Awesome ashrumm! Looks real good. My only suggestion would be to add the white in the background as well, rather than just that grey. I think it would really pop the figure.

Funny how we all did sargent studies. Thanks for posting in my SB, i'll unveil my final piece tomorrow!

It is quite nice! The figure is really good and I think that you should draw the background too. It is a shame to leave it unfinished like that.

As for the update too many of you guys wanted me to finish the painting as painful as it was and it was literally painful due to my hangover i finished it.

woah, looking GREAT, ash! i love it! damn, i better get back to work...

oh, just one thing i "discovered" for myself and you could maybe use: after every step/stage i check the levels of my painting. that way i see where i messed up contrast-wise. with all the color-picking and blending sometimes (at least in my paintings) the colors tend to get a little muddy. yours are looking fine, but maybe you can use this little tip anyway...

Hi, thanks for commenting in my thread. Seeing your progression over this SB was impressive, that scuplture is great, and I dig those anatomy studies. I didn't read everyones comments in here, so I'm likely just repeating someone else by saying this, but I think I would perhaps suggest working on your eyes, they are still looking a little off in proportion, and can come across a little flat. Also, your shading improved over the course of all this work, but I still find it to be a bit confusing in a lot of the drawings, I can't tell where the light source is coming from. Keep drawing!

Now that's what I'm talking about! That background really pushes the figure and gives a sense of space. Background's can be very important, and you don't even have to do that much. I love the little lantern too. Great job ashrumm!

Good show Ash, you've done as much as you could do to the best of your ability and that's all that should be expected. Bet you learnt heaps and will be better prepared for the next one. I haven't been posting much in the last week or so i've been doing much reading on various things than i recently been reading perspective books because i've never drawn environments. I only have some quick thumbnails i'm learning to start with smaller thumbnails before getting into intricate details. Very quick but fun

the environment sketches show pretty good depth. mostly because of their perspective. what would help them is the shading and values to suggest atmospheric perspective and make certain objects pop out and others recede.
im no expert but thats my take.

hey ash! hope you had a great birthday. those enviros are looking great - it's pretty tough to start quick without getting too much detail in, isn't it? but you're doing great. i really like that you're taking on new challenges. love the skyscraper-building on your third page and the more elaborate ones on the last. i guess, markers would be really good for you now. it's a lot of fun and you get a sense of depht really quick by using different values of grey. woah, i can't wait to see your characters placed into completed enviros!

Ham-e:: oh i read one book on perspective titiled Perspective Made Easyby Ernest R. Norling. Its a Dover book that covers the basics of perspective very quick read lots of helpful illustrations.

Stine:: Yes my birthday was great Stine and yes i have started using markers I should be posting those soon. And yes i'm trying to absorb as much as i can.

Taxman:: Thanks for your comments and didn't have any beer this time had some wine though but not too much.

and i'm pretty sure it will help fine tune my anatomy. I took off the arm to do some arm studies very cool to have what you are drawing right in your hands.
In any event here are some of the arm stuides i started with.

I did them all very quickly trying to build up a quantity of drawings for memory exercises some of them i did from memory without reference at all.

So you'll be back today? Hmmm I better get some of my shit together soon. Any way it's great that you're doing some perspective. Man I've always wanted a model like that for refference. Actually I'd preffer a human skeleton. Those studies are kewl, commiting more to memory will help your confidence when copying and stuying from life or ref (now I'm confused as to whether the model you have is refference or life since it's a real object if you know what I mean? I guess you could say life like still life.) Now I'm off to rob some people so I can afford one. Can't wait for your update seeya bro.
