I finnally got myself a scanner (thanks dad! ). Here is some stuff:

These are done like 2 weeks ago.




This is my first try with pencil coloring using PRISMACOLOR pencils. They just rock!


A failed skin tone flesh study I did yesterday with some sucky pencils... not the prismas.


Some info, these sketches took from 5 to 25 minutes, and are mostly done using pens and some black very thin (0.1 ; 0.3) markers... and done in an A4 size white paper, from my personal sketchbooks. The stuff I do at school is too large to scan. I'll have to get a camera first.

Yo sup man you finally posted some pics, great job. Most of the crits you'll get will be probably stuff you know you'll need to learn. Anatomy, Lighting, and Rendering, same stuff I'm still working on, but the more practice you do the better you'll get. Try drawing a picture from a grayscale photo, that will help you a bit in knowing values. Hey keep posting I'll keep a watch for your progression.

Heya Mr. Sok N Wett, thanks for your patience. The scanner was all I needed to start posting my stuff... so this is the beginning of some very awful eye-aches for some of you folks out there And needless to say, I'm prepared for the severe demoralizing critiques I hopefully some people will give me, cause I'm prepared to do my best to become better.

Now for my "daily" sketch posting:

- The next drawing is one of the final concepts for a work from a design class I have, based on the Warhammer Universe. I intended it to look as most "Art Noveau" as possible (Alphonse Mucha inspired) still not at his quality though. It was done 2 weeks ago:



- 35 minute model session at school TODAY. Here are some of the drawings. Each page took me like 10 minutes to do. As you can see I had to modify the levels a bit in the first image cause it was too "invisible" to see clearly... but I still have lots of scanning practice to do. Need to FORCE myself to work with the basic forms drawings before the details:





- Here are some older stuff from my sketchbooks. 1st pair of images show Spanish Conquistador concepts I drew for a CGTalk.com "competition". At least I learned how to UVW unwrap in Maya 5 The green pen drawings are LIVE 10 minute drawing sessions of my grandfather and uncle. Lots of proportion errors I think. The last scan is a black ink sketch i did and that I felt it should be posted here.

Nice portrait, did you use it from a photo reference or from a mirror? Keep at it, and remember to find ways to train your eyes and hands to work together, so you can get a better proportional picture, with time it'll get better, and faster.

Another pen lover! Things are looking good man. You do alot of figure drawing, which is awesome. I wish I was able to do that stuff at my School.

hey man, when you're drawing with a pen, try and use fewer lines. it'll look alot more confident, cleaner, and appealing.

Inpho: Thanks for your support? Do you have some techniques in using the pen that you can share with me? About the stuff I do in skill, I'm kinda pissed caase I dont have a digital camera, and the stuff done at school is mainly done on large A3 sizes, stuff which I cant scan. This last Fridays workshop is one I'm proud of, hopefully I'll be able to show you the stuff soon enough.

Jetpack42: Thanks for the advice I'll try to keep those tips in mind when I use the pen.

Now for todays shet:

Instead of doing another self portrait, I made a live portrait of my cousin.... his head looks a little skewed to the right... my mistake. It's amazing how you notice errors in your computer screen then in the original piece:



This was a photo reference practice.:



Both of these are done with very thin 0.1 pencil, very light 2h or something like that. My last self portrait was done with pencil too.

well dude in the pen works like
Mike told ya try do the neccesary lines only
its very difficult at first times but
im sure they will look better
for example a circle instead of doing several
lines over it try make a circle with one line only
it will look more secure and better

keep up the life drawings i see an improvement from
your slef portarit and forward it seems its
working for you

well keep practicing and never give up
just be constant and reach your goals

Gabo: Yes I had that same problem with pencil. Still have it but in minor.. but with a pen (or ink) stuff needs to be more planned out I think. Or else it will get messy... Thanks for the comments!



I was trying to make studies of some of the characters in Velazquez's "Las Meninas".... bad proportions (VELAZQUEZ face OMG!) and some very awful pen rendering. maybe bad day (problems with Carmen)...

FRIDAY 3 hour drawing session at school. some shit...

1st bunch are 1 minute sketches. These were done with a 0.3 black ink marker. "Rapidografo". the biggest and more detailed sketch in the 3rd image lasted 10 minutes.





This one is also 10 minutes. 3b graphite pencil



These 2 that follow are 30 minutes each. With pencil as well. I'm kinda annoyed at the amount of time it took me to do the first face portrait. well i guess if i keep practicing more faces it will get better.

great sketches loco. I like the heavy handed line work for the value, it's important to push the values and get the full range. I'm going to agree with Gabo about the cotours tho. If you keep the chaotic lines for values the image will pop out, but if the edge of the form is vague the form breaks down.

Keep pushing it dude, you're well on your way.

great stuff gringo, the real main problem in your art is some kind of spacial+pespective error, its like you change the perspecive a few in the midle of your +10min skethces.

the portraits are good, but your nosees aren't xactly a 3d ones, is like you want to give them "volume" with the shadow and highligth, but there are originaly 2D thinked..., you also need work more in the hair.

keep up the good work gringo.
