nice work with the pen and ink sketches, you're getting quite good at shading along the contour of the figure.

for the most part it seems like you are doing heavily abstract and/or heavily stylized work, and some of it is really cool. do you intend to do mostly editorial illustration or concept art also? if you want to do concept art, it would be a good idea to do some more representational images that show off concept.

notspecialist- thanks for your compliments! I really don't have a favorite preference in the illustration realm (for me concept art is part of illustration).. i'd really love to do stuff which will be portrayed in any media, and if it has more public viewing it, even better!

Here are some character design teasers for an animation project I'm currently involved in here in my country- hopefully some of these designs will be accepted towards the animation phase: the first one is an ink sketch scanned in and colored in photoshop, the other two are entirely digital: from painter to photoshop. two different styles, two different characters.

Hey, Gringo, thx for commenting on my SB.

I like the last character the best, it looks and feels better than the angel, in terms of color, the nuances that break the symmetry, as well as anatomically.
The nose ring is the only thing that bothers me, it sort of blends with the mouth.

With the angel, I think the neck is too long, the wings at an uncomfortable angle/position, and with the simian features of the face.

The inks are very "artsy" but some features are lost, in all the lines (the soldier's hands for example)

    Ulver - thanks man!
Sketch - thanks for your comment man! it's nice to hear that people think my style is forming, when i really don't activley search or practice it! it's make me glad to see people appreciate what i do.
Hamsta - thanks for your suggestions and tips bro.

now for some work, here are some traditional painting stuff I have been doing in the past two months.. (beware the quality of the photos )

the first is the latest one, from sunday: an oil painting, it's the basis for an illustration that I'm thinking of doing about justice. I need it to dry so I can scan it (it's letter sized).

the next is a portrait of my cousin, part of a series of family portraits i'm making. It's a venture into grayscale, high contrast, realistic portrait. I like how it turned out. It's an acrylic, and it must measure something like 50 cm x 40cm

The next is a self portrait where I tried to make an experiment in deconstructing the forms of my face (but retaining the overall likeness of my face). i think i kinda failed in the retaining part, but nonetheless, i like result. It's the same size as the portrait of my cousin. This one is the oldest of the bunch, 2 months old or so.

Finally here comes my self portrait, in the same style as my cousin. I made this before my cousins portrait, and is the first of the series of family portraits I'm currently working on. It's a bit bigger than my cousins portrait, like 70x40cm

    mirrorhead & anti-bullfighting deluxe

    28chelseaslater - thanks bro!
Darktwin - yeah man it's going to be one hell of a fight! all the best for you bro!
    lennon - gracias hermano!

heya fellas a los años... well here is my latest tiny update: 1 is one of those mirror faced bastards (again), he's quite a kick assing guy don't you think? doind this made me realize how much I suck a t anatomy! the next one is an anti-bullfighting poster I did (during the bullfighting celebrations of my city). I posted a couple of big ass posters up near the bull-fighting ring, and smaller ones in the neighborhood beside it. Only 1 small one remains... I'll put up the pictures of me pasting them up once I get them...

    later people...

new stuff! just an excercies i've done today... i wanted to do a phoenix... first is the black & white, then my coloring attempt... i like both, but i like the b&w version better.

I have finally arrived. Sorry for the lack of updates... work has gotten to me. I have updated my blog frequently, and I also built & uploaded my new website/portfolio (check it out at www.franciscogalarraga.com) but CA deserves the same justice so I'm sorry for not posting sooner. Now to the reply your kindness:

    - ped454 : thanks man. right now i'm in a project that involves doind different charaacters & poses. I hope I can show it to you once the "NDA" gets "terminated".
    - ICH : thanks bro. I'm glad you love that piece, I just hope you'll start liking other stuff I do in the future!
    - Jonish : Thanks man, you should check out PrometheusANJ's coloring tuts: very simple & good.
    - Gustavo Desimone : Gracias hermano!
    - bakatron : that comparison really made a tear come out from my eye: much thanks bro!... what an honor.
    - Sketch : thanks man, really kind of you to say that. I'm glad you liked the bull a lot... i really didn't think the CA community (at least people who have seen it in this SB) would recieve it well, since it's more of a poster than concept art.
    - Mr Mu : thanks bro!

Here's some of the best I have done recentley. Hopefully next week I'll put some actual real life sketches from my first moleskine (nice little pad).
    1) My LMS3 round 1 entry. Didn't pass to the next one though Prostate SUnrise did.
2-3)A pair of faces of dead people. Quickies, without ref, using photoshop.
4-5-6)More quickies.. without ref. Quick coloring.
    7) A "tribute", to my GF. Te amo nena!
