    Haldor - heh, thanks!

I think I'll have more time for sketchbook soon. It's dead in here right now . Here's some small break from enviros.

I sketched this one on the edge of some notes. Really small one in reality.

    Hand studies.

Hogarth on the left. Memory on the right.

    Some random character design

    Playing with markers.

mrpank - Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

    Hand studies with pen.

    Cat sleeping in my room.

    Pencil doodles.

Finished piece based on sketch from previous update.

Today I also tried my method for finding shapes for enviroments and sketched bunch of thumbnails based on it. It's more like notes for myself than nice drawings so I'm not likely to post these chicken scratches here .

Your SB is freaking awesome. Cool designs for characters, and great hand studies. And your line quality on your pieces, just awesome. Ive been working alot on my line quality, but I still have a while till I get to the level that your on. Wanting to see more.

    Callops - Thanks!
    designboot - Thanks, man!
Envisor - Thanks for feedback. Line quality could still be better .

Today I was mainly sketching for my personal project - Perihelion Pen&Paper RPG. It's kind of preparation for finished character designs.
These are done in OC. I added some paper texture to soften it a little.

    And pencil stuff.
The female character is a bit over-erased and over-shaded so looks more messy.

Hey dude, thx for the feed back on my SB. I like the first 2 sketches you posted. Very scifi-ish. And the expressions on the characters faces are cool. The design for the palm, would really like to see a sketch where the character is using it.

Envisor - Thanks! The device on palm is supposed to be used by psionics to channel their mental energy. I think I'm going to use it.

Here's another pack of brainstorming in openCanvas.

    hey farvus~!

creating your own world is fun, isn't it? heheheh

keep it up with the similiar theme/genre! I found out with doing those 200+ quick designs, that it can serve as self-inspiration and generate even more ideas.

hey Farvus, sorry once again I haven't been around so much; slowly trying to become more active here again. love the abundance of studies and other things you've done lately, they look great and I'm sure they are paying off nicely. also it's really cool to hear that you're creating your own world for a personal project; great way to explore your creativity and really get some nice finished pieces done. I think the sketches you've done in and out of OC look wonderful so far, really nice feel and design to em. definitely looking forward to what you'll be coming up with for this, so keep at it!

machzero - Thanks! Actually it's not entirely my own world. Perihelion is amiga game published by Psygnosis in 1993. It's a big mix of postapocalyptic, cyberpunk and fantasy genres with specific atmosphere. I'm big fan of the world in which the whole action takes place and I always wanted to play pen&paper version of the game (like D&D, Wampire, Warhammer). Unfortunately it never existed so I came to an idea that I could make the "conversion" myself. The main problem is that nothing is fully explained so I had to fill all gaps with necessary description and also maintain the overall style of what was so far created. It's almost recreating the whole Perihelion from scratch.
Here are some screens from the game - http://www.amigamemo.com/screen.php?id=perihelion. I want to keep similar style in my rulebook illustrations but also give them something from myself .

Onir - Thanks! It's not a problem. Personal projects are much more fun than just producing random doodles and it's also good concept design exercise.

Here are thumbnail sketches for illustrations in character creation chapter. Starting from top lef - Knight, Mercenary, Mediator, Assassin, Anachorite, Psionic. I wanted these to differ a lot from each other.

    Some new OC doodles.

    CallOps - Thanks!

I recently focused on written world description for factions in my project and it couldn't leave my head. That's why I didn't even think of drawing in free time. Not a good thing so I finally forced myself to draw something.

Here are some character ideas. Mutants on the right.

The hands are great, and your figure studies are really working well, the costumes are well designed. Work a bit on the 3 dimensionallity of your faces, though. You've come a long way!

    Coolness

I love finding artists who show the processes for their Ideas. It can be discouraging to stroll into a sb and find mindblowing pieces one after another, but when I get to see the process of "ideation" it's like being able to see the path to the top of that hill you are trying to climb.

I love all the sketches, both characters and environments.

Hand studies. Smart man, I wish I was as smart as you. Did you use a mirar for those?

    reidai - Thanks!
Sybo - Thanks! Yea. I sometimes draw the front of the face so that it's easier for me to design it, but it can be also bad excuse .
designboot - Dzięki. Ostatnio coś mało sobie wycisku daje ale powoli wracam do codziennego rysowania.
MattGamer - Thanks! I'm glad you like it.
Q-Caddlewick - Thanks, man. Actually it's something new for me. I'm trying to organise myself and work more deeply on concepts. Collecting references, brainstorming, making notes and so on.
I didn't use mirror for these hands. Try this link - http://div.dyndns.org/references/

I stopped drawing for a while and I don't know why it happened. Maybe it's just lazyness. However I started drawing daily and with every day it's more and more hours. Here's what I gathered so far since last update.

    Sargent value study.

    Daumier value study.

I recently forced myself to do some life drawings and it turned out quite fun. I focused on mainly on ink cityscapes. Here's me drawing during the night.

Really bad photo beacause I made it with my cell phone. Some where really big failures (drawing in uncomfortable position and 8 degrees Celsiuss during the night ) so I posted only those saisfying ones.

Wooden rooster from Indonesia that I got as a present. Perfect organic form for still life drawings .

I grabbed some screenshots from "Solaris" movie and practiced painting with no gradation. Really hard exercise. It's amazing how many moods it's possible to replicate with only few values.

Another two screenshots. This movie has really interesting light. It's all about contours, silhouettes, subtle highlihts at the edge of face. I enjoy analysing every frame of it .

    yo farvus~!

just by chance, I just watched solaris for the first time last week. Enjoyed the mood very much (and the set designs too! heheh). Tried doing some simple colour studies from some the stills?

machzero - Thanks! "Solaris" is my favourite book and I didn't like the movie beacause it wasn't how I imagined the story. The station always seemed to me a really bright place with different colours. I understand that the Soderbergh here wanted to show big visual contrast between reality and the memories (cold palette for space station and warm palette for earth) but prefer the purple hues from the sun like it was in the book. Most of the original story is about Solaris while the movie is mainly focused on love between Calvin and Rheya. Besides, there's lots of other small changes that I didn't like.
However recently I watched the movie again but this time much closer and I noticed really interesting visual side. The general quiet mood, music and the main actors are what's fine. I'd do the rest differently.
Maybe I'll later try doing my vision on how the space station would look like.

I didn't do any colours studies beacause I mainly focused on value .

    Crappy ancient architecture studies.

    Thanks guys.

These are my last drawings in this sketchbook. As I said in some other thread, my main goal here was to be completely honest and post completely everything that I draw. It turned out that it's preventing me from drawing a lot beacause I feel forced when posting some comlete doodles that I feel are not worth showing. I would love to just fill one sketchbook a week but when I think about how much time would take scanning and posting everything, it gives me thrills. It's starting to discourage me a lot.

Here are some ink sketches from photo reference - album about "Lombardia". + from few industrial photos found on google.

And some doodle I made in Sketcher few days ago.

Just wanted to tell you, some weeks ago, I was so depressed and not willing to draw anymore. I felt like shit and frustrated. Then after seeing your thread and how you improved and the passion you put into your studies put me back on the drawing track again. Thank you man,

And those Solaris studies are fucking kick-ass! My favourite movie!
