    A cure for laziness...

... Has anyone got one that works for you? I'm a pretty damn lazy person andit affects my life drastically along with my art. So i'm hoping for someone to tell me something that will rid me of this demon

After seeing willy wonka last night and the interesting argument they make about tv... i was thinking of trying to give it up. i think that is the source of most of my laziness instead of writting or drawing I watch tv opr play a video game and escape....though giving up tv for me would be like Tyrone giving up crack...."Is this the 5 o'clock free crack giveaway?!"

See, any show that I really care about watching, I rent the DVDs of and watch it when it's most convenient and time-effecient. I've done that with every anime I've ever watched, Family Guy, and 24. I really don't watch any TV live, except for tennis. As for video games, I derive too much inspiration from them to stop playing them, but I do try not to let them interfere with my artwork.

I've been avoiding video games for the past ... long while.
But lately, I've given in, but not in the sense that I mindlessly slaughter the enemy to reach point B, more to push the game in a different direction. So, in Halo2, I'll play through the level Delta Halo purely to collect vehicles. I have 23 ghosts and two tanks atm

The same applies to HalfLife2, with the process sped up with Garry's Mod.

know what u really want.. this should work otherwise u betray yourself <- this wont work if u are serious with yourself (hope u understand any my spelling is right)

if u wanna draw - u should draw
if u wanna do someting else - do it - then go draw

That you do something else instead of the task at hand does not mean you are lazy, just that your priorities are elsewhere.

If you want to not be lazy, go out and do something be active, run around, dont just sit around, you dont have to be active tooo long, Just enough to wake you up, then go draw.. Turn off all the video game systems, stop playing them, play them lets say once a week, turn off the tv, turn off any other distractions you may have, and draw. If thats the case.

My biggest distraction is the computer, i usually just sit here and come to Conceptart.org, or read something about art on the net... Rather than drawing, but this has cut back alot too. CAuse i know i should be drawing, so i do it. Cause i love it, and i want to do it.

aah yes, pc-games are evil. really hard to limit it once I start, especially during holidays WHEN I COULD ACTUALLY DRAW THE WHOLE DAY....... but I just somehow think "ah I'm in the mood to play some" and start this machine. Well it IS fun, but doesn't make me draw any better. Besides that, sometimes my eyes start hurting after a while and I get a headache and feel tired.

    motivation is key.

because there is nearly no one around to talk about art, let alone to draw with, I have to motivate myself - which ain't that easy sometimes, though generally I REALLY want to draw and paint and learn to do it well because for me art is just IT.
a good help is looking at the fellas whose work I adore. gives me a healthy kick in the butt

The ultimate cure is paycheck + deadlines.
But if you don't get off your lazy asses it's never going to come to that.

Come on CA for 2 minutes and see 16 year olds drawing with the skill on 30 year old art professors.... That'll get you off of your ass. I've come down with a bit of carpal tunnel because I've been getting up and 9 am and drawing until about midnight everyday.
