    Women's Gymnastic's

The new chapter of Alpha Shade has started. New characters, new world... it starts off with Laura being part of a college Women's Gymnastics team before a meet.

One of the major differences between this chapter and last is how we draw the hair. Instead of using black outlines we're going for a softer look, using slightly darker hair color for outlines.

If anyone's going to Anime Centeral in Chicago next weekend, stop by our booth and say HI. The same goes for Dallas at A-kon in June.

How strange... I like the depth of the panels, but in my opinion you should work a bit more on the faces, there is some kind of "naivete" there, as if you started drawing them before having developed a personal approach to the matter...

Hope you'll understand my english, some advices would need a better knowledge of your language.

Good lines! Some of the backgrounds though look, I'm not sure how to put it.. insincere? They just don't seem to flow well with the rest of the art..

The first panel is so real, it's almost like a photo. I'm a bit confused with the plot since I didn't read your other pages yet. Somehow the red haired girl doesn't look like a teenager to me.

on the web site it looks like the pages are out of order for the last two... here you show the parking lot picture first and at the website it shows that one second...

Carnifex, I was getting the vibe that the blonde in these pages is the bird rider, but I can't say for sure.

These are the last pages of the scene before we move on. I like how the middle frame in 94 turned out.

    not sure?

OK from an art stand point there are a couple of things that people have already said that I wont reiderate, but on the other side of it.... I was a gymnast and I spent three years on US national team and now I coach at a pretty high level... why are the girls wearing swim suits? At any level girls arn't alowed to where open back leo's to compete in, and the vault dosn't look like that anymore... they stopped useing that kind of vault like 5 years ago at least...I guess Im just saying you need to do a little research on the sport and the athlete's. but the work looks good to me! I look forward to the next one!

We did do some research on Gymnasts before we started. Most of the pictures we found of the vault looked like the older model so we went with that and the open back was based on cuteness, rather than realism. If you've any good research sites, post them please .

In the last page, I wanted to pull out a bit to show the computer set up and introduce the two new characters. Doing a floor plan of the first floor of the house was very helpful.

One more page and we'll hit 100. The next page also introduces the last of the "Six friends". This page is almost all done in flash. The only Photoshop element is the exhaust of the car in the last frame. Creating maps of both the inside and outside of the house was very helpful.

We've finally made it to 100 pages. Also page 100 introducted the last of the "Six Friends". I think there are some cool lighting effects in these pages. After chapter one, we were hoping to get away from "Orange" but that's the color of street lights...

I think Molly well become a pretty popular character. The lighting effects turned out pretty well on this page. The cat is actually based on one of my cat Jewel.

    snoozer,

i like! the headlights coming from the car in the last frame look a little funny though...it looks like it bends and then goes over the girl?

are you painting these? i like the textures.

95% of the art is done with Flash. We use photoshop for a few effects like clouds, dust, and smoke imported into the flash files as png.s

I wanted to work on some lighting issues on this page and keep the backgrounds from intruding on the characters.
