    Character of the Week #318
    The Battlefield Butcher

    Deadline - Sunday, February 24 10PM GMT

There are tales that have been passed down for generations of mythical beings that exist in the world. One of these myths is of a soldier that is drawn into
this world from the smell of blood and the agony of war. He is known as the The Battlefield Butcher. Towering above the average soldier, 7 feet tall, and
eyes burning with rage, the Battlefield Butcher is feared by all who confront him. Unable to hurt or injure him, the average soldier is no match for the
Battlefield Butcher and has only to await their death and become his next trophy.

This week we would like you to design the The Battlefield Butcher.

    The Guidelines:
    • Must be human male
    • Can be any time period (Example: Ancient Rome, Medieval, WW II)
    • Think about what his "trophies" might be

    The Rules
    • Finals must be posted in the finals thread before the deadline
    • Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
    • At least 3/4 of the character must be visible
    • Sketches or rushed artwork will not be accepted into the poll
    • At least two wips posted with your final in the finals thread
    • Background is optional
    • Have fun!

Nice! For some reason I'm reminded of Frazetta's Death Dealer by this brief. Still, I'll have to make time and go a different route!

This CHoW is awesome. I hope, I have the time to fiddle a bit with it. I don't think I'll ever get something together that can pass as a final Character but we'll see

@ ~KJK~: Your Butcher looks awesome. Even if a bit too dead already

    Battlefield Victorian Gothic Butcher

First two thoughts on Battlefield Butcher: Vampire D and Sleepy Hollow (Tim Burton's Headless Horseman).
So I decided on a Victorian Gothic Battlefield Butcher. For some reason he's starting to develop into a fancy Jack the Ripper.
He needed a horse... because of reasons...

    Hey guys

Messing around with a few ideas, started with a old father-timey dude but he wasn't impressive at all, looked like one of the ones that should be being butched! Then starting to think about maybe a real primal/primitive guy, I'm trying for as elemental as a human could get, sort of... It made more sense in my head until I started to put it in actual words! Tossing between bear or sabertooth, leaning towards bear.

@ardentsideburns: lol I think this is a fun idea. Though I'm not too sure about all the floating eyeballs around him. Maybe just stick with him having them as visible trophies attached to him or somthing? Your call on that, I just feel like they are a distraction in areas. Also, are those hands attached to rods or something?(the things behind him)

@Havok Reed: hmmmmm i liked the floaty eyes thing, it was also my idea for the trophies, i'll see if i can make them less invasive or come up with a better concept. As for what he has behind him ,they're supposed to be swords planted in his back,i'll make it clearer as i go on don't worry XD

This is an intriguing CHOW . I will participate in it.

I have a couple ideas i wanna fling but two stand out in my mind.

These are the two ideas i came up with , although still sketches , I'll try and see what I can do.

    Good luck to everyone.

P.S : First ideea seems to be what I'm aiming for - Indian warrior butcher that slays mercenaries/skirmishes at night , chopping their heads off and as trophies collecting Phalanges or scalps. This is my vision though. You can agree or not.

Well yea, I got that they were his trophies I really like the idea, it makes sense. Keep rolling with that, but I'm only suggesting to maybe think of another way to show what he does with them when he collects them. If you can't figure out another way, then no worries, just keep going with what you got.

This is off topic, but, have you every played Terraria? There are flying demon eyeballs in it that are annoying little bastards and there is a giant eyeball boss. It's a super fun game.

Ohhhhh I see it now. I thought that he had like poles with hands that he also used to poke out people's eyes with, lol. Maybe have a couple blades continuing by coming out of his chest too.

Matias: I think the primitive guy looks better and at first I thought it was a wolf head but whatever it is you're doing I like it. Sabertooth could be interesting because of the tusks but that might be overdoing it, so I vote yes on the Bear idea, it matches the primal idea too.

Rostas: I thought of the Indian warrior too because of the scalps but I'm always worried about portraying them because I can never figure out which Indian tribe to use or would do that. There would be a lot of research on my part. But I say go for it! You're the first one with that idea so I say grab that bull by the horns and ride 'em!

    First off some comments:

@ PixelTuner: I like how you combine the modern age with that nasty peace of metal your Butcher is swinging. Also his Bulkyness fits perfectly in my opinion. Your first draft is like 100 times more refined that my drawing after a few hours of messing around... I wonder how his trophies will turn out

@ Paperhead: Well your linework is interesting. Take away some eyes, add a few horns and *whoop* you've got an interesting character going. Keep up the good ideas in that one. Also neat trophy collecting there.

@ Mark Tarrisse: I simply love how polished the first metal parts are. I hope to be able to refine my drawings that well. As for the rest of the character I have to say that his ugly face creates a feeling of repulsion. I think that's a good thing and clearly what you aimed for

@ Spellsword95: Your Butcher looks awesome. Simple as that. I excited to see more WIPs!

@ delightful_piffle: Hehe, that's a different approach on the whole thing. I like the Idea. I would never have imagined a Battlefield Butcher like this. Good look on finishing that one.

@ Rustveld: Pretty much what I had in mind at first. The cleaver, the beard and his stature. I kept the cleaver and went for a more mad bastard. Your version almost looks like a friend of mine.

@ Havok Reed: I'm reading the latest Abercrombie book right now and Your design reminds me of one of those savage brute Northmen. I want to see more about that one!

@ NickyBeats: Neat Ideas.Though the chain-headless-type may not fulfill my taste of a Butcher enough. He seems too much crafted by a third person or even a mass-product. But maybe that's just me. The samurai-type Idea could end up quite awesome though.

@ nE0-n1nja: You may have produced a mutant but I really like him. Please stick to the idea and bring it out some more.

@ ardentsideburns: Clearly the most innovative Idea in the whole thread yet. Absolutely awesome. I don't mind that the "flying eye" trophy thing is a bit out of hand. Although I must say that I really don't like his collection of swords in his back I think your WIP is by far my favourite all around as of now.

@ matias: I concur with you on the old man theory of him more being one of the "butchered". I'm thrilled though to see more of the other beast-human approach.

@ Rostas: In my imagination that seven feet tall Indian Butcher that crouches in a frog-like position could be pretty kick-ass.

Don't take my critics too heavy. I'm quite a newbie on the whole digital (or moreso the general) field of art. Don't be offended by my lousy drawings, pls

And Another WIP: I kind of struggled a lot with the head. Still not sure about literally anything. He seems a bit bland and his selling point is not too clearly to identify...
