nude studies, weird stuff, and sick rabbits 7/23/04

metaphysiks: hey thanks, you are right i had lots offun with the last page. im thinking about finishing it up someday but i like the overall look of it just the way it is.

Jeff Jaws: alright ill try to keep going for sure. its unbelievable, there are so many talented artists here, its u guys that inspire me to draw so more. I gotta get my ass crackin' with this thread!!

liam.c: yea i was using domaindlx for the most of the pics, and apparently my bandwith had exceeded, so im using photobucket now. hopefully it will work out for the better.

now for some artwork! i have several different sketchbooks im working on. this particular peice is from my toned-recycled paper sketchbook. i used guache with this one. this is an older sketch

more quick old fun stuff from pshop. i had no pencil sketch underneath, just went right into pshop and sketched away. my values were too light so i adjusted the contrast levels. i will probably redo it someday or another.

these are some anatomy studies. i went ballzout again and added some crazy strokes, marks, and hatchings, to make the composition more interesting. i used makers.

heres a more recent study of a cute chick with a beer gut from life. it was actually a short pose. i reworked the original and worked on some values and rendered it a lil more. this was on 11x14 bristol paper

here some new sik and twisted stuff that i did. normally i dont do this type of thing, but it seems fun to just mess around with ideas from your head and let loose. its a good stress reliever i think. I will probably do more of these in the near future. i also added text which i think, personally, looks pretty decent

thats it for now i will be back with more fun stuff!! please drop by and say hello or whatever

great stuff! nitty and gritty, just the way i like it. looks like you threw everthing under the sun at these pages, diffenently got some stuff working for you. its all great stuff, im personally feeling the tonal paper with the color pencil(?) with the extreme line work.

thank you for sharing, keep it coming!

bizarre: thanks a bunch, my style changes depending on my mood, medium, time of day.

endregan: yea i guess that would be an appropriate way of describing my style, sort of semi-graffiti esque. i dont do any graffiti, but i respect the art form, i sometimes incorporate some graffiti elements just to unify the composition. alot of the music i listen to also somewhat plays a factor in terms of my drawing style.

prostate sunrise: thanks man! i like stuff nitty and gritty!! yea with the toned paper stuff i messed around with pencil, guache, marker some pen work etc. i gotta do more stuff in that sketchbook of mine, i havent touched it as of late.

MIKECORRIERO: more thnx. ill def. try to keep this thread up, there so many good sketchbooks out there!!

now for some more random sketches. these are some quick figure studies, about 5 minutes. i pushed some values for more contrast.

    quick studies with pen

    more with pen

    messing around with design elements

    more pen work

    more fun stuff

    quick stuff done in photoshop

    doodling around with pencil/marker

anatomy studies done on illustration board

heres a jazz inspired piece. done with some charlie parker and thelonius monk cd cover refs. ill color it someday.

hmm, okay i think thats it for now. ill be back with somemore. take it easy fellas!

Crunch: whuts up man! thanks for the kind words. color can be mind boggling at times, for me at least.

scottg: sup! thanks for the comments. i have a tendency to try different mediums and mixing them up to get different visual effects, thats just my modus op, but my weapon of choice is still the almighty pencil.

heres another fun speed painting i did. i could work on it somemore but that defeats the purpose of a quick sketch. anyways the more i work on something the more i nitpick, so it was better of being left as is, otherwise i probably would have spent another hour on the damn thing. this was originally in b/w but i tweaked the colors to get a warm grey tone, and i used some cool greys for the bg.

spok: hey mans thanks for dropping by! i like afros for some reason, they are stylish. heh heh. yea that peice with the green haired girl was fun, i unified the whole thing with some design elements, and different hatche marks and such.

i got some zany characters on tonal paper right herrr. i used ball point, and some marker. im gonna knock out more of these guys, these are fun to do!

questions, comments, concerns, are always appreciated!!

