    Athena 3055 - Help!

    Hey Guys -
Our office is having a thunderdome this week, and the theme is futuristic greek mythology. I opted for Athena - protector of Athens, goddess of wisdom, and assorted other awesomeness. Here's my thumbnail:

My problem is composition - I need something in the foreground to pull the viewer in. Also, I want 3 point perspective to imply power. She's meant to be standing in front of a futuristic Athens (the city she protects) with the Olive tree high up on a pedestal. She needs the helmet, round shield, owl, and spear - all tie into her assorted mythos. Future-wise, her shield is gonna be all laser-generated, and her arms are mechanical. I need to do something cool with the spear as well.

ANY HELP with how to pull this off would be greatly ,greatly appreciated.

    Thanks guys!

    Sparths need

    Hi

You could just move the elements arround. Put Athena in front of her city. This also infers she is between you and it and emphasises the protectorate thing. Im not keen on her head but its yor show.

Ive had a go at moving things
    See;-

    Hey Guys -
    Thanks for checking it out!
Denrik - Yeah, I need to really rock that spear head - It's a minor concern to me right now, but once I get the composition down, I'll move into those details like the spear, refining the arms, etc etc. Hopefully I'm headed in the right direction...

Rob - Hey man - I appreciate you playing around with the pic. I like her being bigger than the city to imply a greater sense of protection, but with your layout, her spear cuts the image right in half...maybe I can flip her..hmmm - oh btw, what is it you don't like about her head?
    cheers

Great pics, though I think you went a little to far with the muscles in the stomack(belly) The muscles sort of make her more male than female

That's actually armor - the greeks like having sculpted abs on their chest pieces. I guess Pilates really does work

    Athenas head

I think I wanted to see her in profile. It just fits my stereotye of a greek warrior. I suppose It's too much time spent in history books. And gazing at greek art.
Did you know that she wore her father Zeus's breastplate? Acciording to Homer.

Keep us posted and hope you win your challenge.

I think it would help out the composition if you changed the angle of the head. If you really look at it, it looks like she's staring at the ground like she found a nickle or something.

I think it would be great if you changed the direction of the face along with the rest of the bodies direction. So you would get an underside view of her jaw, and her hair flowing slightly backward while she's walking. It would look very intresting and appealing with some over head light source.
Plus it would also make her seem bigger and stronger than the fortress walls around her, rather than facing downward and away.

Think about it, she's a warrior, fears nothing. She walks with her head up and proud.

Yeah for sure. I've given her a more relaxed/confident contraposto, and tilted her head up. I'll post the new sketch later tonight. I also went full robotic with the character design. I wanted to break from the whole 'hot chick' thing.
