Just out of curiosity, how will the work be judged. Will there be set criteria to go by?
-Originality
-Technique
-Execution
-Design
-Character/personality
-???
Not sure so I thought I'd ask. I'm just wondering how you judge a piece from a cartoonist who's up against a fantasy artist. Any thoughts?
ummm yeah a summer break for COW was def. a great idea!!!
Hey DS- you ready for all that painting???!
Mainloop- man i must be dyslexic.. cuz i thought you asked how many people are on lsd

How about the first round will be just normal competiton? Like a warmup thing before going up against BIG GUNS!
The topic is also easy enough to judge this way!
All Brawl out in the DOME...then the survivors pair up!
36 winners out of 160 (or how many ever)
You have more than three weeks, I am sure you guys can pull off something decent to try to sqeeze into the selected 36.
Then as DSillustration suggest.
From there Round #2 we'll pair up
2 way = 36
2 way = 18
2 way = 9
3 way = 3
3 way = 1
It will be total of Five round, including round one.
This way we can eliminate the hassale of "NO SHOW"
Also, we can avoid the problem of PAIRing up the BIG BOYS on the first round....and we loose chance of seeing more high calibour art works.
We also avoid long draging...compettiion. Keep it short and exciting!
Good luck boys and girls!

Announcement 1: Blog was listed twice, so coondoggle you're in. No reserves list for you.
Announcement 2: The almighty Imp Head is helping out with the judging. Everybody sit on uncle Imp's lap and tell him what you want for Christmas. I'm pretty certain he has magical powers.
Xia, I like your suggested tournament setup, but I really like the competitive nature of the random placement. And since this is the only round a vast majority of the players will be participating in, I want to make sure they have someone to play off of. I personally think picking 36 entries out of 144 to advance would be a much harder task for the judges then picking a winner out of a 2 or 3 man bout.
nice idea xia, but noo, i want the 1 on 1 action for the first round. this is what has me excited most

maybe the deadlines should shorten as we get into later bouts? a 5 month long t-dome is a bit excessive me thinks
by the time were into teh 3rd bouts maybe they should be like 1-2 week deadlines
it would be a way to include an artists "hunger" (ambition) into the mix of skill sets needed
just an idea

I have devised another 5 round. The first 2 rounds will be 2s, the next 2 rounds will be 3s, and the last round will be 4 man free for all.
2-144
2-72
3-36
3-12
4-4
And I just thought of a new 5 round as I typed this. First round is 2s, second and third round 3s, 4th round 4s, and the last round 2s which would be a 1v1. I do like the idea of a cage match, but I think the final round should be a 1v1, so here we would get 2 4 man cage matches in round 4 and the victors would challenge each other in the final. This would also elimate runners ups etc, basically by the end you would know about what place you are in. Here is how it would play out.
2-144
3-72
3-24
4-8
2-2
I am pretty sure my math is correct on these, but someone else should run through it to make sure.
A 5 month TDome may not be too longm but perhaps the last 2 rounds could be 2 weeks each making it a 4 month long TDome overall. But we do have to figure in the judges taking time to judge pieces. Sometimes it just takes awhile.
yeah, how long is that btw? when did it start? where did the judges disappear?Originally Posted by fungi
i don't like the idea xia, because like cartoonfox, i'm totally excited about the random pairing.

Haha, no shit... personally, I see a long, spaced out commitment like this a good thing. If you make it to the end you will have made 5 outstanding pieces of art that you never would have without the dome. That's reward enough in itself.Originally Posted by fungi
Matt, awesome suggestions. I like how the secong setup escalates in difficulty, making it more chaotic as you progress through the rounds. You rock, I think we're gonna go with that setup. Save us a round at that, too...
I second that!Originally Posted by strych9ine

Ok I like the 2nd one too, I just thought it seemed more fun and the randomness will stay interesting all the way to the 4th round, obviously there would be no randomness in the final round.
woo, awesome mat, the second one works out very nicely, lets go with that one
and strych9ine, huuuury up and get home, i wonna know who im against!! ^-^

I'm sure i can say from everyone we are truly grateful for the time and effort you've put into this!
A big thanks to all the judges who have volunteered too!
You've already made this a legendary event before it has occured!
I would like to extend a thanks to Codenuts and Judges for taking the time to organize this thing...
This should be an epic T-Dome...
Absolutely guys, I'm just as pumped to start this thing as you do. Wouldn't have happened without Xia, Dixon, and the rest of the crew's constant suggestions and help. I really appreciate out judges stepping up to the plate and helping out with what is already promising to be a pretty epic event.
Can't believe there is such a huge turnout, this is great...
Tonight after the brackets are posted, the dome officially begins. All entries are due August 6th, 2005. Get started early you procrastinators out there, don't be caught in the dome without a piece.
im scaredi cant handle the dome!!

i also want to say thanks to guys like marko, android, dan milligan & others who inspire us all with their posts. it's a blast to be going up against you guys but it's even more fun to learn from your work.
let's fire the cannons and spill some blood!! bwahaha... *sharpens pencils*
Damn , I go away for the weekend and miss all the juicy action. Please list me in the reserves.
EL CORO has officially joined on as a judge. You, sir, are the shit. Thanks for helping out bro.
