Artem's Sketchbook [some nudity]

Hey, thought I'd start me a sketchbook on here. To start this off here is a black and white study. I know it is a bad habit to paint photos but I saw this one and just had to paint it. I thought I would be a good study of movement and a good exercise in working with loose brush strokes. Hi Atem,

I just started a sketchbooks me-self. Just thought I'd say hi. Nice work, the brush you are using really helps define the form. I like how the face and hand stand above the rest of the image with their polish and rendering.

that one is very good and far beyond my skill, wow! I absolutely agree with batty on hands and face, just one remark: I think the hair and the cheek are "too similar", it almost looks like a beard, I assume that's not intended. Apart from that, the brush is also cool. What software is that?

The painting is quite good, the only slight problem i se is the bottm of your girly that lacks shade and the prespective on it seems strange, that's all.

Yes Feil, I see what you're talking about. I guess that's one of the drawbacks from copying a picture. I just painted what I saw in the picture.

Just noticed what you were saying about perspective. The far leg does look a little smaller. Wow...fresh eyes do help.

I have recently taken up watercolors and thought I'd post some stuff I've done recently. Please feel free to leave comments or critiques, as I am just learning this new medium and would love feedback.

The beach paintings are the most recent and I did them on a larger format than my scanner could handle, so I had to scan them in pieces (you can see a line through the middle of some where I erased out the merged lines in photoshop).
The beach painting with the two figures standing on the sand with a building in the distance to the left was done from memory so I later realized some obvious problems with it.

The small painting with the book and the xbox game was a pure gouache sketch I did last year sometime and I just thought I'd throw it in. I was really in the mood to paint that day and I thought that instead of painting something that I had set up, I would just paint something exactly as it was laying in my apartment....can you guess the xbox game?

I included a study I did from a Sargent watercolor. Sargent is really what got me into watercolors and for me he sets the bar.

The other painting is a quick sketch of a wood pile near my parents house. I was really frustrated while painting this because I felt that I wasn't capturing the effect of the light patterns I was seeing but viewing it later I was actually impressed with my efforts.

Finally got a copy of PS last weekend..already in love. PS is such a breath of fresh air after 6 years of frustration with Painter. Here's a quick 35 min sketch of one of Isaak Levitan's landscapes.
