    hmmmmm

The pictures are really great, a lot of detail though. My eye is having a hard time finding the focal point of your drawings. You also break the laws of perspective in a type of way that seems to "work". the not so "straight" lines gives the pictures this sense of "Dream" All in all i really like them

    later,
    Maigo.

Tensai, I kept meaning to comment here... this is some wild stuff. Like your sensibilities in how you handle your colors. Cool stuff, so freakin' detailed, but it works.

Thanks very much for help me with my comic!
Always impressive to look at your stuff, all the details, it's awesome.
Maybe a little crit, I think it's more a question of personal taste, but sometimes the color compositions don't fit together very good and the light effects are a bit too digital looking. I can be wrong, so don't care too much about it and keep up the fabulous work!

    hisashiburi

It's been a while and like Jason predicted a lot of links were lost.
I managed to replace almost everything with attachments but urge everybody to do the same. Its a shame if you can't find your stuff anymore or if you have to resize and save for web every single entry you made...

Good news is the on-line gallery A Blue Chicken and I closed a deal recently where they will sell high quality gicléeprints of a selection of my cityscapes. The prints will be in different sizes but all on stretched and mounted canvas and come with certificates in a limited (numbered) series. I'm really happy with the opportunity and it's really nice to be featured in the gallery with other artists.

I did quite a lot of looser drawings, simpler and smaller stuff that I can draw out in a day or something.
Some are just for fun, some are for small assignments. Most of this stuff I already put in my sketchbook thread but thought I'd consolidate some of the more finished stuff in here.

Comments and crits as always appreciated.

hahaha im so glad i found your thread again tensai. I love this stuff so much it blows my mind. the great part is that your style seems to be developing alot from that first one. i can tell because you are becoming comfortable enough to add more and more variation within the drawings. whereas your first city here is repititious though still....amazing. keep up the awesomeness and keep on coloring them. congratulations!

oh i just thought of something...a cool and quick element you could add to a cityscape. have a couple spot lights shooting up in the sky, and i wonder how these would look as a daytime scene... it would take more coloring of individual things but i think it could look cool. and again kudos

    Hi Tensai.

The incredible detailed cityscapes are absaloutly amazing. The feeling i got when i first saw them was overwhelming, and i think you really capture the atmosphere of the city well.

And i think it's great you selling your art too, best of luck with that.

I love architecture, and I have been trying to sell some of my drawings, I still hop to someday, some of them are at the bottom of my old thread if you want to see

Wow! I really enjoy the busy architectural drawings here. Nice to see some fun effects in use like fisheye lens and ink splatters. The wobbley lines strangly enough works well for the buildings, I might just have to give that a go
Also enjoy that trainer there, could be a new fab!

    Rough Magazine Illustrations!!! Dec 07

It's been way too long since I've updated this thread, a shame especially after the nice comments..

shaoshao, Denysiuk - Thanks for stating those shoes are 'rockable', gotta like that. They are actually really comfortable, they arent as stiff as you would think, they have some bounce to them and the fitting and footbed are well designed (not by me, hehe). My wife was wearing them in Paris at a fashion show we went to and everybody was all over them. They are so expensive however (due to difficult production) that it's not such a big seller.

I designed a new construction, but can't show that yet because we are still in doubt if we're gonna produce them the way they are now, or change a few things.

koshime - I like the detail, mainly to try suggest some space. I found that you need to focus mostly with what to leave out though... Cheers man. Love what you're doing with your designs.

mbetteker - Thanks for the encouragement. Always nice to hear people think you're developing. I hope I am as much as I can.

Dile.exe - Thanks man. Hell yeah I continued posting. Just mostly in my sketchbook. I'm gonna try update this thread more though.

mbetteker2 - yeah, I'm working on a little series with both day and night versions of the same scapes. Should be finished next March...

Voodoochile - I wish I knew something about colour though man. It's nice to hear you appreciate it, but I feel I have no clue yet. Gotto skill up on that..
Love that work-through you posted in your book. Keep painting man.

    dhilipsomesh - Cheers man.

Hazaeon - Thanks, I'm always amazed how some of the old Japanese printmakers could prodce so mich atmosphere with such simple graphic means. Truly inspiring.

Bendragon - Glad you like them.

max xiantu - Wow I tried that myself but found it to busy to work against.. Glad you like though. See you later man.

Idiot Apathy - Come over any time you like bro. I don't have a sofa, nor space but I'm sure you'll enjoy Ueno parc and the homeless tents. I'd join you too. Seriously.

BOON - cheers, much love back

Alright, the new work. Well actually two months old. These were done for the singer of a Japanese pop/rock/boys band in a special about him in a luxury rock magazine here in Japan... I'm posting these now because after these were done, the band and the management really liked it and asked me to do their tour book. I'm finishing that up now and I'll post when it's out.

For these pages it was the first time to get together and I really thought they wanted me to do some gothic/poppy ornamental stuff. Their stylo and type of music is very far from my own and I thought they wanted me to fit in. I showed them some sketches and illustrations and said 'this is the sort of thing I can do' - which is what they liked. They wanted to have the rough stuff and they wanted to do something toally different from before. It was to be six full pages, five illustrations; one spread and four singles. Everything had to be cut out, drawn and composited in 2,5 days...

Before the photoshoot I drew a lot of thumbnails for poses etc. and during the shoot I was in the studio with scanner and laptop and sketching while downloading the photos from the photographer and doing rough composits right there. It was nice working like a sort of visual jam session with all the different peeps. And it was nice to do something totally different from the elaborate cityscapes - these all had to be done real quick and even though they're really simple I had to make a huge pile of failures before I got something I thought remotely worked.

So they're basic and rough and I still don't know what to think of them, but instead of thinking what I would have wanted to do different I decided to take those ideas for another project..

I know its not the standard concept art / realistic painting material, but would love to hear some thoughts.

Chingwa - Thanks, glad you like them man. Yeah, loads of very female guys over here. Small frame, everything well taken care off (as in nails, hair, skin)... Like I said, not my style but definitely nice to work for.

    egerie - cheers!!

I posted these over in my sketchbook but thought it might be cool to put these in here as well. Some process shots; pre-photo shoot thumbs, sketches for ill, and final composits.
