Stine:: you are so right about skin tones when you actually look at the color you are using, lets say for a highlight its can be quite suprising I do agree. I also fixed the lower eye it has a better shape at the lower lid. Thanks for the crits.

Ham-e:: Thanks for visiting again Ham-e and I followed your advice to clean up the spill over.

Ivan R.:: Thanks for your comments Ivan i took your advice and toned down the eye lashes a bit, they are not perfect but they will have to suffise time to move on.

Dile:: Thanks bro, you are a great inspiration for us all.

Nixon:: Thanks for hopping over to my sketchbook man, no problem for the encouragement your work speaks for itself. I'll be sure to pop over from time to time again thank you for the encouragement i'm just trying to improve like everyone else.

Okay here is the final on this painting i've been working on I know i can do a bit more but to be honest i'm pretty sick of working on this thing. I'm ready to move on to other things. Thanks everyone for your crits and comments you guys are helping me improve at a very rapid rate thanks alot.

I love the sculptures you put up on page three. And that Warhammer 40k space marine? I couldn't stop looking at it man. Great work. Good work on these elven portaits as well. the eye on the last one dosen't seem like it fits. Something just isn't right about it.

Ham-e:: Thank you for all of your support and help Ham-e.

Stine:: And i already answered your question on your thread and yes i'll answer it again i'll be working from reference for a while with the painting mixed with some of my own personal stuff.

Sepulverture:: Thanks for visiting my sketchbook i really appreciate your visit and you are right the iris isn't centered correctly on the orbit but thats okay i'm still learning, but good eye.

Liam C.:: Thanks for visiting my sketchbook!! it excites me to hear good stuff from someone who is as hardworking and talented as you are. Thanks again!

Here is an update its been too long since i did any anatomy studies i've been telling everyone else to do them i guess its time i take my own advice. Mostly back stuff i've never really drawn the back so i'm going to be at if for a while.
All of these back studies are from Barcsay i'll mix it up with some Mentler studies a bit later.

Hey Ash gettin busy with the back studies I see. One thing you might want to watch out is your rendering with the white highlights. You render your highlights a bit too close where youve put down tonal values. Most of the time your highlights should be surrounded bythe midtones in this case the brown paper and not mixed with your darker tones. That's it for now. By thr way give me/us another asignment like the ears I'm kind of puting off anatomy studies at the moment, if it's ok with you. Laters bro.

Ivan:: Thanks man i'm glad you like the back_studies, i'm simply putting in work.

Stine:: Thank you Stine you are a great inspiration for me so thank you!!

Matt Smith:: Thanks for dropping by Matt and thanks for your comments

Nii:: Yeah you are right i planned on the brown being the midtone but i got caught up rendering the backs a bit to much and then
when it was time to add the highlights i ended up with too much contrast. Good eye And yes i will have something coming your way soon
    thanks for reminding me.

Heartbeat:: Thanks for stopping by and yes i am enjoying pretty much every aspect of this sight and it motivates me even more so yeah i draw because i love it.
    Thanks for stopping in.

Here is what i'm working on right now a master study from John Singer Sargent.
The painting i'm referencing is titiled Fummee d'Ambre Gris. Its about time i get consistent with digital painting what better way to get started with actual bad ass painters.
Here is the painting i'm referencing

    Here is my WIP:

I think i'm a little over my head but nonetheless i'm having fun!
I'm gonna try and finish this piece tonight

Good to see you're getting ambitious with your master study looking good so far. Just a suggesion if you're not too far into it to turn back otherwise ignore this, try blocking in more of the colour over a sketch, it could help. Keep working on it glad you having fun with it, bye for now Ash.

HAAAAH! you're working on sargent, too! very, very cool! i started a master study of one of his works yesterday... what a cool coincidence (spelling?!). but i concentrate on the face (i'm such a chicken), because drapery is sooo hard to do.

sargent really IS a bad ass painter, you're right. but you can't aim high enought (hey, i started with rembrandt, how pretentious is THAT?). but you'll learn a ton, even if it won't work out. but i don't think so, looking good to me! but i think nii has a point. i'm still trying to figure out how to achieve that painterly look and it all comes down to not using an extremely low opacity. so i always stay at 30% minimum and start with 60 %, sometimes even higher... it helps keeping the colors sort of "crisp". hmmm, dunno whether that's plausible, but anyway: you're doing great! ooooh, i'm so excited you guys all do master studies now! we should open a "digital museum" after that!

    see you! cheers,

    stine

The anatomy studies are very nice...on the master copy. think in terms of big shapes are first. keep it simple. I think you are already getting too complicated and everything is real messy and muddy.

nice back studies from barcsay. i feel youre getting a little too seduced by the detailes though hehe and that you should consider light and shadow on the torso mass as a whole, considering the plan breaks of the rib cage and so on...i feel that works better sometimes, altho i guess youre lmited by the artist youre studying.

Nii:: Yeah, actually that is what i did i lost the sketch after laying in the color my problem was after I multiplied my sketch layer i turned to opacity down too far and it was lost after my initial base paint.

Stine:: Hey Stine that is a coincidence I cannot believe we are both doing Sargent, I may take you up on that gallery idea. and thanks for the tips on opacity lvls i too found out things were too muddy if i started with too low of an opacity.

Smitherines:: i'm glad you like the back studies as for the painting i took your advice went back and blocked in most of it in simple shapes. Thanks for the advice .

Mull77::update on its way!! Thanks for stopping by

Ham-e:: I wish the first one was mine, lol. Thanks for stopping by

Rodrigo:: Yeah, i was limited i drew everything that was present from the masters drawing. So yeah good advice though. Thanks for stopping in.

Qxzi:: Thank you for your comments, they are greatly appreciated

Dile:: Thanks for stopping in Dile, we'll talk via skype sometime soon hopefully.

I finally finished Sargents Fumee D'Ambre Gris And guess what ladies and gentlemen it kicked the shit out of me. There quite a few problems with it skin tone is off among various other things I know all of you will pick out. I'm semi-pleased with it. Mainly due to it being my second digital painting. The key is i learned alot from it!! Photoshop can be a pain when it comes to learning from master painters.

p.s.: isn't that great that 3 of us did sargent studies the same day?
