Haha you're still rocking the ballpoint man! I really like your hands, ou seem to have grasped the concept of them nicely already. I'd like to see some more organization in your scetch-pages. You can use all those studies to learn a bit about composition, too! Just put them in some kind of order, it would mean a bit step up in your work!

And don't give up on digitals! The more you do them, the better you'll get, just watch the proportions, that last spow is a bit warped.

But who am I to criticize you, right?

    kudos

faust - yeah, pen's the new pencil. haha. it's mostly because my pencil book is big, and i don't carry it everywhere. and my sketchbook is rougher than i would like. gonna look for one with smoother paper soon, but it's not the number one thing on my "get list", with looking for a steady job and all. but i do pencil when i can. yep, composition needs work, tons of work. right now, i just kinda draw when i see something interesting, and then fill in with imagination stuff (mostly hands, lately). something to think about. must get back to digitals...and yeah, that spow is reeeeeeally messed up. i'm using Inkscape (the vector cousin of GIMP), and there's something messed up with the gradient setting, that i couldn't change the position of anything without totally ruining the gradient settings, and i didn't want to put in another 2 hours of work at 3am. gotta see how they work, see how i can work around it, or through it. anyway, thx dude; seriously. hows things going with you? i'm spending a lot of time looking for steady work, and working. i've seen your updates, i'll put some time in and try to come up with some sort of semi-articulate crit. keep working hard man; see you virtually soon.

Yeah that spow is warped, too. Sometimes my drawings go into the right upper corner as well. The only thing that helps there is to constantly control the landmarks I guess.
About composition, the best thing with it is, you can make every drawing, every study you do a composition-study as well. It's at first really only about putting order and structure onto your paper and fill it not randomly. It's actually pretty easy, just think where you want the next drawing to be and think ahead where the drawing after that comes etc. It would make your scetchbook much less confusing, too, since some of the pages are hard to get into.

jiang - xie xie ni! thanks for stopping by, dude. i will see you in your thread.

faust - hey dude. in general, i get into themes for my sketchbook pages, and USUALLY put one type of drawing on it (life, train, anatomy, composition, etc). but, it's a really good idea. trying to work it into my stuff now. will scan and show at some point soon. thx for the crits, always man. your painting is getting pretty awesome these days man...keep it up. talk to you soon, man. how's the fam, btw? take care!

i really love the sketchbook pages, need to pick up a couple brown/grey markers, they look sweet , i wish i find some time to do that again, when i did it before work was cool, but now its dark at like 4.30 so its hard to draw people boo
really liking the renders of the devices [mp3 or something yees?] nice and
    as youve seen, any

uhm, quick crit for you, thumbnailing silhouette things, just go mental with a messy brush in photoshop, black against white, as long as you aim for something slightly like you want it, something cool will come out
eg, human- 2 legs 2 arms head, but do it crazy, rub things out, really quick, it should come out a bit more thumbailly and spawn some ideas

oh, and have you tried digi painting over a sketchbook page? nice lil exercise

keep them up, still putting me to shame haha
    cheers

Nice sketches, and these environment studies up there are gorgeous.
My favorites are the green one and the bottom right corner. And it's really cool seeing them all together like this.

iheart - great to see you back dude! thanks. yeah, you should DEFINITELY pick up some of the warm/cool grey markers...i think i'm learning a lot about painting from using those (especially cause i don't want to get real-paint-type messy... ). thumbnailing is definitely an area i need to push myself in. i tried on tuesday...isn't going so well so far, but i must keep trying. havent had much time to paint recently, between life happenings and all. digi-ing over sketchbook...i've done it, just not recently. very good exercise though...yeah, lots of stuff i need to put more time into. all in good time, my friend. thx for the crits, i will see you soon. peace!

chate - hey! thx for stopping by my place dude! glad you like. i think the snowy one was the most successful...it feels the most 3d out of all of them, and shows the most spatial volume with depth, methinks. should be more soon. again, thx for stopping by; i'll see you in your world. keep pushing patri, too; you seem to bring out the best in his art.

hygami - thx dude, and thx for visiting. hope to see you here again...i'll see you at your book!

narzayous - hey yo, thx for making the trip here. i personally am probably not the best, or even remotely near the best for giving advice about concept art. but if you start a sketchbook, i'd be happy to give some critiques if you want. g'luck with the journey!

MG - yooooOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! glad you're back! thx dude...i'm actually on a art schedule with certain things to study every weekday. unfortunately, SP's are the only thing i've kept up with, and i try to get one done every week. some better than others, but i'm learning with each one. st'life is an iRiver Clix, which happens to die on me every so often. but it makes a good paperweight/st'life. how you been? see you soon, dude.

    sooooooo...large sketchdump. enjoyez vous!

remember when doing sp's that you don't forget
all the head construction information you learned in
the previous years. i always forget that stuff when i'm
rendering, and 2 hours into it, i'm screwed. ha!

it's always a pleasure to see an artist grow in their
sketchbook. it's like our diary, except we don't write words,
    we draw pictures. :]

i'm ill right now, but i'll be getting better for sure. and it gives
me something to look forward to! how have you been?

keep the good work going and never quit! even if you're in
Africa!! that's the best time to draw!

mg - good call. i think i may have been thinking too much about color and not enough about planes with this last one. gotta work on popping my nose, which i haven't done so well ever yet. noses definitely need work. i need to do more still-lifes, which would help with that, i think. i'm doing well, working hard. i'm going to be going to spain soon, so pray for that if you get a chance. you're working hard man, keep it up. more imagination drawing! take care, dude, and thx for stopping by!

so...bunches of sketches, bunches of fun. currently reading "creative illustration" by Andrew Loomis...highly recommended.

Oh man, you're getting so good in so many areas I'm too lazy to praise you accordingly, hehe!

This is dope, man. Your nature-observations begin to become extremely beautiful! Also dig those conpositionstudies and hand-studies, and, well pretty much everything you put on paper!

The computer still needs more love, though Depth. man! Look at pantings from other artists ad look after the little tricks they use to produce it!

faust - honored by your presence, my friend. still working color, form, and things. i've recently been studying Sargent, getting some books from the library and copying the compos, as you can see. also reading through "Creative Illustration", by Loomis, which i HIGHLY recommend. need to do more studies, more st'lifes...ive had a soup bowl waiting for some time now, just need to put it up and do it. busyness, craziness, but i think i'm learning. any specific crits, with regards to painting (or anything else, for that matter)? anything that you think has helped you in creating depth, or just looking and doing lots of it? gonna travel that path anyway, just wondering if there's something i'm missing that i should look out for. thx for the visit; hope to see you again IRL, definitely on your thread...when you update it in march. what?...no sneak peek?

chOW wip...sPOW to come tomorrow. crits?
