Hi all,
I figured I start my sketch book today. Posting and seeing others people's work makes me want to try harder, so here I go...
I've been working on this for a while. Finally done.

we all wanna be .. or wanna have or wanna get stuff we dont have.. cant get.. or still needing lotsa time to become
iam a wannabe like you !still learning.. still drawing..
![]()
ur stuffs looking goodthere are mistakes yea.. but i do errors too.. then i draw more to improve and fix these mistakes iv done
an easy way is.. subdevide body into easy geometrie.. cylidners and cube are easy to draw and easy to allign*orient in 3D space - this way u understand lotsa things..3D perspective setup.. volume creation and foreshortening.. this is very important.. when u move ur hand in front of ur eye.. and polay around with posings and do some finger actions.. theres lotsa foreshortening.. this is important when we try to draw stuff
Posting and seeing others people's work makes me want to try harder <- ahahaha same for me man
if u wanna have some more tips about drawing and how to .. improve draw.. create etc.. just ask.. i like to heelp and share![]()
check my wannabe sketchbook![]()
keep up ! TRY HARDER >_> ;D![]()
Looks good so far.
Do some studies from life to help you out with anatomy and proportions.
Here are some 3/4 faces I sketched.

And here is a animation type cell I did as a gift for my brother

Cool. That gun is drawn well I might add. Try checking out http://saveloomis.org You seem to be having touble with heads, you should really check out the book about heads over there. Good luck and keep posting![]()
Thanks for the comp on the gun. I'm finding it easier to draw from reference, but I don't want to keep doing that. I started some studies to try to help that.
Here are some lizards.

You know what you should do. Start to study the Human Skull and then the Human Skeleton. Once you learn the proper proportions of the skull drawing the face tends to be a lot easy, same goes for the body.
I've actually found that for drawing the body the parts to focus on are the Rib Cage and the pelvis. Once you align then properly you can then put in the rest of the body.
Read up on The CounterPosto Pose and you will see what i mean.
~Looks to me like you art so far is inspired in some way by Jim Lee. Jim Lee Rocks.
~Matt
Majofo,
I was starting to think that I needed to draw some reference skulls, but your point about the rest of the skeleton is well taken. I have a friend who is a doctor. I'll bet you that he'll let me borrow his anatomy books.
As far as Jim Lee goes, the guy is awesome. I love his work since I first saw his work on the X-Men in the '90s.

good stuff![]()
ur head "studies" are good ... see them as studies.. and think about form and shape.. think about "WHAT you see" because : when u see head.. u dont see one frame of head rotation when the head turns tilds or rotates the image u see CHANGES - but what detail is changing bedween the image i SEE and the image i DRAW - know the answer ???????????
thats what u got when u try those heads... see put a cube in front of ur eye.. u can place it like so that u only see the FRONT quad - no top no bottom quad -> the horizont of your EYE is at same level as the quads EDGES/lines rotate the cube or change ur viewpoint make changes appear
when u rotate a single line that line just gets -> FORE-SHORTENED <- it becomes shorter while u rotate it
when u change ur view -> above below -> their lines placement inside 3D space changes (draw a big cube and draw a smal inside -> now rotate the small cube - compare the image and see what changes )
back to ur head studies - u need alot to get good looking heads because u need to learn "how to draw heads" we all need to learn.. its a process .. like learning how to ride a bike.. i really suggest to start simple here.. saves time and keep frustration away.. FAAAAAr away !
start with front head and profile.. *hard enough to start with* the importance here is ur view or the image u see.. because.. depending on ur eye level horizont the image u SEE differs*changes
when u see head from total front - u may see the nose holes just a bit.. move ur eye level up .. the nose hols dissapear and the eye brow hair moves closer to the forehead cap *looks like the eyebrow hair just appears above the eye*
move ur level below and the nose holes start to become BIGGER * when u draw this u have easy shape rotation here - rotate a cube - see the cube like the nose to get a feeling for these events ... for how does perspective behave.. u learn all drawing rules with a simple cube
u have changes at the angles and foreshortening for each degree u turn or rotate the objects u wanna draw
for the profile shape its bit diffrent but almost same... when u draw profile.. keep it simple.. maybe 30 lines the important hting here are the ANGLES
the head seen from front has a special forehead angle.. see that face from side and memorize this angle...diffrent head characteristics diffrent angles
imagine now how the head rotates.. how to draw that ? remember the forhead front angle and just adjust it.. but adjust the rest too.. otherwise u have twisted results.. adjust all angles for same amount and u have a rotated head.. the head looks up or down train this with simple head and profile shapes.. or use anythign u like but keep it simple
.. took a long time for me to learn this.. so be patience and ask me when u got problems
it maybe sounds BOOORING or something but it helps soo much and its soooooo *censored* easy.. draw cubes and rotate them.. gett feeling for distance and perspective compare cubes and see how and where they differ
see objects in ur surroundings as easy geometrie.. when u see something smooth.. seperate it into easy cubical setup*geometrie <- how to simplifie
see ur fingers as 3 ccubes.. palm cube too.. arm legs cylinders.. pc monitor some cubes...room cube.. door cube.. pc keyboard cube... pc mouse.. cube but bit more complex maybe![]()
theres a thing in us which is the part that gathers info and is able to learn things for us.. when i say I can draw then iam just able because that thing made myself able to learn things like drawing.. depending on given requirements.. some of us learn faster some of us not.. but we all need to be patient and spend time in order to learn
for me.. its normal to say : u may need 100000 head studies to got the ideas : u need 1000000 more to understand the volume behaviour in 3D space : u need 1000000000000000 more to got the head in my brain means : i can draw the head full 3D means more then 44mio shapes
studie step by step - dont try hard stuff first - maybe develope your own schedule - dont get frustrated when u dont see what u wanna see but tell urselfs ok u need to draw shit in order to draw cool stuff.. ( its because of the process) u need to SHOW yourself HOW drawing works - u cant just do it because you are you and iam me![]()
you mabe got a huge talent but u need tools to focus it.. to keep it sharp like a blade (dont cut ur fingers hahah) .. some talented ppl may never sharp their talend because they never develope tools for some reasons.. main thing is lack of patience.. i dont wanna think about what i would do if i never satrted drawing againso much talend wasted.. huuuhhh what a nightmare
![]()
![]()
![]()
![]()
all of us are talented but some need just more time to reveal that talend and become able to express it.. its like the way from the one-cell amöbe ?! to the human.. how many years it took.. how many years to evolute ?! 30423944095734095723976085860ß098453069 years ?![]()
evolution = time-eating monster ?
keep it up
i draw heads evry day : maybe 30 heads per papershee - paper gots 2 sides so 60 heads per paper - both sides cost me 40 mins - i draw 3-4h+ a weekday 8h+ at weekends .. doing heads since a few weeks.. ... makes lotsa heads .. i dont care about anything because i know i need to do THIS in order to learn to draw and to learn how to draw heads.. (requirements : schedule : step by step : precise developed techniques - otherwise its maybe just drawing and u dont have proof that you reach your goal - or learn anything - so the more u think the faster you learn- your mind is the only tool u have to make that world perceptable for ourself/ to make yourself understand yourself within that world)
be patient
okee enough![]()

