    small update 06-22-08

HunterKiller_ Thanks! I felt positively stoned (pardon the pun) when I finished. It's only about 3 inches high!

flamable Thanks - We'll see about colour. I'm not quite ready to go that route again, but soon, I think.

    Quinn Simoes Thanks Quinn

    Victor B No, thank you

solorpower Hey Juan! Hope things are going well with your designs!

Anyway, small update here: 2 Characters:

Whelp. Here it is. My Deep entry. It developed a life of its own, and I ended up with something that I think doesn't quite fit the guidelines, but I'm satisfied with it.

[I've got a few stupid typos here and there. I'm aware of them, but don't have time to fix them].

    (I'll post replies later).

I second what crazydude just said. I really like how you just keep it to sketches. Those sketches are all very nice and well handled. The presentation of the whole project is well done.

Awesome characters they are very animated, beautiful pencil renderings as well, one thing though is make sure you exploit the whole value range of the pencil

Oregano your version of Smaug was excellent. I really thought his expression and figure really caught the idea that this was a old, deep dragon. And although I liked the body on some of the other dragons better, the head on your Smaug was easily the best. Truly the Dragon of dragons. His head captured the slow to anger look, but incredible power hiding beneath that a creature like Smaug might have known. I don't know if it would have helped to color it, but I thought that the monochromatic version was awesome. Keep up the good work.

I thought your Smaug was fantastic!. You really got his character which is truly what the ChOW is all about. The characters in post 697 are beautifully realised; like some twisted Wizard of Oz Tin man. It's good to see you really refining your pencil technique so much. And as crazy3dman says you should be really proud of your Deep entry.

Shane, your DEEP work is just so profound and... gosh, deep!

    That Smaug, though... brilliant.

    Well, done, my friend.

Oof! I really need to pay more attention to what's going on here and update more often!

LaPalida :: Thanks Lap Good to see you haunting the forums again!

daestwen :: Thanks Daestwen Just keep at it!

Hybrid_75 :: Heya - thanks. Actually, I think the mosaic went into the IDW ... I think. I don't remember now

wholecar, Nkristian, Mydrim, Salacuis and destinyapocalypse :: Thank you!

crazy3dman :: Hey man, thanks for the kind words! The whole Deep thing took on a life of it's own, but more on that later

Jamesy :: Thanks I appreciate that.

Saturns Gate :: Thanks man. You in CHOW this week?

kelly x :: Kelly, thank you for your kind words

jedininjaman :: Thanks for your comments. I typically doing go as dark as I could out of personal preference, but I've been experimenting with going darker (see below) - also, I need to make sure to adjust my images once they are scanned because it seems that they lighten considerably once prepped for the web ... But thank you!

stoph :: Hey stoph! how's it down under? Thanks for the words, man Still pluggin!

Kerberos :: thanks for your thoughtful words. I must have redesigned Smaug at least six, seven times trying to get that look In retrospect I think I should have spent more time on the body as well, but I really wanted to capture that expression!

Aly :: thank you! The pencil work is proving to be rather addicting, to be sure. RE: The bow/arrow incident - It looks better the way you did it, though! That's got to count for something! doesn't it?

Tim :: Thanks Tim - I'm really pleased you like the new stuff!

    Um ... ART!
A couple of these are cross posted from either CHOW or My Finished Thread or both, so.

These three sketches are companion pieces to the Two Gents (Tin Man & Bughead above). The whole thing has sort of morphed into an Alice in Wonderland sort of story. (Chris Bennet was the one that initially planted the idea in my noodle, so I'm sort of running with it). So, those three sort of move in sequence (Tin Man & Bughead would go after the Kiwi Gardener).
