Mostly weird doodles, and a self portrait to round the night off!

    Cheers! Gotta sleeep!

Oh damn son! This update kills little babies. The blue ink portrait i'm liking a lot, the blue catches the eye like lightening. And all the stuff from your head is always interesting; almost like your creative/imagination side is fighting with your realism/studies. And you drew the CA smiley! When I first saw I actually burst out laughing in amazement for like 2 minutes. I even got my girlfriend to look. It's cool how you can see the individual pixels. Daamn dude, I gotta catch up to this shiz. Thing is, i'm sleepy. Thanks for listening to the show too man! Cheers!

i know right??? Zord inspired me to draw these crazy mummified dogs...started out as 5 minute gestures and then couldn't stop

NEWAYZ--> what kinda brush pens are you using??? "Granted Materials don't make the artist.." but, I need to get some to do some drawrings with. "Self Portrait to round the night out with" ? indeed sir!

God damn, your pace's crazy. Don't you get any homework to do?
    ha, ha JK
Incredible acrylic painting. Dig the firts one the most. Second one's been a gude practice I'd say, had to do one of these, just yesterday on myself. But as you said, compositionwise, it aint interesting. Could chop right half off.
Sp's are coming out great. Great likeness (saw your pic in lounge section). Although I would try draw people from life even more, as when you draw heads from imagination, you give them unwillingly similar features as studied from your own. (Hope my English made sense)
Great lifestudies, should not bother about doing face right at some of these though. The overal appearance of the whole boddy's more important. You missed to finish hands and feet on this one for example.
    Keep working hard
    n so long....

Man, it's looking great especially the latest girl watercolor.
I would just try to really force yourself to use as few lines as possible.

    Keep it up

Great stuff, I like the first sketch in the last batch, it would look great with a more interesting body. I don't like to tell people how to study, but I think some a few academic studies now and then would really improve the quality of your work, I know I have the opposite problem most of the time. Look forward to updates!

Zord - Haha I thought you'd like the ca smiley. Drawing pixels was fun.

    jthierbach - Thanks!

guggenmaneuver - Brush pens are these weird ones from Tria Pentel (same people that make the markers and refills ) that has a refillable reservoir. I have 2 i pour water into for my quick watercolour studies, and 1 with some diluted marker ink.

blacky - Haha, this is me WITH homework to do Glad you like the acrylics, second one was a good lesson on composition. Teacher said he only cared about the execution, so I took it as a chance to make mistakes and learn. I think you're right about my imagination faces, gotta work on that!

Profil - Thanks for the advice, I'll try to keep that in mind!

Dan1989 - Thanks! Please do tell me how to study, I need all the advice I can get! I'll go for a few more academic studies, Gonna attempt a 3 hour pose life drawing session on Sunday, maybe that'll help.

JustinBeckett, arya & archipelago - Thanks!

Update, even more on the way, just gotta clean em up in PS first. Here's the first batch:

Sketch of HEROIC done in cafe, then finished off from photo i took.

    Random stuffs

    Self portrait

    Subway sketching

Went down to a cathedral to do some sketching

Life drawing, some are grease pencil, rest are conte. First time life drawing with conte, spent a bit too long playing with the medium, didnt finish a lot of em.
    2 minute

    5 minute

    10 minutes

    Break

    15 minute

More to come very very soon!

Hello, SirGreenSock. That's very powerful update, a lot of wonderful art in it.

Colored portrait of Heroic is great, just awesome feeling of living breathing person, with very truthful expression of his face. Colors are very pleasant too, and I like the whole composition. You should do more and more portraits, I'm deeply impressed.

And I enjoy your model's drawings tremendously. Wonderful, just wonderful. Such a good skills you show, proportions, speed, confident lines, good volume and rendering. Love most of them, the most appealing for me 15 min, 2 min, 10min with the stick, such a joy to look at them, thanks.

And I like the pencils portraits too.
    So it was a pleasure.

    hot damn what an update

Tremendous job, and thanks for the technical tip on the markers. how can you do so many amazing drawings in one figure drawing session? it totally blows my mind. great work... this is so amazingly tight... great, great work! You must be getting fast at roughing in those proportions-->because the rendering phase is being done so artfully and superbly. excellent!

Hurricane - Hey! Thanks a lot for checking out my humble body of work! I'm glad you like the life drawings!

Boogieman - Thanks! Hope you get a chance to do more figure drawing!

Sve - Thanks a lot for the kind words Sve. I am glad you like the portrait of Heroic, I was really trying to capture the feeling he was emanating in the scene with the colour composition and his expression. I will do more portraits from now on, this one was very rewarding. I'm happy you like the figure drawings as well, you've picked out some of my favorites, too.

guggenmaneuver - Hey thanks! I think some of my gesture work is translating into the longer studies, in the study you've pointed out you can still make out the gesture on the leg thats hanging down. I've been trying to integrate my rendering and gesture more into each other, doing blocking in of the form while still watching the proportion, that way there's less work to do in the later cleaner rendering phase.

