FuT: Right on brothah'! That guy's my man!! ;p Thank homez

    qstom: Gracias!

Hurricane: Yeah, that's what I get for waiting till the last minute... I drew John Silver, altered Jim Hawkins, and scanned and colored all 6 characters in 3 hours... so I just messed with the Doc in PS, cause I didn't have the time to actually alter him on paper, oh well
I think in 2 years I'll be doing something totally different, but we'll see. Thanks man, glad you're liking it. Peace duuuuuude.

    That is awesome!
I agree that gauche on taint is cool.
Since you have the tainted paper and white. Have you ever done trois crayon? Someone of your caliber could do some serious work with that.

Damn dude, that battle nun is sahweet! nice! Would love to see more finished color work like that from you. These latest character designs are great, really enjoyed seeing the progress too. Those flat colors are a tease though, heheh, can't wait to see them tightened up, :-)

damn, shame on me for not checking back sooner, I've been trying to figure out how to do something similar to your blue pencil/graphite/multiply PS method, thanks!

Lovely work as always. Your ladies (Psylocke and Battle Nun) are clean, well-rendered and filled with attitude, but they don't have the same life and motion of your more cartoony Treasure Island characters.

I just wanted to say great work man! I love your drawing style!
Your Treasure Island characters are especially impressive, and full of personality. I have one question about them, though-- Did Long John have a peg leg in the story? I always thought he was completely leg-less on that one side.

Also, thanks for that PS tutorial with Psylocke, I found it really helpfull!

Woooohooooo!! I have internet again! I'm sane once more!!

faux: Thank you so very much, I'll have to check out those trois crayons.

Chandan: Why thank you. I've been rippin' through page after page... all of which have been for work, so I can't show them... fun huh? Punjabis are hotness in a bottle... seriously.

MIKECORRIERO: Thanks a lot. That means a lot coming from you. I've been diggin' on your stuff for quite some time now.

feeesh: Why thank you. I have some issues with, but I'd rather work on new pictures than go back and noodle old ones. Not sure if I'll get around to that Treasure Island line up, but we'll see. Thanks again

bwkeough: Thank you. I agree... I'm working more on bringing that same life to the more realistic stuff... all in good time I guess. I'm still learning. But I'll get there one day, right to the top... or something.

Reilly: I'm glad that tut was helpful, and thank you much! I'm glad you dig the work. As to John's leg, in the book it's cut off at the hip, I just pulled the pant leg down cause it looked silly having it bunched up super high like the book said. Artistic liscence for design purposes, heh heh.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, this is so anticlimactic, cause after all that time I'm only posting one image, cause I can't show 98% of what I've been working on (it's all for work), and I haven't scanned the other 2%...

So here are a couple still frames from Underworld, cause Kate is oh so gorgeous:

Graphite, White Prismacolor pencil, White Gouache.
Yeah, that's it... I feel like a minute man... sorry

But I have given my website a facelift, so head over to www.ArtDL.com and check it out... it should all be completed and posted in the next few days, just gotta work out some naming issues

oh man, this stuff is REALLY nice, i love the concepts, they really encompass the characters. if i were to give one crit, it would be that the colored versions seem like they could use some richer colors; the palette you're using is nice but its very dulled down, maybe just pop one or two of those out with some more intense colors and i think they'd be ready to go...or maybe its just a matter of doing that sort of thing eventually with their environments. awesome stuff, looking forward to seeing more. also, those two portrait studies are super nice and clean.

That's what sucks about work work. You have to ask permission to show your stuff. And if it Rocketh hard? All the more likely they don't want anybody to see it and rip it off until later. You'll have to come over for show and tell dude.

Heh, just realized I'd never seen the first page of this thread...

    Thanks for that!

BTW: Awsome work. I'll have to come visit you at Starbucks someday and watch you draw.

    Lightbulb

Great stuff. I love the character designs - the costumes and facial expressions are excellent. Agreed that the doctor does seem too far off balance - his ankle should be in line with the centre of his head in order for him to seem stable, I think.

    Stuff with Things

gasmask: Thank you very much. I don't want everyone in the industry, just enough to live comfortably while I make cool pictures

cburt: Thank you thank you. I guess I'm a bit of a fan of muted tones, but perhaps I could've punched them up more... good points, thanks

Voltmeter: Naaaaaate!! How about you stop by Peet's coffee on S. Lake sometime, and we can shoot the shit ;p But yeah, we should both do some show and tell, and I mean that in the cleanest way possible

hurricane: Thanks man, I've been eyeing your work too... goooooood stuff.

Isric: Heh heh, I'm just glad you could stop by. I've been a fan of your work for years now, so your comments mean a lot to me, seriously. Muchas gracias amigo!!

    L. Scott Knight: Everyone should relive Jabberwocky at least once a year Don't mention it.

MoP: Yeah, Doc is gonna face plant, and if I wan't so lazy, I'd fix it, but what's done is done... Onwards and upwards! I say! Heh heh thanks ;p
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, I actually had time to do a few pages today between stuff for work.

This is my warmup page, where I chose to focus briefly of hands and foreshortening:

And here are a couple pages of this character for this story that I'm working on, for which I will not get into detail... yet

Okay, that's it for today. Nothing much, so pretty crap sketches, but there's something there too ;p Peace

Nice work, man! That character looks cool-- love the Hammer Pants!
Did you have a model for those hands? It would be sort of wierd to just draw hands if you had a model, but you drew in details that I wouldn't even think to draw if I were just drawing out of my head.
Anyway, whatever you use it looks good, so keep it up!

    boredom sketch

thirdeye: Hey thanks, I had fun doing thos hands.

hopeless shade: Wow, thanks. It always gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to know I inspired somebody Tum Tums ruuuuuule!

FuT: Yes sir!! Thank you sir!!

cateaic: Wuuuuurd. I'm working on her still... trying to figure out an illustration (full illustration, not just character pic). Thanks, I'm tickled you're diggin' her.

Sok N. Wett: Thanks bro. Hopefully I'll be on the role with updates, we'll see what work allows for.

Voltmeter: /me flings shit at Nate.

Reilly: Thank you. No, I didn't have a model. Those were just out of my head. I have to test my memory and imagination sometimes... well all the time I guess

fukifino: Hellz yes! I'm whole and back on a role!! I hope....

    Rusty: Yes! *bows. Gracias Muchacho!

behemot5: Thank you. I don't use direct reference, unless specified. Generally, if there's something I can't seem to picture in my head, I'll just pour through the reference I have, then go back to drawing, but I don't copy anything directly, unless, like I said, specified... like Kate ;p

    Bojee: Thank youuuuuuu.
    -----------------------------------------------------------

Okay, this is just a sketch I did of the girl from the last update. It was really just a sketch done out of boredom and a desire to explore a bit with Photoshop... Playing with lighting etc.... I know, it's only one image... oh well. It's all I had time for tonight

    This is where it started:

And this is where it ended up:

Okay, I'll try and update a little more often... more to come tomorrow... I think.

it's pretty cool seeing you start to work more in a more painterly style (even if it is a quickie). You know I dig your work Dan and I know you know what's up with anatomy, but in this one it seems like your proportions and foreshortening were allot closer to being accurate in the initial sketch and you lost it when you started adding detail. Yes, update more, love seeing your work
