    Unhappy 3/4th Industrial design perspective

I have been following some tutorials by Feng Zhu and he draws in an industrial design fashion that relies heavily on perspective.the artist sees and learns to draw whatever they see from all directions in a 3d state thus learning to draw from memory easier.

Drawing from memory and off the top of my head has always been an issue of mine but when i followed a tutorial along with him via video I found the method more helpful in understanding forms and objects.

I can't get a hold of Feng Zhu to ask him of any books that may help me learn. And the one book I have explains it in a way I find hard to grasp with the use of elipses and dotum lines. as per attachment. The style i wish to learn is in the other attachment by Feng In 3/4th view.

I figured I'd ask her as someone should have experience with this.. I hope.I can't afford to go to a school that will teach me this ..like feng's school. so I hoped for at least a book.

    You mean isometric projection?

That's not real perspective, by the way. Isometric projection, I mean.

The following books are those that my Viscomm teacher at CCS recommends:

Basic Perspective Drawing: A Visual Guide, John Montague
Drawing for Product Designers by Kevin Henry
Rapid Viz: A New Method for the Rapid Visualitzation of Ideas by Kurt Hanks and Larry Belliston
Sketching: The Basics by Koos Eissen and Roselien Steur

Scott Roberston will also be coming out with a series of books later this year titled: How to Draw, How to Render, How to Design. He was Feng's teacher at Art Center so I imagine they will cover a lot of those same methods.

I was always curious about how that drawings was done -so hopefully I can use this thread to ask. Does he copy photoreference in perspective or does he take the photo and then draw from another angels? And does he use precise vanishing points (and traces) for every piece of the model or he has only two vanishing points and guesses the others?

This drawing method allows you to be able to take your reference and shift the angles of the perspective if you want. I suspect that since he is experienced enough he no longer has to measure his vanishing points as much.

thanks for the response. i'll look into the suggested books.Feng Zhu studied industrial design.I know there has to be tons of artists that know how to draw in the same fashion but its seemingly harder to come by.He has a website. http://www.artbyfeng.com/tutorials.htm
but he never explains how he learned to draw just about any object he see in this 3/4th view, and accurately.I was afraid that the only way for me to learn was to go to a school like his. Hopefully information is available somewhere.

If you look at the work of his students.they all draw the same way.

As I know Scott Roberts was his mentor/teacher so perhaps you can start with his videos and here is his youtube channel

Awesome! I think Scott Robertson is probably a great lead into this style. I didn't know he was his instructor. Thanks again

Sorry for multiple responses but I couldn't see any in about five minutes - strange board software behavior
