    Anyone here live in CT?

Hey, do any of you guys live in CT? I moved here last April, but with work, haven't really gotten a chance to go out and do anything. All I know are the people I work with, and am interested in doing some sort of sketch group, 3D modelling thing, or some drawing sessions. I know there are some Art schools near Hartford, but I haven't really had the time to go out and look around the city at all.

I live in CT. There are some other people from Connecticut that posted on the local artists thread http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=21957

I go to the figure drawing group at University of Hartford in West Hartford. But there has been no sketch group or local conceptartist get together that I know of. I know there was talk of one but never happened. Maybe we can figure something out, I think that would be fun. Some other CT people post up

Yeah, it looked like there were a few model drawing classes going on (from reading the sketch group thread) Are those year round things that would still be going on now?

Also there was some mention of hitting up the goldroc diner and doing some drawings. that would be cool as well. Leaves it a little more open to draw whatever you want, not just people, but vehicles, buildings, big scary monsters with tentacles that end in eyeballs.....

Ive been most interested in working on some product design/perspective driven drawings, like most "concept" work. Do you know of any schools that offer those types of classes in any sort of audit program? that would rock.

Do you know of any scheduling info for those drawing sessions? I live right in West Hartford, so i don't think im too far from the university there (Is it the school thats off of Farmington Ave?)

Good to know there are some other people in the hartford area, I was starting to think this was the social blackhole of the Northeast

I dont actually live in the Hartford area, im more in the Waterbury area. Waterbury area doesnt seem to have much going on for drawing groups or figure drawings so I usually make the 45+ minute drive to Hartford area. Those figure drawing groups should be year-round, i know that university of hartford and the torrington group are year round. I already posted some info on the Hartford group at this link http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...drawing+groups

As for classes being offered on product design/perspective, that might be tough. I dont know any in Connecticut but I might be wrong. Someone else might know.

I might be up to starting a local sketch group, possibly at the goldroc diner. Well if you have anymore questions, ask away, I might be able to help or im sure someone else can.

    hi there!

I know we;ve talked about a CT sketch get-together at goldroc "some time maybe" a couple times in the past. Do you guys want to firm up those plans?

oracrest -- I'm also interested to hear how the US office of Firefly Studios is doing; I think I saw one 3d job posting last spring, but besides that and one panoramic photo of the office complex on the website, things seem awful quiet....

I work in Hartford, so I'm already there and available after 5:00 during the week but I don't mind driving home and then back again if more folks are free around 7-8 or something.

Haha! I took that panoramic photo. I don't know why they put it on the site though, makes the office seem quite boring. Well, the area kind of is, heh.

Things are going pretty well at the job. We are working on another project other than Stronghold, that will hopefully be out around the fall.

Other than work (which has been quite hectic at times lately), I don't really do anything in CT. I have been driving back "home" to MA most weekends to get my social fill.

I would definetly be down for setting up something. My work officially ends at 6, but I usually find myself there a lot later, heh. Unfortunately I don't get many opportunities to actually draw stuff at work, mostly just 3D and some photoshop. I was planning on trying to hit up a life drawing session this monday (tomorrow), but i can't seem to find any info about it other than the forums here. Anyone know exactly where this session happens?, I heard it's from 7-10, but again, don't know where to go, heh.

Even Goldroc sounds cool. That would be a more open type of atmosphere, and kind of give us all a chance to learn from each other and feed off each others style and whatnot (although I don't know that I have much to offer artistically outside the realm of 3D )

bwkeough - what exactly are you doing in Hartford? Have you been able to hit up any interesting museums and galleries in the city? (or anything for that matter, ha!) I have only actually been into hartford a few times. Went to the comedy club some, and went to a pretty nice coffee shop that had an art gallery downstairs (I think it was called xandau, or something like that). That would be a really nice place to meet up as well, but the whole parking situation will probably be more expensive than goldroc. Although, the better coffe might balance that out, i dunno. That place seemed "artsy" in a way.

oracrest- My day job is in Hartford (office drone in the accounting department of a truck leasing company) and I live in New Haven. I haven't done all that much in Hartford culture-wise; I've been to a couple of the Yale museums in New Haven and also the the quadrangle museums in Springfield (AWESOME permanent samurai exhibit there).

I would like to get in to a life-drawing class, but I don't think I can commit to a regular thing. The occasional get-together at Gold-Roc would be easier. It's also right off of I-84 and it looks like it has it's own parking lot (haven't been there myself).

4:30 is when my work-day should end, but Tuesdays and Wednesdays I'm usually on the clock until 5 or 6. In general, I'm pretty flexible. What do you think will work for you?

I'll post a link to here in the New England thread, there's probably other folks that haven't seen this.

Holy crow, Batman! There is life in this state!

I would live to get together with some of y'all, even though I've pretty much hung up the artist side of me (I've been trying to develop a freelance writing career, so that's where all my energy has been going of late).

If I manage to make it, I'll be the little long haired dude with the squirting daffodil on my lapel. Either that, ir I'll just run around the place shouting "Attica! Attica!" until someone notices.

See ya if I see ya.

alrighty then, 6:45-ish it is! I'll be there rain or shine, too. Right now they're calling for snow/sleet starting around rush hour, but they won't really know until about 15 minutes before it starts to fall.

I'll be the guy with a sketchbook, glasses, beard and needing a haircut. Some combination of these three (kinda/sorta) 8)

heh, right on then. Ill get there as soon as I can after work. I shouldn't have any problems getting there on time. Ive been to goldroc a few times before. They have some tables right at the front near the big windows. Ill try to get one of those tables it I get there first.

Um, I just got a haircut, so it's kinda short. And ill probably be wearing some baggy pants, and my black hoodie, so picture a gas attendant i guess, heh Looking forward to gettin some drawing done!

btw, whats everyones REAL name, mines Matt

Hey, yesterdays sketching went pretty well. Got to meet up with bwkeough, and get a good 3 hours of drawing in. Goldroc seems like a pretty good place to meet up at, a good amount of space, and it wasn't too busy while we were there, so we didn't feel guilty about nursing some coffee for 2 hours

hopefully we can make it more of a concrete weekly thing. Unfortunately I am not gonna be in CT next wednesday, so I won't be able to make it (not the best way to get a ball rolling, i know) but I hope some more of you guys get a chance to come up.

Im still down for any life drawinig sessions if anyone is attending those currently......

Yep! Last night was a good time. Even if the waiter with the Mr. T jewelry thought we were morons to have dinner with people we've never met before. I'm definitely interested in meeting again.

When I get home I'll scan in the sketches from last night.

How many people showed up last night?

Also we should maybe make a Connecticut thread in local artist groups subforum. I know there is a New England one but it would make more sense to have a CT only one since the rest of New England(Maine, MA, etc...) probably wont show up in Hartford. That way we can all talk to each other easily and also is the more approriate place then the lounge. Just a suggestion.

This sketch group thing sounds fun, have to try and make the next one.
