    bengonzalez's Sketchbook

Well I will start this off with something that I did a few months ago and an new sketch from my practice at copying/learning from the masters.

My attempt and Manga more specifically an RPG character of mine from Exalted.

And this is a Copy of a detail from one of El Greco's paintings.

start forcing yourself to do quick 2 minute studies over and over. first you have to learn the emotion and feel behind what you are drawing, once you have that THEN you can render..

keep it up though, you'll only get better

Thanks for the comment and yes I have to work on gestures. lets see if I can do some for next time. anyway all i had time for today were these two. The fist one is me revisiting my favorite character pose I used in High.

This one is a preliminary sketch for a something I got swiming in my head. just trying to workout a perspective to use. don't have it there yet.

Skull drawings sound like a good Idea. Plus if I ever have to do Ghostrider I'll have it down.

Well here are more from my study of the Bridgman Book.

Still got to get to the 2 min Sketches. They are tough cause i tend to tighten the drawing up very early on. Maybe tomorrow Ill do some of the kids.

some very nice pieces here, I really like how you've done the legs on the character with the butterfly behind her. You should try and colour some of these they'd look great (that's just my opinion) good job, post more please

    Good stuff.

I agree about the quick 2 minute poses... try 1,2,5, and 10 minute sketches to really get down the foundations and structure of what you need to have before you can render it. Good that you're studying Bridgman, there's so much to learn from him. When you're doing the exercises and studies, don't just copy them but analyze them, or draw them mirrored over so you brain has to really work at it to understand what you're doing. Keep working hard!

Ok thanks for the C+C. No Skull work yet but did manage to do a few gesture sketches. Here is a page. Man, kids just never stop moving.

And this is the WIP of "As I walk..." The figures left hand (our right side) is still bothering me. I just can't seem to work out that side. The hand may need to be straighter and not so bent.

I have fond that I have trouble drawing black people convincingly so I opened up a magazine and just laid down the pencil on the sketchbook and tried to draw with out lifting it up for the first one.

This one is another sketch from a mag. Working on black facial features. May be some nose studies will be next.

dashi thanks for stopping by. Comments are always appreciated. I will pay more attention to the line quality it seems to be one of my downfalls. Can't draw a strait line to save my life.

Here is another shading study. Working on this tuff to see what approach I like best.
