    the mechanic

Hey again everyone. This was just something I wanted to make between final projects at school. Due to schedules, i wasn't able to make anything very finished, and was kinda craving a new finished image. so, here goes. this is sort of a preliminary design for a character i've been dabbling with.

    Awesome!

Great expression and character design. Nice feel to it, the atmosphere. Trying to be real picky: The texture on the wrench takes over for me, maybe should be more subtle. The grease stains on her belly look almost like holes/wounds. Love to see more! Peace.

How did you get that red lighting in there?? did you put a light effect on your originally drawing? or on the highlight layer??

Lovely overall, she's a might bit cute.

i don't like the filtered texture on her shorts. it's too uniform and doesn't follow the volume of the fabric and looks rather slapped on. i think it works well with the wrench, but not so well with clothing.

i see you fixed the posing of her right arm (in front of pipe now instead of behind) looks much better but one slight, slight crit. On the top edge of that forearm resting on pipe, its curving inwards, i think it should be curving slightly outwards.

small paintover to show. hope u don't mind. sorry for the quality, i'm lazy so its done in paint.

very nice - the character's expression is priceless! The red overlay looks kinda cool but it is flattening out the overall value range a bit. It might look better with some darker shadows that are not so red. Also the wrench texture definitely needs to be toned down some.

    great job overall though.

I want to marry Isric, lol.
Great piece, as usual!!! Your style is so cool. It's one of those darwing styles where you look and say "pfft, i can do that!" then actually get in there and fail when you try.. atleast, that's what's happened to me... heh

beautiful. You're skills with light really show through. Personally I think the texture on the shorts is great. The anatomy is spot on for the stlye.

Checked you site. Love your style and sense of colour. Look forward to seeing more.

same here .. the patch doesn't really work... or at least the hearts you should lose I think. brings too much attention without an effect..
    I love the enormous wrench...

    Hey Isric

There is a lot of talent out there, but I find your work some of the best out there. I love your design, and overall drawing style. Hands, faces, posture all done with grace! Keep up the good work.

thanks to Crow, ParkerD, lewiston, ezekiel, interceptor, alti, DSillustration, Meren, and Ninjaboy

feral714 - thanks about the character and atmosphere.thanks for the crit too, appreciate it.

ParkerD - actually it was by adjusting curves. hit cntrl+m and switch to the red, then bring up your darks a bit. turns all darker colors into redish tones

euphony - thanks for the crit. personally i'm a big fan of flat sections in an image, so i probably won't change it, but it's good to have it pointed out anyway.

angel of light - thanks man, that looks much better

Rusty - good to hear that from you Jace, thanks

spudstudios - kind of you to say, thanks! (and that patch was sewed on with...gotta go!)

DernierCri - the patch is there for a particular effect, and a few people have commented that they enjoy it, plus i kinda like it (of course it won't work! it's cloth)

se7en - yeah, i printed this off and realized i needed some darker values

jackotheslacko - wow, thanks for saying so

Capprotti - rad, thanks! i'll pass that along to tom aswell

hahaha why do impractically oversized weapons and tools look so good? Anyway, the comp is a bit dead but the other things like lighting and texture are yummy! Great work sir.

Btw, you forgot the big gun attachment for the wrench.
