I have found that this is the hardest angle to draw the hand from. I really got to do more of them.

Ben, cool to see you posting a lot of your work. The line improvement is evident by your EOW. Keep pushing the color work too, the sketching skill is there but coloring isn't as strong. We've gotta learn how to handle values in graphite before anything else. Goodluck man!

heh I was just doing feet studies earlier this week, I'll have to dig those up. I'm quite brain dead at the moment so I'll refrain from attempting to say anything slightly intelligent. Keep drawing

The joys of Cross posting. For EOW #5

Another of the examples of harsh and unusual environment of Terra II are the Fungal tunnels. These have yet to be fully explored due to the poisonous fungus which thrive here. The hazards are too great for a full exploration of the caverns but the medical field believes that here they may find cures to some of the exotic deceases of the planet. here we see the opening to one of the tunnels on the continent state of Verfin.

Hello, bengonzalez. I really like the cover to this book you did, Very impressive embodiment of New Orleans spirit: shrimp, beads, vivid colors, careless attitude. I like how you drew her body, pose and her face with those protruding lips. It's great. So thanks for sharing. EOW is very beautiful too. Colors and varied shapes, lines. So much interest for viewer.

sve thanks for the compliment on the cover of the book but I can't take credit for it. I may have been vague about this but I only did 4 of the illustrations in the book. there were many talented artists who donated their work to the project. The cover was done by Cris Griffin.

and now for an image for the posts. don't want to be bumping too much with out an image. This is an Illustrator file from about 5 years ago.

    Thumbs up

Congratilution, Ben, that's great! Very interesting image, I'm curios what's going on.Did this guy steal the watch or bought it? I can feel there is some story behind it. Well, published illustration! I think you need to mark the event with a huge update on 10 pages.

Sve the image is supposed to illustrate a near human race humanoids. the only distinguishing features are the eyes which are supposed to be golden. The description called for one male and one female figures. They tend to be aloft, the male deep in concentration over the work he is doing while the women tend to be thinkers, philosophers.

Well here are some head studies just for practice.

I really like the sketch you have where you are drawing the planes and sections of the nose. That is a really good way to learn the structure. To really learn faces, I would suggest doing self portraits. After doing a handful, I can always notice significant changes in my drawing. I think most of what I know about faces I have picked up from drawing my own. They can be loose sketches to find the shapes, or long studies to learn all the dips and bulges, they all help a ton.

Lots of effort here, man! Keep it up! It's good to see someone working hard. If you do this more and more you'll see improvment. Stay encouraged! You've got the talent, man. Just keep pushing.

Oh, those stylized portraits ( brown pencil?) from yesterday are beautiful. I enjoy very much looking at those fluid lines.

    Thanks Guys.

Sve, No they are not colorpencils just a quick duotone in photoshop.

well these and the brown ones before them are just a study that I like to do every so often. Just looking at the reff I try to put the lines down without looking at the sketchbook. It's a good gauge on how good the eye to hand coordination is. some cheating involved when I feel my hand stray to far from where it should be. I don't do the whole thing like that but I do the outlines that way and then just go back and fill it with detail.

wow, awesome, dude. . .you've got a great balance of creative work and studies going on here. That last eow in color came out really nice. . . I can definitely tell you're doing the right stuff here. . .the only suggestion I might have would be to add some more work from life to your practice, I think you'll find that combined with construction studies it will really boost your skill.
