Fly a Kite

Soo... I'm starting a personal experiment for some original idea that comes from three colors, and as a result, I drew a mermaid kite girl. The black is there to show where I'd normally put the nose, mouth, etc. I dunno, at this point into the WIP it started to look weird. Also, the head seems especially large, even for a teen/child, but I guess it's okay if the drawing is a bit cartoonish. But still... Is there an huge empty spot?? Are all the kites being red and pink too boring?? Should breasts be added? Is the hair blowing too much?? GAAAAAAAHH.

So uh... yeah. Any critiques?

Hey Burriloom!

You have a pretty huge idea in your mind, haha.
Try to break it down into smaller steps instead of breaking into everything at once.

You have a colorsheme in my mind for the future painting which looks quite good.
But before you can add your colors you need to get sure about everything else in the painting.

I would break the whole process down into these points:
- Do at least 20 thumbnails considering this topic. They need to be very loose (each one shouldn't take you much longer than 2 minutes) and then pick the one you like the most
- Make a solid drawing out of your chosen thumbnail. Get everything into place, make sure the anatomy is right, ... We can help you out at this point, so don't rush cause this is the most important step
- Start painting! Now you have a very solid drawing where you can build your painting on top.

With this steps (which are, at least in my opinion, quite good when it comes to such a complex topic) it will be much easier for you to end up with a sweet painting.
Even though it's the harder way.
