    UT2K4 ECE vehicle designs

    Hey guys

I am still alive! Finally have a little something to show. A pittance of concept.

I was able to take a break from my normal concepting duties here at Epic and crank out these vehicles for UT2k4 Editors Choice Edition. Had about a day each on these things and really tried to keep them in-line with the tournament vehicles that already existed.

Kevin "Rorshach" Johnstone took these designs and had these vehicles modelled and in-game by the end of the week. It was a fast and furious process........but alot of fun.

Just thought I would toss them out there. Hopefully I will have more to show when some of these games I am working on get released!

    later guys.

Nice work Hawkprey! I like those designs a lot. The shock tank look a little "weak" from the back but still kickass.
Nice to see you posting again man.

Such a pleasure to see these things right off the production floor. Lessee, I LOVE the fans on the top flyer guy. I was going to point out that the drawing of the truck-thingy didn't look too tough or "armored" but the model came across chunky enough to give me the feeling of a "tankish" vehicle. One thing I might say is the gun on the truck could maybe have been explored more for a mildly more interesting design? Other than these TINY things, great stuff man. I do think these are a nice revision to the pre-existing vehicles. Lucky you, no complaints here! Awesome!

ya Kress.................I do think these designs are fairly "basic" in some respects. The tough part on these was getting a design that fit specifically the gameplay that the designer came up with. I figured the modeller could pimp things out on his own just as long as I had the parts all in the right places. Time was really a factor.

    For instance..........the flyer thing....

-had to have rotating fans that looked decent from the 3rd person view and didnt obstruct the vehicle
-had to have a ball turret that provided the gunner a clear view 360 degrees
-had to be able to land somehow without landing gear and not obstructing the ball turret
-had to have rocket launchers on the sides that could pivot down to shoot ground objects.

I know it sounds easy, but I did at least 10 iterations before we came up with the placement of things that would work.

Had to pick my battles with these things because of time.

OH and biggest of all! I really wanted these vehicles to fit with the current tournament vehicles. Didnt want to do something all crazy and have them look out of place compared with whats already in the game.

Hey Jay, great to hear from ya, those are some solid designs. I especially like the control surfaces on the nose of that large flyer. Glad you're still kickin' BTW are the first pass pages rendered in SWIFT?

Great designs! I like how you've still added your own ideas over the UT2004 style and put mud-guards on the eight wheeler shocktank. It sets it apart from the other vehicle designs enough to make me want to jump in it first, but still stay true to the style.

Great work Hawkprey. The lines in all of your vehicles always seem to have a nice flow to them...I can really appreciate your mechanical designs and their functionality. You got any more? 8)

    hey thanks guys

I know they are not super rad blazing badass concepts.......but I thought I would show some "down in the trenches-pressed for time" kinda concept stuff. Glad you find it interesting. I hesitated to even show it.

Hey Kev! Good to see you around here. I actually modelled these in MAX and rendered them out. Then I used the 'find edges' filter in photoshop to get that line around them. Love that filter!

Andy....and everyone....Epic is always looking for talented people. Send your resumes in. Cant promise anything, but it never hurts to get your stuff in.
