    Gasman's Gear
    Deadline: Sunday, February 17

"The Gasman has no face, the gasman has no fear..."

Life is harsh- there's been a minor apocalyptic event, and while humanity hasn't succumbed to mass chaos, it may well have leaned a bit too far in the opposite direction. Laws and lawmakers have become rigid in the extreme, and as always, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Those who don't agree and do it loudly are quietly removed by the Gasman. He's no longer quite human, having been turned more machine than man from the emotional toll of the job that he does and the invasive gear and toxic gas cocktail he wears.

Your task is to design the gear. Any time, any place is free game. Try not to step into ChOW-land please.

    Brief:
    1. Design and draw the Gasman's Gear.
    2. That's it... now draw!

I'll kick it off with some quick sketches for the mask. Feedback is welcome, of course.

I think theyre great, but the best one for 'use' would probably be the top right. "Faceless" doesn't necessarily describe the other ones. I do rather like your style. Really interesting, and creepy almost.

@MrFrenik, Love your style. I think the ones on the right read best as gas masks.
Here's some rough ideas: some masks, 2 guns and a backpack.

    Feedback is welcome too

I most certainly could use practice with Industrial Design. I was trying to go for more traditional looking masks, but with a twist. I wish I had more time to do concepts right now, but here is something in case I don't end up getting back to this. Cheers!

This is gonna turn out to be a good one with all the participation going on.

Worked on some quick gun silhouettes, but looking at some of the other ones here, mine feel a bit uninspired and too rectilinear. Need to throw some circles up in that shit.

Hey, welcome Lukas! Those are great. The grass hopper's a great edition, ha. I don't know how much we have to follow the "faceless" part of the description ( I'm sure pixel could answer that though), but if it's mandatory then I think we all need to be careful to make the gasman faceless. Hard thing to do; I've struggled with it for sure. Also, is that pencil? If not, then I'm gonna need you to gimme a link for that brush, cause uh, that would be the best digital brush for a pencil I've ever seen.

My WIP for his suit. Comments/crits/GTFO's are welcome.

Joe, in your sketches, you have one where there's a bag over someone's head that looks like all the air's been sucked out of it. Is that how your gasman will take care of his victims? Cause if so, that's fucking brutal as hell, ha.

Finals thread is up. Absolutely fantastic work guys! A general note: I know gas masks are fun, but you need the rest of the gear as well!

    Some crits:

MrFrenik- I'm loving the insect-oid look you've started with the mask. I feel like you're loosing some of that feel as you go further down the body. Part of that I think is because the head is so inhuman, but the rest of the body would fall under "perfect-human" category to me in terms of proportion, silhouette etc. Remember, he's been royally messed up mentally and chemically- I think adding some insect characteristics on both the larger and smaller scale of the whole set would help bring that out. Warp him up a bit, mess up the rather generic below neck and give that body suit some character!

Joe777k7: I really like the move to cyclops you're making. I like where the bottom-most head silhouette on the last page at the right is going.

LucasN, AdrianNagorski, AeonPheonix, DPFX, Janus: Nice start- I can't say too, too much without seeing a little more.

Pixie Trick Are you talking about out of those three on the bottom right (of the thumnails) The 1st one? That looks most like a cyclops cause it has one eye gaurd thingy. Or the one with the triangle face guard in the middle with tubes coming out of him?
    Thanks!!!

The triangle face one. The proportions feel the most unique to me, though I think the thinner detail lines leading from the triangle hold more promise as a design note than the horns to tell you the truth.

Hey people, just a quick reminder to go vote in the last round #227 here in IDW. Still open for the next couple days, but there are only a handful of votes in and it's all tied up right now. There were only 2 of us in the final round, it's Aliens vs. Predators, and the other participant as well as myself are among the few voters as well as the only ones to leave feedback for each other.

If you read this, go vote for your favorite entry and take a moment to give us some feedback if you can! Keep IDW alive! OK I'm done, back to drawing

Thanks for all the inspiration in this post. You are all amazingly talented. You got me inspired to at least get a concept done. Here's a quick sketch, certainly can't finish anything by tomorrow.
