try copying it to a new file and changing the things you dont like. dont be afraid to be messy and use a very big brush; its just experiments! dont like the composition? grab big bits of it with lasoo and move and distort them around. dont like the colours? get some reference and or paint over them. as quick as you can.

alright man, it seems like you pretty much know what needs to be donei`ll work some more on this and upload the result afterwards. thank you!
well, it might not work, but i guarantee youll learn some new things.
one other thing is, think of a mood for the image and push that. if you pick spooky, make it night time, with the trees and house really tall and scary looking, if you pick happy, make everything all round and bright coloured, you see what im saying? dont be afraid to look through really good work, say concept art for Shrek or something, for ideas on how to use colour and form to achieve your mood.

in that case maybe check out the french impresionists then, Cezanne for example perhaps, lots to see there!

i think the composition is better this way, i tried to make the image a little shorter in height and it actually became better, so i think i have discovered that i might build objects a little to high.
Hello...
May be it was not your intentio, but the style of your building remember me when I was working at Korea. In that country and China, the walls are red and white, the windows are white and wooden-made (similar to what you did), the tiles of the roof are black. Japanese style is almost the same, but the walls are black an white.
May be that just changing the colour help you also.
Best regards
ok so this is the final piece, it was good fun and i learned a little. got better at trees, but i think i have to do some landscape studies now to improve the overal feeling
good work! yep landscape studies are super useful, youd be amazed. its like learning to play a song or something, you can do it.

I find that balance is too even from the left and right side . What I mean by that is make the building smaller or larger or the trees bigger or smaller ,the focus is lost you need to generate an interest
I agree with RangerX, if you greyscale it and zoom out it looks very symmetrical which can make it slightly confusing, should i look at the trees or the house? I kinda assume its the house, but that only takes up about a third of the painting. Maybe play with the lighting a bit more so have the tree cast a shadow on the most left part of the house but then a slit or beam of light comiing through the rocks to hit the doorway. Plus id consider dropping a perspective grid on it, cause it doesnt feel like they all converge to the horizon. The trees on the right blends in a bit with the rocks, maybe paint the rocks in a slightly lighter value to knock it back a bit?
