    Joerden Leigh's Sketchbook

Hi guys Hope This will be a beautiful journey!

Starting with my most recent projects from my past few weeks of online classes at the "Rydan-Workshop" taught by Luke Church and his assistant Ryan

week1- we did studies of different lighting scenarios, low, mid and hi key.

week2- I designed a wine bearer for the king, Inspired by the game of thrones hunting trip I thought about how a servant bearing wine for a brutal king or tyrant would have to be silver tongued and have wine on him at the ready OR it would be off with his head!.

    - I also thought about how if he is at the kings side while he's drunk or in meetings with important political figures that the wine bearer would become quite the messenger or dignitary for the king. Which lead me to the idea that he travels quite a bit . Which posed challenges with carrying the wine. I knew I wanted a belt and back pack of wine, but I had to make sure it was functional ie reachable and would beable to be set down wihtout breaking the bottles Over all super fun idea I'd bin wanting to try for some time!

PS, apologies for the largest freakin images ever XD I am getting accustomed to CAs prefrences hehe.

Trying to use the cutout filter with pictures of old farming equipment to get some interesting ideas. I'd like to get to do more of this . Only had a few minutes to tinker around.

Have bin a tad lazy this past week but none the less bin trying to get Ten Towns from The Ice Wind Dale books out of my head. used two photos from two friends and tried to merge them. overall a MUCH faster method of generating an idea for a full painting. Id like to get it down to a stream line rather than draw in every detail as normal line art takes for ever. The values in this one are all over the place and will take some time to tweak out but I wont dwell on it for long. It's just too flat right now. If u guys got any crits I'm always eager for feedback

Wow, this thread is going to be a killer. I've got a question, how many thumbs from #3 are you going to use in actual painting? Did you make all of those just to choose one, or there's some more complex set of paintings behind them?

Hey there ya! I usually just do sessions like that for 15-30 min and generate a whole bunch there were a few in there I'd like to go back and touch on. My fav from #3 though was the second one from the bottom right end of the thumbs.

Bin finding a better ergonomic solutions and learning Im going to blow my wrist out if I don't take breaks etc. These started out really slow but sped up quite quickly. About 20-40 min in total I believe for both, a little longer on the robin hood one.

    A tattoo to long.

So about a year ago a co-worker came to me about getting a tattoo. I had trouble at first discerning what they actually wanted for the tattoo but eventually it worked out.

The task was to create a tattoo using the letters " THLK" originally Y as well, but later we decided against it, to create a symbolic tattoo representing strength love and family.

I began trying to overlap the letters to create a symbol of sorts and possibly something of oriental visual style. I tried thinking in circular patterns as was the natural tendency.

After one meeting we found that the we wanted a tree design , which led me to the quite literal final result using the leo symbol as a foundation and drawing a tree representing family on top with the letters entwined.

I learned a lot about baby steps in freelance and some things to look for within that. Tried my best to keep the lines clean in the final for hand off to some one doing the actual ink as I have no knowledge of that process. I also stayed in frequent contact. My only regret is that it took so long to deliver.

Back from a bit of a break but nonetheless determined ! sketched some heads while playing league during load times and threw them in photoshop to paint tonight this was about 30min . Needto be faster for this amount of variation but could take them diff directions or extremes ie "push it " more in the directions I have.
