they look good
nice to see some life drawings. my suggestion is to maybe use some more values. maybe spend a little more time on some of them.
Obviously these are warmups, as you said. . .very good, at that. A few of them could probably benefit from stronger attention to anatomy - the last female neck seems super long, and a number of the arms seem to have larger forearms that upper arms. (That could very well be the way the actual model was, its just something I see repeated and I'm not sure it would have been that pronounced.) I know in my own life drawing there's a tendency to use really over-lumpy lines. . .even on the oldest and droopiest of models, there will be at least a few smooth, sweeping lines, which I'm not really seeing in any of these. Good stuff, though, definately nice to see life drawing - post some finished work as soon as you can!

Hi SchweineHund!
I really like the ballpen drawings. Wish i was a loose as you.
Put the more rendered once online quick
calvin
hi everyone,
first repiles:
willpaxton: cheers!
cthomp: i agree with what you say about values: one thing i have focused on recently is getting more tone into my life drawings: the quick scetches i tend to still treat in quite a linear-centric way, but in the larger drawings i really try to get some contrast in there...
jkior: thanks very much for the crit, its hard to get any attention in here as there are so many established threads by top level artisits. I try to keep anatomy in mind as i make these drawings. i will try and stay more focused: i think in many drawings that i dont step back enough to check overall proportions from area to area: like the arm/forearm as you say. As for Dee's neck (the tall female model) she really does have an enourmous neck!- she is the 'longest' person i have ever seen!
Sweeping lines is something i shall start looking at: i agree with you that i make things a bit lumpy on occaision... will try and pull it in a bit.
calvin: hey mate! good to see you've started a sketchbook too... i checked out your website yesterday: some cool stuff on there: OLDSKOOL!![]()
well, its update time!
i have photographed my larger drawings now so please take a look at them. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.... i am constantly trying to improve.
This week i dug out my water colours (been 6 years!!) really enjoyed this one but i got too tight with the pencil first and lost some of the expressive quality i would expect to get from the paint. Today i went out and bought a decent sized watercolour pad: will try and get better resluts next session: i am rusty with the medium...

Everything seems to be in order as far as I can see....your life drawing are damned sweet and all the other studies are solid too....your venture into digital is just as solid, although it could use abit of tightening up, but meh it's a sketchbook right ?
Anyways, really awesome stuff man, keep it up...
your light sources on that last one need a bit of tweaking... compare the legs of the cow with the girls thigh...
also, adding cast shadows from the girl onto the cow will help her sit better.
nice tho! like the concept.
Shatterdome: thanks very much!!
Newman: cheers for the crit boss! A man with your skills really ought to have a presence here on CA mate: get posting your work so all the world can enjoy it!
Heres a bit of an update on the dairy queen... still lots more to do but i am getting into it now... i've started adding a more definate light source from the right hand side.
i am moving away from the sick look i was doing and am now going for an 'overly wholesome' aesthetic instead: manic smile, ott colour..so sickly its sinister (hopefully!)
i will get some more work done on the dress and the cow asap..
all C & C welcomed and much appreciated...
cheers,
jake

I like the cowgirl!![]()
I think you need to work a bit more in the leg. Where she bends the leg, her skin should come out rather than in. It looks like it is a 3D character, that isnt properly skinned yet.
Heh. The cow is pretty funny. Nice studies here, but please draw the females as detailed as the malesGod stuff.
Top work man. I new you would kick my ass at drawing a dairy queen but I wasn’t expecting that….50 thumbs up. Nice to finally see your none life drawing work and I like what I see.
calvin, thanks man! i have fixed the leg, will update her soonish!
fellah. cheers! not sure what you mean about the 'but please draw the females as detailed as the males' but thanks!
res: your dairyqueen was cool mate! thanks for your kind words!

Jah its time for an update. That Lion-o is hawt.
well finally time to update!!
its been way too long but i really want to start getting into reguarly updating this thread.
here are me doodles and what not from the past few weeks,
a few pages of heads:
did this page after reading TH White's 'The Once and Future King' - a retelling of the authurian epic. fun little book! lancelot is ugly but still the best knight in the worldwill probably explore these characters further: at least gwaine, lancelot, arthur and mordered.
some preparatory sketches for a Zbrush sculpt of the dark night: miller being my main point of reference...
finally my CHOW entries from recent weeks:
dragon slayer that never got finished:
lord henry frederickson:
the lich king:
and my personal fave, nancy goodaim:
i have more to post but they require me taking digital photos and so will have to wait.
chris ocampo: cheers mate!
dirty_c: thanks, man: heres your update. enjoying your sketchbook a lot lately: keep it up !
lukavi cheers for dropping by, your sketchbook is one of my absolute faves at the moment: lovely lyrical style and your colour are beautiful!
nice big fat update! i think that unfinished scifi chow girl could be really good with a few tweaks- maybe shifting her head to the left a bit and drawing some feet in?
keep em comin!
Excellent works.Last monster looks great and characters too.Keep post more.
Hey cakeypigdog, that's no robot - that's a suit, we can see the little open cockpit and luxurious leather seat up on top. Will you be putting a little pilot in there?
Boom. That's a mammoth update. Lovin' it, dude. You like to draw faces a lot, don't you? (understatement). The lich king shines for me in this set. Good stuff, hope to see more.
just a quicky WIP : will be painting this up pronto for tomorowsn CHOW deadline if i can find the time... only half keen on it but i really enjoyed playing with my new graphite powder and graphite stick and putty rubber, FUN!
[IMG][/IMG]
newman: cheers man i might dust her off for a play soon,
ganbat bad: thanks man!
Wetterschneider: busted! my pilot has been wip for over a year now: will post him up soon: oishiiniku and i had a cool idea for a giant robot game: you can check his first pilot out on his sb. excellent facial hair!
lukavi: thanks for posting! i do indeed love the faces... got a ways to go need to go back to loomis and absorb more: lots more heads to come! the lich was something different for me: had fun doing it: liked the contrast but not so keen on the subject.
very nice! i like the way the background stuff is fading off.
Very nice sketchbook you've got goin here.
Cool pirate, Cakey - I like the frilly sleeve bits, and the garish facial makeup.
that first fruits one is great. i really like the chow one, but looks like more of a vampire dandy than a metro pirate to me...very nice drawing tho!
I liked that fat Batman (better u call him Fatman). I could imagine him using his Batman tricks to fly..and then fall down to the ground like a fat rock
