I love that barfing cat!
The dancing girl papercut looks great too, I think some of the shadow effects on it are a bit too dark or too big tho. Still stellar work!

    Diphallia: Thanks just the same

Carni: Man, I wish you could! Especially since another client just flaked out on me!

Sve: Thanks so much! Unfortunately I can't print this particular piece, since it's a commission for a book and they own the printing rights. I am putting together a bunch of pieces to print by the end of the month though, so maybe you'll see one you like there? And I'm so glad you got the ribbon/wing reference, a lot of people completely missed it!

Ent: HOOOORF! (kitty-barf noise!) Thank you hon, I see what you mean about the shadows, maybe they're a little too burnt? I will lighten 'em up before the end of the week, I got an extension from the publisher. Mwahaha!

This is just another drive-by, but I was going to do this epic post-it series before my last day at work and give the whole grand mosaic of memories as a parting gift to my "inspiration". But the further I got into this, the more exhausted I became and I worried about taxing the friendship, so maybe it's time to just walk away from this lil' project.

Newbie to your wonderful SB here.

What a fantastic SB it is! Was a treat to look through, not to mention a surprisingly nice change from the usual seriousness around here... *cough*

Sorry for your loss. That picture is strangely disturbing, I do like it.

Love your kitties, too! I want more Post-It kitties, please.

Dave: Bleeeh, I've been a turd about answering my emails l lately! I haven't forgotten you, I am gonna hack away at my inbox this week

Hunter: Thank you! I'm glad you're finding my SB refreshing as opposed to obnoxious or out-of-place around here. There may not be any Post-it Kitties for a while I'm afraid though!

Ok, so here's the other half to the Butterfly Kid! I don't care for this one much I'm afraid - I was never happy with the composition and from that point on it prettymuch felt like a turd polishing session. I hate when I start a project off with a home run and the follow it up with a single, but deadlines are deadlines. Gah!

So, this looks like it for the next few weeks, I have a traveling adventure in my immediate future. Who knows, when I come in contact with a scanner again, I might have something more inspired to show

EDIT: If anyone has ordered an art book or print from me, I have not forgotten you! I will do my best to send out those orders before I leave for my vacation by the end of this week - I will update shortly with the status of things this week! Thank you so much for your patience and support!

i think the composition could be solved by bending her back more, putting the fin behind her arm. i'm not totally sure it would work though. the upper part of the pic is great.

Carni: Thanks for the feedback, I agree that the lower half is where things start getting weak. I did have the fin behind the arm for a little while but I found the tangent to be irritating. >_<

Just popping in to upload a few things I did for Leap Frog, now that they've cleared their street dates. Some characters, a couple of concept screens and monstarrs. Everyone loves monstarrs.

Oh yeah, that show I worked on at Soup 2 Nuts has aired! I did like 80% of the characters for the first 6 episodes - look closely in the BG to see me looking rather concerned about that meteor that just landed.

    Thanks for looking guys

Hey, you finally got glasses! Not only do they help you see, if you're a girl they make you ten times hotter. Glasses, short hair, stripes and nudity... that's a deadly combination!

Word Girl is pretty awesome. I spotted your butcher with the sausage ammo belt in that montage at the end! I love that guy.

    Have fun on your vacation!

    Moftah: Thank you!

Chuck, mate: Pat, thank you *so* much for that. It's very reassuring to know that my stuff isn't getting brushed aside as "cute" or too simple. Much love back atcha

character:BWAHAHAHA!! I forgot that you too know the fury of Animal Art Studio. My apologies for making your lives so miserable there I totally missed you in LA btw, but I didn't get to see half the people I wanted to because my plans kept changing and I had no car. You gonna be in Seattle?

Eric:Mwahaha, thanks hon ^_~ Though now I am so spoiled by clarity that I want to get contacts. $100 says I give myself pink eye within the first week of getting them. Glad you dug Word Girl, there are a few Butcher episodes on youtube if you wanna see ^_^

    donkeyslayer Oh my ^___^;;

    pagedown Hahaaa, thanks! Cummmmmbercuke?

    maxetormer Thanks dude!

Blaz Thank you so much! I've been influenced a lot by the old UPA stuff and also the book Cartoon Modern, you oughtta check it out if you remember the old toons

Ok, so I went away on vacation for a month and barely drew anything. AND I AM OK WITH THAT!!! Still, I whipped out a quick Halloween card to spam around the net. Gotta keep advertising, especially since I'm my own boss now. Freelance RULEZ.

I have a new set of holes in my head, see? I woulda put my glasses on there but I thought it would clutter things up too much.

    Thank you for looking guys

    Stephula! I love it!

I know what you mean about the face clutter. Every time I do a self portrait I'm struck by how much stuff I hang on my head. Hat, glasses, various bits of facial hair... I can do a recognizable self portrait without drawing any facial features whatsoever.

Ent: Thanks babe! Great job with your TD btw... not that I can tell which one is yours of course!

Eric: Dude. Show me that self po' you mentioned. I wanna see super minimal Eric in action!

Ok, so I wasn't sure of the best way to present this beast, so it looks like this page of my SB is going to be VERY STRETCHED. This is a tutorial I put together to show you how I do that paper thing. It's easier than I made it look and very seductive to do. There are prolly typos but I hope that everything is reading clear, legibility-wise and visually.

Enjoy, get good at the technique and put me to shame!

    cool man
i like the beggining of your sketchbook because you had character designs and drew the characters many times... i thought that was a great idea to have the character added to your arsenal of characters you can draw off the bat...
do you have a certain character you always draw or you have represent your style or you as a artist....

Great stuff! I had done my best to mimic the style and figure out how it was done (for fun and Xmas card) and I'm glad to see I wasn't too far off. My version is 100%PS tho, as I don't own Illustrator and Freehand's export options suck.
    Cool, thanks for the tut!

As much as i like work that scares me...i Enjoy work much more that can make me smile, you succeed at this rather easily. I'm quite interested in this sort of style at the moment, so by giving that tutorial you have helped me a lot. Thanks. Bye

Hey Steph awesome tutorial!! I have a couple of questions about it:
-Why do you do the irregular trimming so late on the process? Wouldn't it be easier doing it before applying the texture and cast shadow (directly to the flat shape)?
-I don't know if you're aware of this, but if you have a layer (let's say a texture you wanna apply) selected and you click right on the upper line of the little rectangle that represents a layer (the one with the shape you wanna add texture to) in the layers panel with the Alt key pressed, it applies only to that layer. If you DO happen to know this, why using the wand and erasing (page 3) method instead of this one that keeps the texture editable and lets you move it around?
Those are my doubts, it's been great seeing your process like this and I just wanted to know more about the thoughts that make you do things in a certain way