Hey SSB,
Thanks for the crits/advise/help. That was a really long read. I tried to pull the basic points out.
1. Draw 3D cubes. Rotate them. Draw them again.
2. Draw cubes inside cubes. Rotate them independently. Draw them again.
3. Draw quick sketches on head profiles to get used to facial angles.
4. Draw full front heads rotating them like I did with the cubes, trying to picture faces geometrically.
5. Keep practicing.
Is that about the size of it? Maybe you can additional comment of another thread of mine.

Thanks again

Hey, you got some great sketches of women yourself. Good work. I like the way you do the super heroes. Post some more. I'll be interested in seeing some more. Later

good stuff, just keep drawing and study anatomy....thats what i'm doing now haha. I heard from a lot of people that working from life is better (to learn from) than photo ,which I agree with, have you taken any figure/life drawing classes?
]
Darkchild, I like sketching women too. I really want to get a good Harley Quinn out, but I have been working on technique more lately. I get some more comic stuff up. Keep checking.
Aan, I am working on getting better at anatomy. Actually, my first class start in August, so I will have to settle for life drawing in society and photos until then. I'll stroll through your sketchbook when I can take a really good look.

Dynamic Anatomy by Burne Hogarth... Destroy it!! You will no doubt improve.
Just checking out your new sketches. Good work. You look like you're getting a better understanding of anatomy. I'm no expert at it myself, I work from photo reference lots of times to get the right look and angle. I'll be interested in seeing more from you. The still life sketches are also cool. Just need to improve on the rendering for your anatomy. I'll be checking back. Later

Wow, Hylander (after the movie?? he ROCKS!!)
I'm majorly impressed.. Just in the past few weeks you've shown massive improvement. Your faces have character.. I really dig that.
Keep bustin' em out bud!! I'll be checkin back!
P.S. there is nothing wrong with catwoman's gloves!! she rocks!

I decided Darkchild was right. The rendering was lacking on this last post. I reworked it. Thanks man.
Faust, thanks for the encouragement. I want to get better, so feel free to crit.
Cobi, yeah, it started with the movie, then series and go figure, now I live on Highland Ave! Thanks for the kind words on the faces. I seem to be able to draw faces better on a larger scale. I have to work on smaller scale faces in order to get the features correct. I'm also getting used to Catwoman's new costume. Leather works I guess. I like frontal zippers...I need to draw some...

Hey hun! Just seein what's new here. I like the last few that you've posted. The very last one has great shading and great hair (I'd kill for it!! haha jk)
I do think her right arm is too long and the left forearm is too long & bicep is too short. I still love it tho. Keep up the awesome work
Ps, what is she hanging from? A bunkbed? A helicopter? a stipper pole? wait.. no.. that can't be it! hehehe!
