That's sweet uncle!
uughhh so behind this week!! but i'll try to wind up with something..the competition this time is so intimidating D:
i'm going for a ronin-esque asian cybernetically enhanced-corporate assassin turned rogue
@uncle : your works are so impressive! can i ask you how do you obtain that nice 3d- esque effect in the background of the last version of your wip? :0
~KJK~ Your guy is awesome

Update. Two different options and a good exercise for my value studies.

Holy Basil everything is awesome on this thread! Good work guys, i'll try to keep up...
For my outlaw, i went more for the "three card monty" style grifter. The petty thief, not the one man army. I'm not so psyched on the facial expression in the middle, but I was hoping to hear some feedback on it!
Hopefully i'll get it done on time....

Hoping this is a step in the right direction!
(I just realized the tether lines i had made on the gem are invisible now, but assume they are there)

Been awhile since I posted! Here's my current progress~
Seriously, so many fantastic entries for this one, I'm completely blown away:
@Claudio Grassi, super awesome pose. He has so much character already. I'm excited to see the finished piece!
@The Fez, goddamn it man. Just.. goddamn it. Amazing.
@Baranha, yours are my favourite sketches so far, she's beautiful. I love her already! I think the 3rd girl is my favourite.
@kliest, your loose sketching style is so great. The parrot is the best
@tsad, those colours are gorgeous man, I love the composition.
@BozoTheClown, I think 3, 5 and 6 are my favourite thumbnails
@sozo, your concept is so detailed, so many different components to the design! It looks awesome
@ardentsideburns, I feel a bit intimidated to by the sheer amount of entries! I love your sketch style and the idea, there's a great balance in your character's proportions.
@Lionsketch, I'm a sucker for simple design, I can't wait to see more progress!

Here is my pencil work:
WIP Update of Thumb 1.
His story (simplified)
His name is Augustus, former CEO of the Mining Corporation Decrohn. Augustus, losing everything after the Corporate war of 3451 and believed to be dead, sot refuge on the small ghost colony that he use to over see. After a bout with depression and a drinking problem he began leading pirate raids on the neighboring corporate systems that were responsible for the lose of his company and the central government. Now only known by the Name Caesar, a name he once garnished from his former employees, he now embraces with the symbolic shoulder throw.
Thanks

@DarkLogik -Holy shit. Story-weaver, didn't even need the text post.
@~KJK~ your one pixel lines are just inspiring. Those fine details and line control are utterly incredible. The only thing thats currently losing me is the crescent moon cloth under his crotch, something about it is unsettling to me. maybe its solidarity? or that it doesn't necessarily read as being attached to his outfit, and not part of the background.

@Adrian I like the little dude just chillin on her shoulder!
Just Photoshop and a Wacom. Simple round brush with shape dynamics turned on, thats it. No tricks. The secret to getting nice curves and lines is the same as drawing or painting traditionally, the arcs come from the arm, not the wrist. Use your whole arm to draw a line.
Quick sketch! He's a bit drunk, hence the off-balance position
Any critiques are welcome![]()
Hello CA here is my wip for the CHOW I decided to go with a desert sniper or maybe a heavy anti-hovertank destroyer

I'm only in the thumbnail stage of my initial idea but Im having problems with the design of a civilian spaceship in the background where the pirate and the bomb will eventually go.
I'm going to change the leg into a bionic one to fit the brief and give him some sort of weapon.

Based on your description and WIP, I feel like you are leaning too much toward a "future soldier" concept, units that you would see many of. Don't let that idea influence your design. Keep it to a unique individual.
@Adrian: I love the idea and the little robot! One thing you really need to pay attention to, though, is the natural balance of the human body. The body will shift depending on where the weight is being distributed. Look up a reference for the pose.

Been giving this a little time here and there throughout the week. Here's:
-fleshing out the helmet/face mask ideas (25/30 mins)
-some initial roughs (30 mins)
-sketch laying out color/design ideas (45/50 mins)
-WIP of the illustration so far (10/15 mins)
~KJK~ - Really cool design and that gun kicks ass, I hope you get this to the poll.
Adrian - Nice start, good lines and lots of details with the mechanical bits.
Darklogik - Lovely pose and expression.
Update on mine.
Some more progress! Really playing with the lighting as I go along. Still got to finish her lower half.

Here is WIP:
Woooow, everyones look amazing! D: I tried to get mine to look a bit better, but I'm totally lost on it. Keeps getting muddyI think this is the final unless anyone has any suggestions?
Balac, The Space Space rebel.
Due to his incredible wealth and the large army of rebels he leads, there is no reason for Balac to fight his own battles - however his infamous lust for violence places him in the middle of many battles, wielding his hammer and cracking skulls.
Balac lost his right leg to an alien warlord, whos skull is now attached to Balacs armour.
"The damed alien bit my leg off! He got me, but I tore the bastards head off. Look at that." - Balac.
You're pretty sick, Balac.
WIP Update. Almost time fore color and polish.

@DarkLogik, Something you did with the shading on his left leg messed with the foreshortening a bit IMO
