    Chow #317 :: Mother Nature's Child

    Character of the Week #317
    Mother Nature's Child
    Deadline - Sunday, February 17 10PM GMT

It is said that Mother Nature is the one and only ruler of the planet Earth. At times she can be severely cruel and people seldom see her good side. But Mother Nature has kept a secret from the people of the world; a child. Said to be a myth, some people say they have seen the child in such places as an open field or lush green hills, but have no proof. A child that ever ages, but has been spotted throughout the years.

This week we would like you to design Mother Natures Child.

    The Guidelines:
    • Must be humanoid.
    • The child must be between 8-12 years of age.
    • Can be male or female
    • We want the design to correlate with nature.

    The Rules
    • Finals must be posted in the finals thread before the deadline
    • Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
    • At least 3/4 of the character must be visible
    • Sketches or rushed artwork will not be accepted into the poll
    • At least two wips posted in the finals thread
    • Background is optional
    • Have fun!

But I'll try to make a character that's new and original XD
Maybe if I think of what mother nature would look like and design her offspring...

dammit i think i and jader glader had the same idea concept wise XD (lil girl with long flowing hair) i hope they won't end up too similar!
the idea is to give her something that resembles a part of every living species.. i also want to give her some modern civilization stuff like a hat and a couple of headphones meaning that she is fond of humanity and admires them ,as opposed to her mother who is often in conflict with it.

anyways it's super sketched, don't kill me guys XD

Remember the focus of this challenge is to design the child. Your current sketch strays too far from that by having the mother and child combined. Also remember the age range, 8-12.

I went camping by the Suwannee River the other day and decided to base mine there. cypress trees, limestone, saw palmettos, spanish moss and turtles!

Note: Don't use moss as a pillow in real life, you'll get hella chiggers and that ain't fun. :c

Man, you guys work fast! I decided to start with some colour and do some quick thumbs. I remember being in the Ferens art gallery in Hull last summer (aah, summer), and sketched this sculpture of a child stretching... it would make a good reference for the first idea... if I could find it! Anyway, if I can't, I'd like to do something serious, dealing with life or death.

Rbeek, lovely rendering, nice touch with the owl too.

Sushy, cool ideas, I do like the one with the water, but also like the swing...

Playing to figure how I want things. I want to experiment with colors a bit more than usual so thinking big flowery field with all sorts of color.

But dunno still just roughly testing things. Need to work out the figure and make it smoother with nicer action.

So here I was thinking I'd be all clever and shiz, and make the "Child of Mother Nature" as a spiritual successor to the classical "Mother Nature", in that instead of protecting earth, I'd have her protecting the universe. Even thought up of a cool toy for her; a windmill/bubble-wand that vomits rainbows, and forms bubble-like stars, and has a black-hole at the center making everything (except the character) moving around it.

    .
...And then I realized, you couldn't possibly see this on an "open field" or "lush green hills".
    .
    .
    .
edit: Can they be metaphorical hills?

Grabbing this one by the horns.

Hmmm... She's too old. Need to drop her about 5 years in age, I think.

Half earthling and half mother goddess, she is partly in our world and partly ethereal - spreading spring and a rampant joy tinged with primordial terror as she goes.

@Eph: Im glad you caught yourself before you got too far. The child can still be a creator, just not of the universe. It is mother nature's offspring so just relate her creation to natural earthly things. However, this does not mean she is a creator of "life," for example; she does not create creatures or people.
