UPDATED DEC 09 2007 since APRIL '06... I am almost ashamed to keep these INCREDIBLY OLD postings up, but I think it will be effective in displaying progress. Please continue to the end of this book to view my recent work and critique me, by all means. I need some serious motivation from you all.



Ey, Thought it was about time for me to post my sketches for some input from everyone. If I suck let, me know why, If I have potential, let me know why, If you want to kick my ass, I'll give you my home address.
I really need to improve in many aspects, so if you could PLEASE give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Lately I've been trying to be faster and looser with my sketches, I used to take them too seriously. I really need to do a life drawing every day, and definitely work on anatomy. So please enjoy anyway. Thanks

i just... i like the shading and the mood u have in ur pics.. especially in the first one O_OOO°°

advice : get some anatomy books * loomis or bourne hogarth *

and try practicing some 3Dness... i mean.. drawing cubes and cylinders * easiest created 3d geometrie on paper "
only when u allign things u see in the right way * perspective and vanishing point* u can draw like the pro artists here *grettings to ya all pro artists out here**
spend some time in drawing cubes and in simplifying objects u see

how to simplify : take a look at objects around u and subdevide them into : cubes and : cylinders

then try around with foreshortening and change the fanishing points * u do that with collapsing lines*

that is really the kind of thing I was hoping to hear when I posted this stuff. I have been drawing off and on almost my whole life, but lately I realized that I love it, and want to do it every day, however I also noticed that I have never studied any techniques or basics of perspectives, shapes, anatomy. I've just been making it up as I go along. I recently ordered "anatomy for the artist," by sarah simblet, which I haven't recieved yet, and I plan on getting many others to work through. hopefully the ones you spoke of,

This sounds like something I should definitely be doing, but I'm not sure I understand what you mean by collapsing lines. I'm completely new to drawing 3d, so if you or any one could fill me in on how I could do this. It would be awesome.

paralell lines *non-collapsing lines* are drawn like -> | |

collapsing lines are like -> / | or | \ and / \ <- this could be a simple road

or when u stand in front of a skyscraper

when u stand in the middle of that road... at the point u are standing at

the street is maybe 2meters wide... when u look in front u at the end of the road.. it seems that the road is much smaler far back there.. but when u go there .. the street is as wide as u were standing before
we cant draw 3d on a 2d paper :> we have to create kinda illusion

back to the street... things next to u are big.. far back they are small..
take ur hand and hold it in front of ur eye.. its big isnt it ?.. now holt it far back.. .. now it appears smaller.. but its the same hand

this is one aspect about perspective ... to indicate that distance of ... fall-off
of objects in distance can be indicated by : foreshortening and collapsing lines

both parts *foreshortening and the stuff about collapsing lines * dunno how i should call it otherwise* have some "how to" rules u have to be aware of

::: practice some cubes and cylinders ..maybe draw some arrangements

::: rotate your cubes and see how ur lines and ankles behave when u rotate

foreshortening : lines getting longer and shorter when u rotate them in distance * hold ur pen in front of ur eye.. u may see like this -> . or -> O <-
now rotate ur pen until u see his sideview -> ---- <- bedween theses views u have 88 other views u can draw because of 90° degree rotation* the lines u see on top and bottom *silhouette* are just getting shorter or should i say they are getting : fore-shortened :>


this is where is starts getting more complex

drawing and roate cubes in in diffrent vanishing points is a good exercise to learn that * know that and u can draw EVRYTHING .. guaranteee ? sure .. 100%*

Well, I decided to keep this thing going, I haven't posted in a very long time, about a year, but I also havent been keeping up on drawing as much as I wish I've been. Hopefully if I continue with posting It will get me off my ass to start drawing alot more. I could use all the advice I can get. I plan on going to the academy soon, if I rob a total of 40,000 old ladies, and I need to definitely brush up (no pun intended). Enjoy if u will.

The only reason I am posting these is so I can get advice and be on an actual course as opposed to just drawing random shit that pops in my head, so PLEASE leave me some feedback as to where I should be concentrating my time and effort, I do know however, that I need alot of work on anatomy, which i sporatically do every once in awhile. Thanks for taking a chance and checking my stuff out. It may not be much, but it means alot to me. i'ma total nerd

Actually dude I think your anatomy is great, its just your proportions really. You would really benefit by doing mannequins of the people your drawing before drawing them (if you dont already do them) and making sure everythigns all proportionate then. Really the biggest problem you have is that your heads are too big for the bodies, the hand and eye studies are quite good though, nice stuff.

Your proportions and anatomy certainly need work, but you already know that. So go do it!

Draw from life. Draw a lot. Keep drawing until your hands bleed. There isn't a quick-fix way to get better. Of course, don't stop drawing things that randomly pop in your head just because you need to improve (hell, everyone can stand some improvement). That's the kind of thing that makes drawing fun, you know? Being a of a professional level is no good if you don't get any satisfation from what you do.

Just keep it up, fella.

EDIT: I hope this isn't too harsh. You have a lot of nice things going on, but you said you were posting here for feedback, so here it is.

Frog - Thank you for your comments, i do tend to make heads a little "swollen", but nothing I can't work out. I also have a problem with proportionate hands and feet. I will concetrate on that. Thanks for the help.

Ryn-you made me cry that was so harsh, just kidding. I really appreciate the honest feedback, thanks for takin the time out to post it. I do also like compliments every once in awhile, but compliments dont make me motivated to work harder to get better. Peace
