Y'all remember this one from before... I'm actually ashamed to have shared it when I did.. haha
    Before:

After (picture doesn't show all of the colors I actually used.. many many layers):

Experiment.. used some colored pencils I didn't really care for. I'm going to go over it with pastels.

    2 Updates in 1 day??? *#(&@$(*!!!!

Photo ref used.. doesn't look like the person so I won't say who, but I really wanted to focus on the "rendering" .. I'm really bad at shading, and wanted to try a different way.. I like it a lot better than what I'm used to! not done yet.. will post finished in a couple days.

    c/c always welcome.

Thanks for dropping by my thread. I really like the simplicity of your portraits you consistently captured the likeness of all these people. try to mess around with coloring more. keep up the good work.

On the last one the eyes look a bit too flat. Not sure if its just me though. Good work on the palm tree in the bathroom. I thought of drawing a pixelated cow in my bathroom once.. sitting on the toilet.. staring at a vaguely cowish shape Your apartment should reflect your art.. So, well, you go girl!

Hey, I really like the second posting on 9-30. The rendering is a huge improvement. I would do some more ref pieces to get the rendering down. Choose black and white photos with nice contrasting light to get some great shadows. Is the last post one of your friends? Nice work, the red outline brings out the b&w really well. Keep them coming. Later!

    Hey Cobi girl!
You did a really nice job on the graphite portrait rendering. Since this is something I have a little more experience in than some other types, I can actually toss an intelligent crit your way. Her head is only slightly pointed to one side, but her left eye is a bit smaller than her right. The amount of turn of her head won’t account for that much difference. When shading (rendering), unless you have high contrast areas of light and dark, you usually won’t see a stark line between a lighter and darker spot. I can see you have some start edges on the shadows, especially on her cheeks and forehead. Try to smooth that out a bit so that you have a transition from light to dark, even if it is a quick transition. I think that you could use some shadow on the curve of her left arm, considering the light source. Also, something is a little strange with her hair on her right side. Those really straight lines may be some sort of hair thingy, but if they aren’t they don’t look like hair strands.

All in all though, this is a great attempt on graphite rendering in this detail. Keep it up.

Another thing, the girl with the tank and the red background. That looks great except for one thing. I think that you have her right arm across her stomach. I think it should be a higher value because the consistent color with her boobs make it look like she has this big stomach roll.

Whatever you do, don't look at my Sketchbook and Painting Thread!

Cami-Hey thanks for stopping by mine, too! I love color, I'll try to do a bit more

Talmir-Yeah the last one (with the pink around it) was of one of my friends.. she's part asian.. I didn't want to mess them up too much. a cow... HA! that's too funny. Though I doubt it'd be a mirror-reflection.

Dark-Hey bud! I tried really hard on the shading.. I'm not done with that one yet, tho, it should be better!!! I have a feeling I'll be on ref's for quite some time just learning and re learning.

Hylandr-Hola, thx for the advice on the shading.. That one's not finished yet, but I'll definitely take your advice when I do finish it. On the 2nd one, her right arm isn't going across her stomach. She actually does have a little buddha belly, though not as big as the picture shows, it's probably the angle that makes it look bigger.

    Mallock-thanks for stopping by !

Fat- Hey thx for another look! I'll definitely try to keep perspective in mind. I love that damn show!

B-Man- Helllllloooooo!!!! Did you draw me a bear yet?! Thanks for wanting to see more stuff.. I'm working really hard on rendering and lines to make them more realistic. I've gotten a lot faster, too. What would have taken me 5 hours now takes me 1!

Seth- THanks very much for the advice and for looking! I don't have a scanner and actually don't have a "real" digital camera.. I've been using my old camera phone for every picture you see on here. It doesn't have a flash but the pictures automatically have a hazi-ness to them. I'm saving for a real digicam. Wish me luck!

I decided to blend the pencil on this one...I think it looks better. I also made her nose a little smaller.

My grandma was in town (from Michigan) for my brothers wedding and she watched me draw the picture above... I guess she really liked it and wanted me to draw one of her..

This is my fiance, Jimmy. He doesn't look that mad all the time :p

    Hey Cobi girl,
I like the blended pic of your friend better than the first. It has smoother tone that way. Grama looks good and I know how much you like color, but the green behind her is distracting me from the focus of the portrait, Grama. If it were me, I would have colored her iris' whatever color they are and use that as a background. It would add balance to the pic. It is off balance a bit now.

Your man pic looks good. Same as with grama though. Also, keep the proportions in mind so that the shape of the head isn't out of proportion. His head looks a bit top heavy at the moment. Is he a smart guy? Lots of brains???

Hey!! I'm glad to see you still updating. You're not posting as much lately I really like this last post. Resevoir Dogs ran into my mind when I saw this. Has a nice Noir type of feel to it. I like your use of darks in this piece. I hope all is well with you and that we see some more work posted Later!

    Hey Kid,
I like the abstraction. I thought you were going to change the colors, but I guess going greyscale is a change of colors from the original. I really like what you did with this. It'll look great above you couch.

Hey, you got artistic skills. I like your portraits.

It is the same for me, used to draw in high school and stuff, and I just picked it back couple of weeks ago, digging more into anatomy studies and stuff.

Cobi, nice collection of work you've amassed here. The last piece in black and whites interesting, very clean. It looks like it was done in stencil even though it wasn't. Keep working on the portraits too, there's improvement but the faces still look a bit flat. Keep up the good work!

an art show? well congrats for that!

hey, i had to laugh seeing the palm-tree, yeah the first was really seemed kinda ugly (sry) but the second one really makes up for it, really nice. good to see, your rather doing a lot of traditional stuff. i often feel bad, because i am lazy and just stay where i am at (computer desk) and draw or paint digital, intaed of truning around to the second desk and get out the brushes and pencils and stuff.

try to study more intensively what light and shadow does to shapes and forms (planes). i'd also recommend try to start hatching or loosening up with your lines a bit. well, it might be personal preference, but i think that your style would become even more appealing with more crispness, loosness or epressional lines. on't get me wrong, i just think it is a bit fluffy and smooth the wy you shade it, atm.

    keep it up!

Well, my art show went a lot better than I thought it would. I was sick all day because I was so nervous. I wasn't ready yet but I was asked to do it so I thought I'd jump on it. There was a huge turnout and lots of praise. I sold 6 of 10 and a few inquiries on the other 4. All in all, I'd say it was a success.
Next time I will be a bit more prepared. ha

Unfortunately, I did not get pictures of some of my recent stuff which will still be on display until Feb 8th. Here's one that I managed to snap on my cell phone before it broke.

A better one will come next month after I finish moving.. My fiance and I are finally seperating from the evil roomies!!

    Hey Cobi,
I'm glad to hear that your show went well. 6 out of 10 sold. That is really good. This is a reallt nice portrait you just posted. It is kinda hard to see the detail, obviously because a picture phone doesn't have great resolution. Congradulations!
