Get out your fanciest post-apocalyptic Mad Max leather chaps, ladies and germs, we've got a Thunderdome of epic proportions in the works. This time around, it's every man for themselves.
We're going to have ourselves a bracketed tournament. Each round will consist of 1 on 1 battles, and the winners of each respective battle will go on to the next round. Eventually we will whittle our way down to the prize fight: a one on one battle between the winner of each bracket division. Winner of that match is the Last Man Standing... the one contender who took down the masses.
Who's it gonna be then?
The matches for each round except the last will be RANDOMLY CHOSEN from the pool of 144 competitors. In the last two rounds, the battles will be between 3 men, not 2.
Round I: 144 Competitors - 2 man battles
Round II: 72 Competitors - 2 man battles
Round III: 36 Competitors - 2 man battles
Round IV: 18 Competitors - 2 man battles
Round V: 9 Competitors - 3 man battles
Round VI: 3 men enter, one man leaves...

For the first round you'll flex your creature/character design skills. You are free to take this topic in any direction and each pairing of competitors are free to further define their scope between themselves, but don't lose sight of the topic at hand.
Deadline:
You've got one week to join in the fray, as this round determines who will play in every round. Unless we got objections from the lot of you, you'll then have another three weeks after that to complete your masterpieces. Let's make it 11:59pm PST August 6th, 2005.

My bandwidth will commit suicide if I hosted the massive amounts of images expected, so I'll have to ask that you upload your image to your own space and send me the link to your image. You can submit your entries in link form to [email protected] in the yournameVScompetitor'sname_TD.jpg format, with the title of your email yourname's entry. Size: Please keep you images at or smaller than 800x600.
Keep your secret weapon secret: do not post up you WIPs or Finished Pieces before the main T-DOME threads are displayed. The best part about this is seeing all the artwork for the first time side by side, don't rob us of that chance.

RESULTS FOR ROUND 1
First, I just want to thank our extremely talented and generous panel of judges for taking the time to help us out and lend their trained eyes to our hard work. Every judge involved offered their time very generously, and this event wouldn't have happened without those badasses. Round of applause.
All of you put out a tremendous effort and helped this little dome evolve into a pretty amazing thing. A lot of the judges had a difficult time chosing one piece over the other in some cases, so each match could be anybody's game.
For every thread I assigned 3 judges to cast their anonymous votes for the winner of each match... they were not required to give crits as you all should be thankful you had such talented judges looking at your pieces anyway, so I expect to hear absolutely no whining, bitching, or complaining about who won, the competition itself, or the judging. If you lose, take it like a man for christ's sakes and work harder next time.
