I like the overall concept. You should try to bring out the focus areas like the face and hands for example by giving them more detail. Also, the tail is the same value and colors as the parts closer to the front, making it look a bit flat. Same with its left elbow and thigh. I assume this is a wip, so you'll probably put a background where all that brown is around it. That will help bring out the subject a lot more. I would also push the values, especially on the armor. The darks need to be darker, and the highlights are pretty dull.

hey ninja, with the additions of the cool, well painted armor yours just might beat mine, but i think mine has been seen shopping around some cool weapons stores. Id be on the look out if i were you. seriously though this painting is rocking. The only thing i want to see is some decoration on the armor. Or something to spruce it up a bit. is the armor metal or some kind of ceramic or plastic, or wood, or leather? or jello? be on the lookout for my newly updated shebeast.

Th latest update is looking good. I still have trouble seperating a few limbs from other limbs, though. Push the shading/highlighting even more.

That is, when you get a new tablet. That has got to suck. How did it break?

I hate to say this, this late into the project, but your lighting is off in several areas. I was playing around with this image and there was a large amount of shadows and things I had to fix. i think you actually forgot that there is a light on the right side in some areas because your shading is opposite of it.

I hope you don't mind me doing this but i kinda changed your piece a little bit and added more suitable (I think) lighting. I stuck a bright light in the background and a dull light in the foreground. I also kinda muted the tail colors a bit. Although i didn't really finish anything I started because i'm really hungry right now lol

    Anywho, here it is:

    Thx cthomp.

Wafflehouseninja, you probably should know that i think your concept is very good, line work is nice, and untill i actually played around with it i thought it had a very good, solid, start on coloring.

Technical difficulties plague everyone, don't worry about it. I have been drawing my ass off for the last 3 years (drew from like 5 yrs old - 11 yrs old, then stopped then started again 3 years ago).

Believe me I've had pieces 300 times more horrible. It took me like a year after I started drawing again to actually start shading, having taken the "I wanna draw cartoons" route for most of my drawing life, and I would never have even dreamed of drawing with two light sources lol.

All I can tell you is keep going. If you really hate doing something, like doing studies or drawing from reference (like me ), chances are thats what you really need to work on and you should do it whenever possible.

Also, I don't know if you do this already, but start noticing how things are in the real world. Maybe if you are already comfortable with things like structure focus on other things like light and shadow.

    G'luck
