    City-scape Test

    Hi everyone,

I am applying for a job as a concept artist and they asked me to do a sketch of a city 100 years in the future. The city is not to be sci-fi or post-apocalyptic. They wanted to see one access to the lower parts of the street. And preferred to see hover cars but they were not neccessary. This is what i have come up with so far. I need your help to point out anythings that i should change. At the moment i'm not sure what more it needs or what needs changing. My tablet is also broken atm so i did this with a mouse

Thank you all for you help.

your perspective is really good. though i feel that more reference could go a long ways in fleshing out this scene and making it truly different from all the other future city scenes we see

are the buildings supposed to be wider at the roof than the base? cause at the moment some of the verticle lines suggest this is the case. if this was unintentional, fix it otherwise it will throw off the remainder of your perspective.

the windows on the cafe (left side) are quite off. look at the top window in relation to the windows below.

oh, and nothing i see suggests futuristic. sorry just my opinion. all the best with the job prospects

thanks guys for the replies. I look at this thing so long sometimes i miss things that are pretty obvious. Guess i'll keep working on it a bit more to see if i can add a bit more flair to it. They gave me three days to finnish the piece and gave pretty vague instructions as far as style or anything they want it to look like. Thanks though fellas for the crits, i'll keep working on it, still got about 2 more days to finnish it if i have to

This is pretty cool. i like the camera angle, too.

My only crit is that everything is happening on the left half of the page, and the right half dosne't have much to look at. Also, it seems kind of dark for the future. Why not put in more street lights and store signs and other light sources?

My suggestion is too push the image to a more extreme vision of the future, it looks too tame, too mundane.

If your applying for a changed as a concept artist give them something more outragous, be creative. If the street was going to be well lit - add tons of signs and halograms etc. Are there people wandering around? What would they be wearing? What type of shops are there? Try making up some brandnames for the shops. Show one of the vehicles up close (showing more than just scenic design). Is there graffitti? Litter? Pollution? Trees? etc.

Push your creativity more, thats what concept artists do.

reflections in windows would really help, take down saturation and add a bit more color variety in the greens for flavor.

I think they actualy want to see how good is you for creating original arcitecture and dynamyc envoriments. Colours are fine, and banded verticals too, but buildings are too simple.

you need atmosphere at the top of the buildings to make them look taller (value perspective). The cafe looks very plain to me. The doors look like painted in the walls. I sugest more contrast in the values to make it look more deep. Need speculars in some borders and glass windows. Grab or create some textures and get things a little more dirty. Good luck man. Keep us posted with the results.
