    ion's sketchbook

    ballpoint pen on bristol

    After doing these sketches I realized how much I've lost my touch... I actually quit my job so I can make a run for an art career... I better get good reeeeally quick or I'll starve before I progress in this field.

    P.S.
    ...I quit my job as a restaruant manager for a very large franchise... HOOTERS! lol... hopefully I don't end up regreting it.

    I wouldn `t EVER quit a job...not a restaurant-managing job -_-... i like your sketches but i think you will regret it very fast... its VERY hard today to get a art-job from which you can pay your bills and buy your food. Art is often a breadless occupation. Sorry if this sounds harsh but thats just reality -_- (at least in my country) someone had to say it so why not me ?

    anyways i wish you good luck on your way. The sketches are looking promising.
    I like the perspectives.

    All I can say, and I am trying to be supportive here, is that fine looking women should never be left alone! I mean, you quit Hooters!? Haha, kidding, kidding.

    It's astounding the talent out there, good luck at finding a job. I thought I was a sound artist, but trust me when I tell you I can't score a job to save my life ( that's not totally true, but it's not easy). I wish you the best.
    Some more studies would help, I'm glad to see you're working hard at it. I'll be back to check in on you and help you as I can, if you need it!

    Hey ion,
    Great start man. Awsome. Ur figure drawings drive me crazy. I always wanted to draw like this. , got to work more on my drawings.

    The last update u've did seems cool, but theres a slight problem. His right tight is so long, it looks that it starts about the underarm.
    Maybe u havents notice. ;p

    Cool drawings dude. Keep it up.

    cool work man.. your coloring is getting better.. as for your color, id stay away from the hot pinks, it makes it look plasticie. Just open it up in Painter and put a digital Watercolor wash over it using like a burn unber..

    Good stuff keep postin..

    lol... if I had any idea what burnt unber was I'd do it! Keep in mind I'm not a painter or colorist... I'm just learning... completely self teaching! I didn't even know I had hot pink in the image... lol... digital watercolor? whats that? a tech? lol... thanks for the crit... but you've gotta talk to me like I know nothing about painting... cause I really don't .... please explain.

    Dam man... ur doin a greate job if ur doin it on ur own, right on..

    well lets see.. tall me what program ur using, photoshop or painter?

    Burn Unber is a dark brown.. what u can do if ur in PS. set the brush to multi and go over ur painting with opasity 20.. or just play around with it..
    what this does is unifys all the colors..then after that you can take it of multi and hit the highlights..
    here check this tut out..

    O_o

    hey jaggo

    u should do some of some more volume studies..

    when i draw i recognize all objects as volumes.. like cans boxes spheres muscles arms heads eyes.. between a circle and a square is just a small difference.. a circle has 360 corners.. a cube gots 4 .. add more corner in the suqare and u get a circle soon..

    i subdevide a sphere into -> hexagon -> octagon -> decagon -> dodecagon
    and so on until u have a perfect sphere.. the main importance is that u keep the 3 dimensions in all shapes and lines.. u can subdevide all voluminas into easy geometrie

    like -> http://www.barre.nom.fr/vtk/images/s...reframe-32.jpg

    and -> http://normalflora.org/02/apple_tease.jpg

    the wireframes u see make the volume appear.. all the lines are alligned and oriented in 3d space correct.. u have to take care about these ! VERY IMPORTANT -> wrong angle = wrong results -> bad perspective

    find an easy cubical setup for all voluminas*objects u want to draw -> no smooth courves just lines with hard angles.. a circle gots 360 line zoom in and u can see the angles.. zoom out and it looks just smooth

    when u do it simple ur head is able to understand the 3Dimensionality and orientation in 3Dobit space faster.. and u dont mess around with details u cant handle yet.. just step by step

    once u know the volume.. u can shade it easier because u just know how the volume u see is set up.. .. think 3D track ur lines in space*orbit to know which line dissapear and how much u should foreshorten the others
    use simple shapes to indicate the volume and orientation in 3Dorbit*space

    once u know the orientation and proportions u can add details.. all things need to be alligned CORRECT otherwise.. the results suck

    hope u understand what iam trying to say

    i love doing studies like that all the day
    in the last 5 days iam only drawing lil cylinders 250+ per paper sheet
    just to get a very accurate feeling for proportions orientation and circles in space
    iv done such stuff for cubes too.. faces.. nose.. eyes.. head shape.. jaw and chin.. cubes again ... legs arms.. rip cage.. just evrything.. hands feet not yet

    when u know about how to create 3D illusions and volumes.. u just need to observe and u will be able to draw just EVRYTHING.. (u can analyse objects volume orientation details proportions .. in NO TIME ))

    keep up !

    haha im posting before lookin at yer art.. saw the first post... I WORK AT HOOTERS... here in PA lol was funny. Anyways will edit this when I have something to say about ur art. brb lol

    Lookin real good man, one thing I wanna see u do in a final piece is get rid of the outlines. If you dont know how I would suggest studying some good final illustrations that arent too stylized.. Maybe just because I look at a hell of alot of art, I sortof know how to get rid of my outlines.... But I dunno, I still suck... Keep it up!

    Great stuff you have here man. I think the only crit that I can give you is that, from what I've seen from these sketches, you have very little variation in emotion. Out of 9 images with faces in them, 6-7 of them are either serious or a a slight variation on the serious face, except for one in which the person almost has a smirk on his face. In the screaming painting/sketch the man looks like he is screaming, but it seems stiff. Maybe adding more emphasis in the eyebrows/eye area would help. Also, there doesn't seem to be too much variety in your body/face types.
    Though really, these are just small critiques to an otherwise excellent sketchbook. Keep up the good work.
