incredible anatomy and shading, man... do you find that your ability to capture light and dark so smoothly comes more from pencil control or awareness of the actual variations in light? i'm having a tough time with shading lately, i've always blended too much..

the past few monster drawings have kinda been in preparation (not entirely, but sort of) for this pic.
lame background story
Thorthulus Hol the Horrific Slayer of Methenyl was on his way home from a big night out, when his hatchback drifted into the path of an oncoming bus, possibly due to the one too many strawberry dackery’s consumed.

His one comfort that night was to know that all 25 passengers on the bus died on impact.
Yet unfortunately he was paralysed from the waist down.

Today, Thorthulus is happily married to Gerburulis’zhoghh of Metrvil’poi’loph, since their controversial gay marriage in the bohemian centre of the world, Amsterdam.

Thorthulus enjoys lactating and salivating into glasses, and then sipping the sweetness of his own digestive and urinogenital juices slowly while watching the sun rise.

thanks archipelago yeah im no master at it yet but as long as i try to apply the basics eg. making them look like they might attach to a bone and stuff, i try.
amarryth a mixture of both, practice and observation from life....a good combo i think, altho im not as good as i want to be at it, i think if you stay with working on those things u will improve your shading rapidly...its really the shape that matters anyways and u need the shading to define that form a bit more...

sweet man! I think that you may be defining the planes a bit too much in your faces, maybe you should hint at them more like you do with you musculature? Anyway, are you planning on doing any more bigger works like those anatomy/SP works that you did earlier on? because I think its something that your really good at compositionaly.

Your stuff is really amazing! Wish I was this good at your age!

My only comment is that your anatomy of the body is amazingly realistic, but you end up stylizing the faces some, especially the eyes. That bothers me a little, since they become kind of cartoonish in the faces on realistic bodies. Don't take this as a negative necessarily. I think your ability to cartoon and portray character types is really good!
