Here are some more figures done with a touch of water color, I took a few water color classes a few years back and I really like it. I'm going to get a water color sketchbook soon so I won't have to deal with the paper crinkling up like it is. but in th mean time here they are.




I would have dropped a few washes but I already did the other side of the page.

I also throughlyenoyed your hand studies (especially the outer contours), your icons contours and the nude belly/torso study in pencil on the first page of the female leaning back.

I love your figures, they're very lively and solid. It looks like you've improved quite a bit from the first post. (I looked back and it's been nearly a year ago though, you need to post more! ) Your lines look a lot more confident and less sketchy. I'm a big fan of the blue pencil too! I like your contrast too lately, at the start of the sketchbook it looks like you were doing everything too dark, almost muddy, but now it's quite the opposite with the latest stuff, everything has plenty of light and is rendered more carefully.

How are you studying anatomy? Books/classes? It looks great!!

The outline on the first one shows a lot of improvement. In my opinion, though, the breasts and hips are not shaped quite properly. the hips should show more curve outwards to accentuate and suggest the weight of the pose and the breasts look as though they are placed too low and misshapen.

As well, the rib cage area is slightly off and the fold or crease in the skin around the waist on the right hand side especially is too developed and looks plastic.

Great contour once again though, I especially like the shoulders and neck area. Your work is vastly improving.

EDIT: Also, the legs are a bit out of proportion (long, unless you were going for some exaggerated effect), and that belly botton is huuuuuuge! hahah. I could make that a habitat for a koi fish.

deselect: Thanks man for taking the time to crit my work, very much appreciated, you have some very solid points, the first one I struggled with and your right it doesn't look right. yeah the brest don't look like they're effected by gravity at all. And about the legs, yeah I tend to draw legs long. I'm in a figure scuplting class right now and the legs of my clay model are a little long. I guess I like the exaggerated long legs. Man deeply appreciated.

Here is a little master study I did from the book "Master Class in Figure drawing" by Robert Beverly Hale. The work is Head of a Man, Leonardo Da Vinci. For the amount of time I put into it I'm please. I drew it the other day and shaded it today. In all I think it took about 2 hours. here it is

nice studies. are you using references when you are doing your concept work? i noticed that the studies look a little more polished when it comes to proportions and was wondering about that. other than that there is some nice work in here. i like your cross hatching abilities.

That study looks pretty good, a major improvement from the first few updates.

I am not sure if you want any more critiques or not, but a I could point out a few very simple tips that would greatly improve your piece.

One would be to not define hair so much with contours, even if it is a study from a bust, try to shape the hair using the same shading techniques as the rest of the piece so it looks more even and finished.

Another tip would be to build upon your shading a bit more (which is coming along great, by the way) by using more pressure for darker regions. Right now, the shading is mostly one tone of pressure which makes it appear much less three dimensional and have much less depth.

You could simply overwork this exact peice with these tips and reupload. I would love to see the improvements!

i was accumulating a few things to say that you might work on from the beginning of the SB, but you seem to have resolved nearly all of those problems already!

one that still kind of seems relevant is that you could consider doing some studies of face planes.... know what i mean? thats something i haven't even touched so i don't know how useful it could be BUT.... on some of your faces the features drift around a bit, if you studied the basic structure of the face some more you might be able to get a solid foundation of the face to build the features up on....? make any sense?

anyway, i just also have to point out how beautiful this piece is..... love it


also keep up the anatomy studies, as i'mm sure you've already realized they are helping your drawings from imagination A LOT

Well, its been a little while since I've updated, I feel like shit for not updating sooner. I have been drawing, but truthfully not nearly enough. I have no excuses that will suffice. I owe a lot of my inspiration to draw from you guys. Thanks again

Well since I last posted I actually picked up the pen, and let me tell you its been a battle, but I'm getting the hang of it I think. I've been drawing from life by going to workshops and such at the school I attend. And after drawing with pen, I learned my line quality isn't that great, but I'm going to keep at it.

I've also found another love, and thats sculpture, I'm in this figure sculpture class and its amazing. building the form of a model from 3d space, it really helps the progession of anatomy, alot. I'll have to post some of my sculpture pics so you everyone can see. anyways here are the some of drawings, I'll be posting later on today after my sculpture class.

Maybe make less line. Not that its ugly like this, but it would help you getting good lines at the beginning.