Here's the rest of the work I've scanned. Thats it for tonight, more tomorrow?

Blind self portraits, first one was done from memory as well, looked in the mirror to memorize features then drew them blind. These exercises have taught me a lot about the way i draw; individual features come out somewhat correct, but their relations and the space in between is way off. Gotta work on bringing the whole face together as one feature, not a mix of others. Maybe do some cross-contour blind self portraits.

shitty hand studies, gotta work on structure

    Subway sketch group on sunday!

The woman on the right in this one was done by Bobby Chiu, he was demonstrating and teaching me more about line weights and volume.

Self portraits with double mirrors to get the profile, and upside-down views

    More developed hand study

    Brain fart

    library and class sketches

Self portrait and hand study, experimenting with my watercolour palette, and playing with opacity by mixing white into some of the tones.

    Pen sketch of Michelangelo's Moses

    Self portraits

    'nother brain fart

    Tonights self portrait, brush pen

Hey SirGreen, nice update. I like the juxtaposition between the demon and the li'll kid i also like the free running monster doodles at mid page. Try to bring more of that gestural line to your rep work and see where it takes you.

Excellent bike chain, you've got an eye for colors and light, for sure.

    Sweet stuff en masse.
Nice lifedrawings, although you might need to plan in advance some more how to put figure within paper limits (leg seems too shoet on this one.
Some other ones turned out real great. I dig your conte stuff more than the pencil one. (Perhaps cuz I like the medium more).
Great sub sketches too. Try to cover as much of a persons body as possible though. Your faces are fantastic, but limbs are slacking at times.
Oh, and you could try use some Watercolourpaper and no black or whiteout.
But I guess its only cuz I was taught that stuff the traditional way, that it bothers me.

    So long...

    Thanks for the encouragement everyone!

Gloominati - Thanks Gloom! You just keep doing what you're doing!

    T-Raktor - Thanks!

archipelago - Thanks, I started life drawing last year, and I find that doing so helped me more than anything else. I'm sure if you look hard enough you can find some life drawing classes near you, and if not, there is always the subway, bus, street, park, mall etc full of people just asking to be drawn. Good luck!

    Flaskpost - Asspats recieved, thanks!

AmishCommy - Hey Commy! Im glad you liked that one, more on the way, just for you!

Zord - Thanks! This update got a bit retarded, meaning you'll probably like it!

That fat kid - Thanks, I'll see what i can come up with!

blacky - Thanks a lot for the crits! You're right, I'm gonna watch how i place the figure on the page, not the first time it messed me over. Also right on the subway sketches, I'll try to do more full-body works and not just the heads and faces! That watercolour youre talking about was just an experiment to specifically go against the traditional methods, the white was only used to increase the opacity of the colour to make it closer to gouache.

    Master 25 Days - Thanks!

guggenmaneuver - Haha hey guggen! Asspats recieved! : ]

HEROIC - Hey man! Haha if you count that as a self portrait you might as well count every single page as one, the treatment and choice of subject matter shows as much about what i look like as my self portraits! Thanks for all the kind words and the encouragment since september, love ya man! These next few weeks are gonna blow my mind! (and a few capilaries)

    Asoir - Thanks! Will do!

Shylone_Breath - Thanks! As for watercolour, im not sure, Im still trying to learn myself. Experiment with it a LOT, dont be scared of mistakes, just dive into it. Find some good books about artist's techniques, 2 of my favorites are Breaking the rules of watercolour by Burt Silverman and Painting people in watercolour: a design approach by Alex Powers. Yeah, I know Bobby Chiu, I meet with him at the Subway Sketch group every Sunday. : D

rasdasa - Thanks a lot for the kind words! I'll try to incorporate some more gestural lines in there, just gotta be careful not to overdo it!

Wow you guys replied a lot, here's the first half of the update, the rest still has to be scanned. This week and next week Im busting my ass to get my portfolio in order for Sheridan, been going downtown to do as much sketching as I can to give me a good selection.

Life Drawing! Did a couple of studies in Photoshop on my lappy! Lighting in there was odd, colours came out too orange on the second two, gotta pay more attention!
    Life drawing at school:

    aaand at TSA

2 minute gestures, packed 5 per page, wanna use the first one in the folio. Besides the first gesture and the digi, this session was all willow charcoal. I love the medium, but Im too slow with it, any tips?

    5 minutes

    10 minutes

    15 minutes

    20 minutes

Stopped by a cafe for some sketching, I'm gonna render the second one and use it for my drawing test for the folio

Went to the mall for some sketching. I like this one, except it has no depth

    Self Portraits:
    water-soluble pencil
