A study I did of a statue of Joan of Arc - from photo. I would love to see the actual statue at Notre Dame, as I am in love with it.

Anyway, I blew the study as I ended up enlongating her face - the statue's face is far more "boxy." But aside from that caveat, I think it came out fair.

    Pencil on paper.

Oregano, your sketchbook is an absolute inspiration. Especially the work you did for DEEP; that's a fascinating world you created. Great rendering skills, and very fun designs. I'm subscribing.

    Thanks guys.

Here's one that I did originally on a sticky note at work, and then redid in painter last night after working on the mermaid for Chow.

That one is particularly engaging, Shane. The simplicity and complexity are woven like a fine silk. Like a chunky strawberry-banana smoothy.

The improvement over the last couple of years is awesome Shane. The one thing I'd like to see you work more on is presentation/graphic design skills. I think that a break through in that area will help your work immensely. We need to get you down to Seattle one of these days.

    Thanks for the comments Mike.

Interesting thing is, I am a graphic designer by trade - that's my day job right now. I tend to avoid it when I'm doing my artwork, because I do it all day long.

You can see some of it slip out if you troll the Chow threads - I did all the header graphics and buttons there.

But, you're right. I should spend more time on that than just slapping the stuff on the page. Jason got on my ass about the the same thing.

    Cheers,
    ~Shane
