Looking at the goblins, I can definetly see improvement from your first pictures. One thing you might want to consider is when shading, make the strokes in the direction of the plane, just for the sake of consistency if nothing else since I can see you did that on parts of the goblins, while some areas are looking flatter(the foreheads being an example) because all the strokes are in the same direction.

    Nice work so far.

    great work

    looking amazing.

so if a light is one and a dark is ten
then spend some time with one of the new ones.
if the grey is a 5 then as it moves to a ten it can not be a 5.
where are ur 7 or 8 value.
if a 5 grey beside a white were is ur 2 or 3 value.
if u dont need or see one fine but i see areas were u do need to gradate
    some more.

    cool stuff.

    Throwin' Bones !!!!!

Moving in the right direction ~~~ don't spend so much time rendering at this point ~~~ do the basic 10,000 drawings everyone has to do to get started then worry about rendering.

You need to separate mass conception (form) from rendering (shading)
It is all about the form ~ you need to understand the form before the rendering will make very much sense ~ then you need to master value before color will make any sense ~ put your foot in each footstep until you it fills it!

It is ok to shade and add color ~~~ just don't spend all your time with it at this point!

The really good thing I see here is that these dudes have personality which is far more important that rendering

    Thanks guys!

Cyrus:: I will strongly consider that on my next go around at a portrait or anything. I don't know why i like to shade in the same direction even if there are different planes. But good point, you see i learn something new everyday.

Darrell Bowman:: I finally got some good pencils before i was only using a mechanical pencil it sucks when it comes to rendering and value, So there should be some improvements in some of my renderings in the future.

Mentler:: I couldn't agree more, the only thing i need to be doing at this point is producing thousands of drawings. I have problems with getting to bogged down, even in some of my warm up sketches which overall holds me back when creating much needed new work. I definitely do need to work on my rendering but right now i'm trying to improve on the actual proportions.

I should have some more stuff up tonight i've got to head to work, thank you guys for your advice and suggestions, sorry i haven't posted in a while i've got this new job and i'm trying to get adjusted. Take care everyone. Thanks guys

Hey.... I thought I would check in and see what you're up to. Nice stuff you've got going so far. I can see great improvement since the first post. Your rendering is getting better. That Torso study ( I know I'm a bit behind) is awesome. Great rendering done on the arm. Later...

Here is a sketch that was conjured up after viewing movie Vanity Fair. On another note i need to do far more sketches before i get too heavily into shading so for a while the only thing i'll be posting are sketches.

Hey. Thanks for posting in my sketchbook.
You have done good job so far. For example your shading has improved. However some necks seem a bit too long.
I like those goblin portraits. There is some Yoda look influence in them .
    Keep it up.

I really love your progress so far, in this last piece everything is great, but I would focus on the upper eyelids a bit more, he looks a bit wide eyed, but it does add uniqeness to the character. Great stuff

I worked on all three of these today, I guess i approached these as loosening up excercises, not my style, I guess i'm trying new things especially with the value in shading tell me what you guys think.

Its been a while since i last updated, I'm finally back on conceptart, i guess i've been completely lazy on posting work on the site. Here are a few random sketches i've done in the last few weeks. I'm improved a little, I guess i'm trying to take it day by day. You know draw a little here draw a little there.

Here are a few more sketches I completed a little bit ago, I've really fallen in love with the blue cole erase pencil. I guess my next goal is to start fiddling around with my tablet and I am also looking forward to doing some watercolor.
Please, critiques are welcome let me know what you guys and gals think.

Here is some more stuff I did most of it portrait stuff but enjoy. The one thing i will say about these portraits is my eyes are atrocious. I'm going to start doing some portraits of my girlfriend to measure my progress from this point. All of the portraits are from live models except for the last one that was from the top of my head. I think i'm gonna try to do more of those.

    Nice art Dude,
very cool Ideas and designs...I really like your fantasy characters!
I would recommend (If I may of course ^_^) to try to imitate Bruce Timm, not for your style, but to get the basic shapes work together.
Before you start rendering, simplify everything, then you'll know where to focus,
your drawings are really nice, but sometime just a bit off...nothing big but still..
hey who am I to talk right...hehe
    Have a good one!

    and keep it up!!

Jiek:: Thanks for the advice you are right my anatomy in many of my characters is a bit skewed, and i did go look at some of bruce Tims work and will start doing some roughs of his basic building block method. Your criticism is greatly appreciated thanks. I really appreciate honesty, how else will i get better!!!!

JeroArt:: Thanks man i really appreciate your comments.

Here is some new stuff i was working on most of it are portraits i'm jumping around trying to get a feel for a bit of everything.

    quick rough

    another portrait

This is a refurbished drawing of the on i did at the top of this page i wanted to see how i would draw this with my slight improved skills.

This was another Black Chalk drawing by Hans Bellmer

Hey man nice work so far. I'd say try using graphite instead of charcoal for a while with those portraits, and learn to control line weight because the lines you use to outline the profiles of the faces are way too dark. It's all about building up the shapes with really light lines first so you aren't stuck with really dark lines that you wanna move later on.

Very nice potraits you got going here, my favorite one will have to be the first one of the three. She has a bit more expression or feeling to her. They're all really nice, keep up the good work.

Yes, definately move on to some other than the profile views. They are hardly very useful because they don't describe the form all too well and are quite rare to happen in daily life (I spent a day observing if I would see a face at a full profile... didn't happen once! The heads were always turned at least just a bit from a full profile.) and so, I find, look a bit strange in drawings.
Not saying that profiles shouldn't be studied at all, just that other views are usually more interesting.

Here some stuff i've been sketching lately i've been drawing i'm pretty damn lazy about posting but everyone here inspires me to draw and post. I'm gonna do a better job about being apart of the community. So to everyone who checks out my sketchbook thanks.

    crappy self portrait

A better self portrait i like this one a bit better

I'm not sure what this is i was just doodling elf noble and a face of some sort

a couple of heads i need to practice more of everything but right now i like drawing heads for some reason. I guess we all go through phases.

Experimenting with random stuff this is some victorian stuff, i'm actually doing a sketchbook project for one of my classes this is one of the themes i will use.

This is some more practice with heads i'm trying to create a bit of realism in some of my drawings. Its supposed to look like me in all honesty it doesn't but this was fun drawing.

just a lose and very quick sketch i need plenty more of these mainly due to the fact i spend too much time on any given drawing.
