Here you go, super minimal Eric in action!

Great tutorial! It's mostly how I figured you did it, except I was wondering how you got that nice rough shading. Now I know!

Are you coming to Seattle? If so, are you looking for a roomie? If you're interested, I still owe you for your generous lodgings in San Fran.

Cookie: Thank you so much and thanks for the suggestion! I need to clean up a couple of steps but I will look into posting v 2.0 in the Members Content section

Sirio: Thank you so much, I'm glad you dug it ^_^

Joe: Thanks dude! Hugs to the Boston peeps for me!

ACRO: Thanks man! Um, th only character I can think of that I draw repeatedly would be... me. I'm a bit narcissistic I guess but I feel like I can emote the best when I am doing some sort of self portrait doodle. I haven't really developed many more consistent characters since college though, I think I've gotten caught up in techniques more than personality lately. Blame the design jobs.

Qitsune: Can I see the paper stuff you've done? I'm married to the pen tool in Illustrator (seriously, even Flash doesn't have the range of curves that Illo does) so I'm very curious to see how a PS-only version worked out for you!

Prophet: I'm really, really glad that you're enjoying this! I never know how the community here will react to "softer" stuff but so far it's been very positive Thanks so much for sharing that!

Emily: You're welcome!! See you in a month, holy crap! (No pun intended)

Ent: I know I thanked you before in your SB but I'm doing it here again - thank you for being so thorough and for the suggestions. You caught two areas where I was slowing things down and I will try to edit them out for v 2.0, but that will require more screengrabs and layout changes so I *might* just add some footnotes ^_~

Sepulveture: Just you wait, one day I will have you barfing rainbows! MWAHAHA!

Eric: Hey, no fair, you have facial hair to describe your contours!! For real though, that totally IS you. I want it on a T-shirt. Stat. See you in a month, roomie!

OK! So, I am making a pair of Christmas cards this year. One will be for naughty friends, one for nice friends and Grandmas. There will only be slight changes between the two cards for the sake of time, really just swapping out some obvious props, but huge thanks go out to Yumiko, Nonie, Eric and Emily G for help in the conception of St. Latrine (for the obvious naughty card):

"Naughty or Nice, You're Still Getting A Lump in your Stocking!"

joaKimArt: Thanks! I've got a busy month ahead so there will be more to come, this time with boobies (assuming there isn't something I missed in the NDA)

Renegade1: Thanks for coming out of the woodwork, I always appreciate the support and feedback ^_^

So, here's the better half to the Naughty Card. Both of them went to press today so let's cross our fingers that the colors aren't completely screwed up! $100 says everything comes out too yellow

well, I know you were looking for crits last we spoke, but I don't have any major complaint with anything They're both fun and playful, great mood, they feel very "quiet, late Christmas night". Despite her lack of legs, I can tell she's tip-toeing I know you're busy as hell with freelance already, but you really really ought to send some samples to some greeting card companies one of these days.

So if there were any changes I'd want to see: I prefer the tilt of the oval in the "naughty" version, but I like the tint you've given the hands in the "nice". I'm not sure green is the best choice on the poop ribbon, but I suppose that it matches the air freshener... I also like her better with no tongue tip, but otherwise I feel like it's not even nit-picking, I'd just be trying to find something to fix that isn't broken.

Fingers crossed about your printer, I hate doing that sort of thing through internet companies just because you can't really get proofs or give matched prints on small runs. A new screen/offset/digi-offset print shop just opened a block away from me, I'll let you know if they're any good once I get the opportunity to work with them. Also, I had good results with printpelican.com last time I made leave-behinds. I know you already sent these out, but for next time in case you're not happy with whoever you're working through currently.

Hehehe, love it. The smell aura for the poop adds a ton.

I love the little details that change between the two. I didn't even notice the air freshener or toilet paper beard at first.

    Can't wait to see you!

Nice one, poop is always funny.

