I need help trying to get this pose right. She's supposed to be sitting on the bed contemplating to herself. It's my first time drawing this sort of thing and I am working without a reference so I am unsure regarding the specifics of her anatomy. I am trying for a clearly healthy looking woman with a decent amount of meat on her bones sitting on her bed relaxing.

Also, I am trying to work out a more dynamic angle. I know there are a lot of serious flaws such as one leg being shorter than the other, but this is a first draft of the pose.

I don't do enough invention. For my sketching I do gesture studies from mags, photo books, freeze-frame dvds, comics...the other day I was caught flat-footed with nothing to ref at the doctor's office so I made these up and really enjoyed it!

Information on How To Draw Hands From The Mind

    Hey,

I was working on this particular character a few months ago and figured it might be helpful to someone here about how to draw hands from
your mind. This one is specifically about how a hand looks when gripping a weapon at this angle.

ALso, I have some other works here if anyone wanted to check it out:

There are 4 steps to this...The Sketch phase, breaking the hand down to a simply cubic form, smooth the hand with flesh, and ready to begin color.

First break the hand down to these squarish shapes to understand what elements makes up a hand.

Now here are the steps that show how to take those elements, and turn it in 3D space together.

    Ready for color.

Not sure if that helps give an idea how to break hand shapes
down to figure out how it looks at certain angles. Even this
isn't perfect, but I thought I would share it.

    Cheers!

I'm new to the site and posted this in its own thread but am really having a hard time conceiving it at the moment so i'll post it here to as I'm rather confused.

I'm currently studying the human anatomy and its movements. However I'm having an extremely hard time understanding the movement of the pelvis. I understand how to draw the movement I just don't understand why it works the way it does. For example I know when the human body bends its side to the right the pelvis moves up on the right hand side. However my mind has trouble comprehending this action, I would think at first thought that when the human body bends to the right the pelvis would lower on the right hand side. Could someone please explain this to me if possible, its truly driving me insane. I'm guessing it has something to do with the bodies center of gravity or that the pelvis would crush into the leg.

    thanks!

Awesome hand tutorial! I was actually having trouble with the hands on this pose.

This thread is awesome too, just what I needed.

Don't ask me what he's doing....I have no idea. Doing a dork-dance or something.

I like the way Cory did his studies up there.
The one set-back I have with studies is I make them far too neat and organised than they really need to be, but Cory shows off how they can be done fast (or seemingly fast) whilst maintaining the forms of all the body parts.

    Inspiring! TO THE SKETCH-MOBILE!

    okay hello everyone,
so i signed up here only for this lovely thread. been sitting latest hours just reading all the comments and i learned and understand alot of new things and it really just gaved me a little extra push of motivation.

so i managed to sketch up some poses after lunch here at work. ive become better at anatomy latest 6 months~ after really trying to study anatomy more and using posemaniac daily, plus using my friends to do some live posing for me :p

so give me all you got, im eager to learn and improve
and oh ye, first time i actually tried on drawing someone pushing something heavy x)

and also this is something i drew without reference, a drawing that im currently working on, and i know there are mistakes, and any help how to fix them would be greatly appreciated

    Here's one...only one...that's all i got =(

I usually don't draw from my head any more. I used to all the time. I was inspired by Michael Turner, David Finch, and many others in the comic book industry. Here's a sneaky sample (ball point pen and water color):
