mdale: The cloth is probably my favorite part too. The spounge tool comes in so handy when doing textures. Thanks, man.
Update for tonight: Finished the sketch above. This is the main character. Although, when I sketching above, it was originally intended to be the second warrior in the story, but I liked how it turned out and it resemebled the main character in my head...so here it is. (Now I just have to redraw that second warrior over)

Awesome work dude - I really enjoyed looking at the enviros, Im a real fan of exploring lots of ideas for moods and scenes, and you vary them really nicely, lots of variation - but u can always tell its the same.
Great work now post moar.
Andy.
Oh noes, here is the end!![]()
Just flipped through your SB and I'm oh so happy I did - awsome character sketches! You really make them expressive and filled with motion, something I always found hard to achieve. Watch your anatomy though, some of them seem to have very short thighs - remember that the crotch needs some space as well beneath that belt, as well as the thighs. But I do forgive you - the sketches has such amazing personality they are a joy to behold!

DragonSnail : Heheh. Yeah I got watch my anatomy...i've been getting myself into the practice of flipping my sketches over now..i'm amazed at how weird a sketch can look sometimes.
PHATandy: Thanks man. Same here. I'm always attracted to landscapes that are almost just mood...and realistic but abstract. I kind of like it when the viewer can imagine places in the enviroment...where they can pick out little abstract shapes and, in their own mind, figure out what a place really looks like. It's something I'm working towards.
silvestri99: Thanks bud. Don't worry, i'll keeping posting the process shots. I like them too.
koppa: thanks for stopping by...hope you come again.
designboot: :bashful
Here's Anubis. First sketch. And now I'm done for the night...off to go watch Heroes!

excellent concept artwork man, enviorments (i suck at those), orthos and character design.I'm curios to see how anubis will look like finished, looks great so far.
Keep sharing!
ciao
TheGnoll Actually, I'm kind of struggling with the environments, thanks for the kind words though. I dunno. I think with the environments, I alwasy feel that they're not quite realistic, or maybe organic enough, so with that I'm trying harder.
Merlkir Yeah...I love Stargate. I'm being careful though not just to emulate that style. Like for Anubis, I definitely don't want it to look like a guy with a neat helmet. I really want to get cool looking Animorphs.
mdale I'm not sure if this Anubis sketch will get painted. It was just a preliminary one. Don't worry, though, there will be a final painted version soon. I think that this sketch is a nice start, but maybe too cute, or cartoony. I want him to be real as the others.
Jorge Gecov Aw cool. I'll check out your stuff. Welcome aboard to the MoA project. It's very cool.
Bhrazz Thanks man.
designboot Oh. yeah.. hmmm. my browser won't do the smileys sometimes...and I tried to do just a reg. smile one...looks like it changed to bashfull. haha.
Okays guys and gals. I"m going to San Diego Comic Con this year and I'm trying to put together some promotional pieces. I want to print out a sketchbook handout...if you've ever been to the show you see a lot of the artists selling them. Mine will be free, but same basic idea and will include all of my Egypt stuff. Very inspiring SB... makes me wish I could get better faster. I've got along way to go. But I can atleast tell my self everyone starts out as bad as me and with enough practise end up as good as youThink ill check in on this SB alot!
Nyarlathotep: When I had started this sketchbook in 05, hell, even before Sept. of last year, I really didn't practice everyday. I just didn't have the time. And now looking back...it's like YIKES...so yeah, practicing everyday has help so much. It's nice to see the improvement too because it motivates you to continue on.
hurricane: I can see it too. Something happened during the last session. I was having problems saving as a RIFF in painter, the thing kept freezing on me when i would save. After re-painting the last part a few times and having the session bomb, I switched over to save as a EPS, just because that was the only thing that seemed to save fine. I noticed though that it shifted the colors more blue. Once I got the RIFF saving thing back to normal I tried to recalibrate the image back to the original. Maybe I'll take another stab at and get it a little closer. Good eyes. Thanks for the comments
jim b: Thanks Jim. Here's the final Anubis. Well...mostly final...I'm thinking I need to repaint his boots.

I liked you works quite a lot, your drawing style is very dinamic. Oh, btw, I´m supposed to be in the Albesila project too, how do you upload pictures to that forum?

Badaboom: Thanks man. Glad to hear you're doing Albesila too. If you want to upload pics there, you need to upload them to a webserver first...Like Photobucket. Then copy the url in the the reply box. Contact Designboot, though.
Here's a Scarab sketch. In Egyptian mythos, scarabs are symbols of life...or guardians of life. In the underworld, they're supposed to help protect the souls on their way through the underworld until they reach Osiris. Egyptians were usually buried with scarab amulets, which they believed warded off evil spirits and such. In my story I thought it would be interesting to show these giant scarabs roaming the plains of the underworld, protecting lost souls. When the main character first meets up with them, he's in the midst of this huge battle going on around him. At first he's terrified of these giant beasts, but in order to escape the battle around him, he climbs onto one of them and it flys off. In flight he begins to regain himself a little and remembers his mission. What he doesn't realize is that during the flight he's really loosing himself completely to the Underworld...and that's the reason why the scarabs found him in the first place. (I also did a painting of this scene a page back or so)
