I recycled an old sketch to use for the Clay Sisk motel project using their motel stationary paper



I've been playing around with infrared photography.



chlorophyll, like in these normally dark leaves, shows up as a strong white in near-infrared


it's hard to read this photo, but the tree in the center here is a purple plum. the leaves are very, very dark, but they're white when using a near-infrared filter. the sky also turns dark unless it's overcast. Barely visible clouds are easier to see as well.


in near-infrared a clear sky is dark like this without after-tweaking


here's a comparison.

infrared in grayscale (at top) versus visible light in grayscale (...bottom)


the dark plum looks almost like a negative, but it's not. here's the visible (bottom) full color along with what an actual negative would look like (at top) just as a reminder. notice that it's quite different from the infrared up above.


all photos taken with a sony dsc-h1 and an opteka 58mm R72 720nm infrared filter (no, it didn't turn anyone's clothes to saran wrap, but i didn't really try either)

Here’s my latest belly button. I did this a few months back, but I never photographed the piece. I know, it’s an odd subject, but the body is a curious thing.

I think I’m going to start a series consisting of isolated areas of the body. At the very least, it’ll be good practice.

I couldn’t sleep, so I did some test runs. pastel and charcoal on ink-stained hot press watercolor paper. small, around 5×4 or so each

You have a really good sketchbook, I have it subscribed for a long time now even if the first time I am posting here.
I like to see a varied sketchbook.
Those last studies look good, good luck with that series.
Pastel over watercolour is great, I used to do a lot of that...

for the sake of practice I’ve been working on this here and there for a few weeks. this is in black prismacolor with alcohol to wash it out and then some more cp - touched up in painter


character sketch - still need to add some text and some other stuff, but I'm not all that jazzed about it anyhow. if curious, she does enjoy the breeze

So, it's been a year. And, funny enough, Peter, you had it half-right. I did go off and get married.

I have still been drawing, and I've picked up some work here and there, but for the most part I have been doing a LOT of photography.

OK. I haven't posted or done much drawing for two years. About the same time I last posted I started a wedding photography business -- things have been excellent in the photography dept, but illustration stopped cold. Now I've put my studio back together post-move and I'm going to get back on the bike. I figured it made sense to start with a figure in a forgiving medium.
