LowFro's Sketchbook... Update June 17th

All right, after checking out CA for a while now, I have finally decided to submit something. I'm hoping that posting here will drive me to produce more work, and a greater variety of work. I really appreciate any comments and critiques you guys can give me, the talent on this forum is awe inspiring.

To start off this is just a quick assignment from school.

This one was for a project where we had to illustrate any profession we wanted as if it were an corporate/industrial socialist poster, although I seem to have gotten away from that in the end. So yeah... this is my gas attendant (and yes the inuendoes are intentional). I am aware of the tension points with the squeege, as well as the tightness of everything on the right. I also feel that the left side is to empty.

This is the first time I have posted in a forum like this so please forgive me if the images don't show.

I like the image of the first one, though I don't quite get any socialist feel from it. Nice stuff though. Second piece looks ok, but I'm more of a lineart/sketch kinda guy.

not a bad start man.. I'd lose the vector stuff. I dig the first image. You might enjoy Pac23. He has similar style to yours.

hehe, once upon a time I was a gas station attendant, but I never rubbed my crotch with a squeegee. You might want to put a cigarette in his mouth to add to this tension.

if it fails as a socialist poster, i think it suceeds as a well designed image with a great color concept. you should be glad your figure work is to natural for that kind of style anyway

I agree that it doesn't really capture the sociallist feel at all, but I got away with it as far as my in class critique went. As for the idea of the cigarette in his mouth, thats actually a comment I got in my critique as well. i like this image quite a bit, so perhaps ill redo it and put in the cigarette and get rid of a couple of tension points.

Im sorry about the size of the vector, I keep trying to change it but it doesnt seem to effect the size that it shows up as in photobucket...

The First image was done in watercolor and india ink. The text was added in photoshop.

This is another drawing I did for class, the idea for this one was to just draw a portrait of a famous perso as if it were for an editorial. There is more to it than that, but its not really worth explaining.



I look at it now and I feel the eyes are to big, and the hatching is weak, I do like that hand though.

If anyone guesses who it is ill declare them master of the universe... or perhaps ill just say, "wow, thats good that it kinda looks like the person..."

The first person who came to mind was the lead singer to Weezer.

Indeed it is the guy from weezer, and their new album came out on tuesday, so if your a fan of the band I highly reccomend it, or even if you arn't already a fan.

Hopefully ill have some more work up in the next day or so, I haven't done any work really since my last semester ended. I needed a little down time to get my creative juices goin again.

These are just some quick Jedi drawings done at work, they kinda feel cheesy and cliche' to me, but hey, drawing is drawing right? Practice makes perfect?

There are some issues with anatomy, and drapery, but im just happy to have completed some character drawings. I have a REALLY bad habit of not finishing the majority of my drawings.

Any crits would be really appreciated, and hopefully i'll have more drawings up soon.