jetpack42: whats happening man? thanks for droppin by my 'low reply thread', anyways, yea that chick i drew from life was really smokin' in reality she was fun to observe, she had nice contours and beautiful folds, it was to bad she was dykadelic, she had some hairy pit action too, which sucked bad. hmm come to think of it, theres actually a high percentage of hairy chicks that pose at my school.

okee, changing gears now, i got some more fun and zany character designs on the way. heres a nasty slug creature, comments questions, concerns are always appreciated!

xpose: is your lil sister hot? nahh jus jokin' lol, thnx for dropping by man i appreciate it.

prostate sunrise: i appreciate very much! im gonna rock it some more!

van:thanks man! glad you found my thread, keep checking back for more stuff!

heres a speed paint i did today, kinda looks like ass, im not very fond of it. im going to do a pencil drawing based on this one soon.

heres a random weird spur of the moment speed paint, this is more painterly and experimental using photo ref. i actually did this a while back last semester. i had some left over acrylic paints and they were sitting inside my airtight palatte smelling like funk, so i decided to use them on some scrap illustration board. im prolly gonna rehash this concept and turn it into a pencil drawing and later color it in ps. everything is pretty funked up on this one.

this is sort of a wip. but i dont want to work on it n e more. got frustrated with the whole damn thing so i adjusted the lightness, i dont know why. looks weird, but better than how it looked before. imo.

some great stuff in here. I too got a graphitti feel from your work, especially the earlier posts, but you've already addressed that. I think my favorite pieces are the mixed media ones. they have lots of interesting stuff going on. lots of the life drawings rock, but I think my favorite are the quicker ones. I don't mind when you go back and add stuff to the negative space, but are you going back and adding outlines to the figures too? some of the figures have really strong outlines that could work if you wanted to color them and add crazy background elements, but the strong outlines can take away from the drawing if it's just the figures. anyway, you've got some good things going on, so keep at it.

finnally got off my slacker ass and updated my dsb. been glued to the tv set watching the olypmics womans beach volleyball and womans gymnastics. very skilled woman competing. big ups to kerri walsh and her partner misty may for winning gold. i digress...

prostate sunrise: thnx for droppin by man. loved your thunderdome entry.
Slash: sup slash? appreciate it very very much man. cheers to you!!
Pichuerca: thnx man, ill keep postin.
steak-tron: whats up man? big fan of your thread, thanks for checking out my dsb, i appreciate it a hecka of a lot.

Whut up elboy: some of the lifedrawing stuff I did were using a very light 2h pencil. I felt that I couldn’t feel the form in its entireity so I went back and rehashed some of them with a darker outline(hb pencil) just to accentuate the form. This is something Ive been doing in the past cause usually the poses are short, around 5 minutes. So whenever I have the free time I throw in some dark values to fill in some of the negative space and just to make certain areas go…. pop. I get what you are trying to say, the strong outlines can take away from the drawing, I was going for the design look.. Anyhoo the background elements are thrown in as a result of my “going with the flow” if you will. , its definitely part of my personality showing through in my works Its something that I cant stray away from as its just part of my approach of things. Hmmm I appreciate your taking the time to write some comments. I will most definitely keep this in mind….

Changing gears now…. got some sketches that have been sleeping in my book for a while.

heres a quick sketch i did in like 10 minutes, very loose, spontaneous, spur of the moment, free drawing if u will.

i later on rehashed that drawing, and got something like this...

thats it folks, stay tuned for more of my sketches.

Wow first time I went through your thread, some amazing art in here! Your mixed media are great.. What I really LOVE are the ball point and colored pencils on the toned paper. But every drawing you have is strong, and you never waste space, thats for sure.

On a side note, I watched the womens beach volleyball, and your right it was great. Kerri and Misty did a good job!

Anyways, keep posting, youve just inspired me some more!

Very cool sketchbook! I'll be checking in here regularly. I love the inks and the fact that you're not bashful about experimenting with color. Myself, on the other hand, has a big problem with that

    Great stuff!
