    Peter's sketchbook

Hi all I would like to share with you all my recent work, I have not been drawing for a long time, and my ideal dream is to become a concept artist of sorts. I hope you enjoy my drawings and leave me, much appriciated critiques

First image is supposed to portray Emma Watson, however I do not feel that it is a good representation. She looks kindof older in a way.

The second image is of Sarah Michell Gellar, I feel that I have managed to capture more of her essence than the one of Emma. However I do feel that the lips and nose are too small, making the image look kindof caricatureish.

The last image that I uploaded is an image of a Victoria secret modell, I'm partialy satisfied with this images. Feeling that i get the gesture however the shading makes her look kind of dirty rather than, well shaded

Thanks for all the critique ;D

I've got three pieces of advice for you.

1.) Use construction - right now your drawings do not feel completely solid, and it's not because of the rendering of the facial features, but rather your placement of said facial features. It feels as if the features are floating there instead of being attached to the skull. So yeah, draw a sphere and use some construction lines to help place the features better.
2.) Study the human figure - your third image shows me that you need more knowledge of the figure. Buy an anatomy book or download " Figure Drawing For All It's Worth" by Andrew Loomis and study up. At the same time you use your anatomy book you should being doing some actual figure studying from a live model or from photographs, and refer to your anatomy book to help understand everything better.
3.) Shading - I'm not sure, but it looks as if you are smudging. Smudging can be done well, but I don't see it done well that often. I think you should use the side of your pencil instead. And don't be afraid to go darker with your values. Contrast is what you need, a wide range of values makes the image more eye catching.

I hope you don't take my critique the wrong way.

    Hey Barskt!

I totally knew who that was your were drawing in the first image.

I agree with Dukitamoy with his hints. I also would suggest a book by Adrew Loomis called Head and Hands. If you read the first two chapters and apply it, you will grow leaps and bounds, I guarantee!

    Hi,

    welcome to CA

When I started my sketchbook here a couple months ago I tried to draw as you draw now - redraw photos or draw from imagination but with no real knowledge anatomy. A lot of people advised me then to learn basics first so I studied Loomis and Bridgeman books to learn anatomy and it really helped me.

So, as others wrote before, grab those books and draw from them, you will see that it's fun and you will improve a lot in no time
