    Digital Practice (update 8/7)

I posted this on another forum. First time posting here. Ref was used, not painted over...just, well, referenced. This was a practice with my pen and tablet and colour.

    nice
i like the material indication such as the wood
the figure could use the same amount of detail since its the focus, some cool tones would liven it

I'm a total spaz when it comes to colour.
The face bothers me a lot. It's like, as I got further painting, I became more detail oriented. Where would I add the cool tones?

The wood is brilliant and the hands are very well done. Can we see your reference?, because the face does look odd. The distance between the nose (which seems way too upturned) and the upper lip seems extreme, the lips a tad too full, and the eyes seem a tad skewed. The whites, at least, are far too white.
For the cooler colors, you want to introduce them into the shadows (since the lighting seems nice and warm), but not without also including them elsewhere (like the background).

Very intriguing. That look just draws you in...

It took me a good ten minutes to find this reference picture. hehehe. It got lost in the multitude of zip disks cluttering my desk. Sandra Bullock (or however you spell her name)...I don't like her, I just liked the pose.

To me, her face looks like a monkey. The only saving grace of the face, for me anyhow, is the look of her eye(s). I know they are a bit...slanty, but it makes me think she is up to something. I think if I made her nose longer it would help with the monkey mouth (or maybe not).

Thank you for your comments, it really is helpful.

    update 8/7

I haven't worked on the face. I did try to add some cooler colours, but I don't know if I have achieved that or not. I probably was a bit tame with the idea. Anyhow, I worked the chair some more and I've overworked the hair, so I'm leaving it for now to work on the bottom image.