If I had to say something, the one choice that I would have done is to draw her lower torso and legs getting cut off at the edge of the ellipse. That could put her more in the room, and add a bit of fun depth.

Also, damn you and your early xmas card!

Thank you for the crits guys - I will respond more in-depth when I have a chance, for now here's a game screen dump from a game I was the art lead for while I was at LeapFrog. It's the Backyardigans game for Clickstart and it taught me the joys of working with the wonders of 16 color sprites and 260x340 resolutions

Most of these were created in Illustrator first, then optimized in Photoshop. I designed the backgrounds, UI, characters (based off of Nick's style guides naturally).

    More actual art soon!

Haven't popped in here for quite some time .... fun stuff happening as always. I do like your naughty stuff a lot more than your nice stuff. Cute, happy animals are only okay be me when they're impaled, smeared, decapitated or used to paint a wall... Love the little papercut tut you have a few posts back, also like the piece you did there - the one in your avatar. Think it's one of your coolest by far.

These last few 16 colour super small ones are pretty interesting in terms of decisions made. Cool to see how you handled the limitations and restrictions and ended up with something visually interesting and good. The only thing bugging me there is the UI - you have this huge bar overhead, but it seems only half of it gets used in these? Does it come into action elsewhere? I would probably never have chosen pink for it, but it seems to work pretty well here. Also like the stage-effect in the last three, adds something theatrical to them.

Cool beans, keep up the good stuff Steph!
    cheers!

EDIT3: Hey good luck on the job, the foot and everything else. If we ever meet, lemme buy you a round or two. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to seeing more face-melting gorgeousness in this sb of yours!

geez didn't realize I haven't posted here for a quite a while (been looking but not posting for some reason);regardless, love what you've been showing! I'm getting to appreciate stylization more and more, so it's really nice seeing your work (love the gesture in everything). it's cool seeing your style grow as well, seems like it's come a really long way since last year or so. yea though just wanted to pop in and say that; must say one of my favorites lately has been this one, such great life in both characters. keep up the great work!

oh and I'm not sure if you read dinosaur comics at all, but I was catching up on ones I've missed and one of the guest issues reminded me of your paper cut out pieces, so I figured I'd share here ya go

Steph I've already told you this but I love those Xmas cards! They're awesome The naughty one is my fave.

I'm glad my insight on your tut was helpful, tho they were more doubts than crits actually! In any case, I learned a lot from watching your process so I'm happy I could give some love back at ya!

Also, regarding the plushie question you made in my SB, the tag is hand painted, I wouldn't have them made because they're pretty personalized and I don't really know how long will my plushie-making mood last

Thanks guys for the feedback, I will reply individually when I am not feeling so wiped! I just wanted to do a quickie dump, first doodle of the New Year and at Revelations!

This is the first of a monthly illustration project for me, I would like to do a self po' each month this year and perhaps compile them into my next Comic Con art book. This one is a little vague and fast, but it's me in any generic city from this winter, be it San Fran, Boston, Philly or Seattle. Weather was all the same across the boards!

Also! The character design book that my work is in is now available for pre-order! If you seriously want to pursue character design as a career then I cannot reccommend this book enough.

I'm not just saying this because I contributed to it, honestly. The author, Mike Mattesi, was my art director at Leap Frog and an endless source of inspiration to me while I was there. Clickie here to pre-order it!

Hey Steph! Thanks for dropping into my sb. Mucho appreciatado on the critso, spanglisho! heh but seriously though. Thanks! I'll look out for the Monsters Inc. book, maybe it's in the library. I do some shape silhouette sketching in my paper sketchbooks too but not too many of those have made it to rendering. I've been trying to figure out a way to bring the ZAP linework into my finished stuff too. The advice has been heeded...

    I'm bummed we didn't get to hang out more while in Seattle but I'm glad we finally spotted/recognized each other. Until next time I suppose. Or comic con! I think I got approved for the small press pav. Gotta get a room somewhere now ; _ ;

heh, I should have just sent you a pm. Whoops!
