    Hi!

Some studies plus a small sample of some of the work I've done as a game illustrator (all vectors!).

The vector stuff was done for a facebook game that sadly didn't get past the BETA stage due to delays.

    Thanks for viewing.

    Hey Dizon

glad to see your posts again !

    been sooooo long

    the landscape seems quite good

the drapery study is like unfinished no ?

it lacks some big force lines and contrast

    the portraits are pretty nice

congrats on your working on game

The drapery I chose was pretty hard lol. It would take me more time to really finish it but we only had a week for it so that's why I posted it already.

But to be honest I want to work on another study this time. I got tired of that one.

    Hi Dizon

Great updates I love the the vector approach, I'm getting into that too, I like the way it forces you to simplify shapes. the little illustrations are my favourite. That top landscape is gorgeous, it's a bit small though to see much.

The drapery study came out well, I'm sorry it wasn't that good a photo, i'm not surprised you got bored the other reference I found was much better. I've enjoyed doing the study, thanks for suggesting it.

Animal studies for the week, plus Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander! The latter is currently a WIP as I want to do something "artistic" with it. I will experiment and see what happens. After that I'll do Rooney Mara next.

those last studies are beautiful! the only flaw I see is that the wolf´s left eye is lower than the right one.

    Thanks for noticing! Missed that.

Yeah, eye alignments can be tricky sometimes.

This is the final version. Did some tweaks with the color plus defined the forms more. And made some minor corrections.

    I'll do Rooney Mara next.

I really like Lisbeth and the wolf. Despite the eye alignment thing on the wolf, you've really managed to capture the form well. The texture of the fur and the lighting of it all is also well conveyed. Good job

Aha! Good to have you back!

So the vector stuff is essentially work-related? I like the booger ninja especially. Nice colour picks on the Paris scene.

Love that last study, by the way. Those confident brush strokes. Great work, I can't seem to pull that off. It's the same with those animals. Some very strong value work there. The eyelids and the faint gloss on the monkey hair are spot on. Great sense of shape.
You somehow seem to be missing some midtones in the drapery study. Not quite sure, but the animals seem way more accurate.
I can see some faint textures shining through in most of your studies. You seem to be toning them down slightly. It's starting to work on Lisbeth's clothing though!

More studies plus a portrait I did for a friend.

I'm preparing myself for my upcoming training in matte painting that's why I've been doing these studies.

I love what you did with the SSG study! A fun transformation, and he's well rooted in the surroundings. I also like the contrast between some of the harder edges and soft transitions. The main difference with the reference seems to be the saturation or depth of the colours. I'd have to sample and check in Photoshop, but your image seems more muted.

Nice work on the job tests. Keep us posted on the outcome and their feedback! To me, the woods could use a stronger focal point (or perhaps they just requested an empty stage since it's matte?). The building you've placed on the cliff seems too large. also note how the 'bridges' you've placed in the distance have softer edges than the mountains.

Love those last studies. Great portrait too! Subtle stuff.

    Hey Dizon!

You are just steamrolling along o.O really busting out some great stuff, I adore the painting of the little girl, has so much life too it, although the shadow on the left side makes it seem flat in contrast to the light on the right, problem is I would have no idea how to suggest fixing that, if it even needs to be :/

    Great work though
    Crit for a crit!

Anthis- Thanks! Yeah I noticed that very saturated blue also. I'll try to fix that sometime! Also I got the job as well. I'm gonna start soon. Very excited.

Crane- Thanks for the crit! Yeah the shadow side is always tricky for me. And the photo I worked from wasn't the best quality also.

ezekrialase- Thank you for visiting. Glad you like some of my stuff.

Some studies, a robot and the last one is a sketch that I'm going to try to turn into a matte painting.

post 406: the girl is awesome , light in those posts are just great

the last two post reminds me of laputa . they seems form mind

crit: the grass brush strokes seems too apparent and they are not varied. The volume , though it's here, is not very effective (more contrast ? color temperature ?)

the overpainted photo (background painted ) seems working, will u continue working it ?

    good luck with your nexts

Wow! great updates The Noomi portrait is solid. I love the matte painting studies, a couple of them could do with the values being a bit darker from what I can see but otherwise they look great! What course will you be doing?

Zou: Thanks, man! Those are just quick sketches but the one with the floating city is for this matte painting I'm currently doing. Which you can see below.

Angel: Thank you! It's training for visual effects that's why I've been studying matte painting lately.

Update on my first real matte painting based on the sketch above. Surprisingly this is going in the right direction. I'm having a lot of fun with this.

Finally finished with this one. Included are some progress shots. Quite a learning experience overall and this is something I haven't done before. Which is a lot of photo work but also a lot of painting in a smaller scale.

CONGRATS dizon on this matte painting

it very convincing but , the right part (you set on shadow) is too much on shadow

the overall could be more worked but it's very good for a first shot

zou - Thanks for the crit. Yeah I did that to emphasize the light and contrast but I guess it was a bit too much. I'll be more careful next time.

These matte paintings are looking awesome! I think I agree that there's just a teensy bit of value issues. Perhaps de-saturating your paintings occasionally to check the contrast is all you need?

    Still all fabulous, solid work.

wow! stunning work The finished matte painting looks so cool, I love the teardrop shaped rocks surrounding it, nice finishing touch. the lighting is great, very convincing

Nice colour sketches too, and the texture balls, I might have to try them at some point.
